More news →"Has Amisha made a record with Khanna 'Khandaan'"?
Has Amisha Patel just made a record and now qualifies to be mentioned in the desi/videsi record books? Believe it or not but the release of 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.' would mean that Amisha Patel would have worked with the entire Khanna 'khanadaan' led by Vinod Khanna! This is because in the film she is paired opposite two film old Karan Khanna who has worked in 'Bachke Rehna Re Baba' and 'Yun Hota To Kya Hota' earlier. For starters, Karan Khanna is Vinod Khanna's nephew and cousin of Akshaye Khanna and Rahul Khanna. What is interesting is that she has also worked with Vinod, Akshaye and Rahul Khanna in the years gone by. While she was paired opposite Bobby Deol in 'Kranti', the film also starred Senior Khanna. When it comes to the young ones, she was seen with Akshaye Khanna in 'Humraaz' while 'Elaan' had Rahul paired opposite her. Can we now revisit the record books please?
Vikram Bhatt pairs with regular Praveen Bhatt for 'Red'
Director Vikram Bhatt and cinematographer Praveen Bhatt are almost Siamese twins when it comes to their projects. After all the two have been working together for years now! A Mahesh Bhatt protegee who has earlier worked in his films like 'Janam', 'Naam', 'Kaash', 'Aashique', 'Saathi', 'Sadak', 'Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi' and around half a dozen more flicks, Praveen Bhatt has formed a fruitful partnership with Vikram Bhatt as well over the years. And now Vikram Bhatt and Praveen Bhatt have united together again for 'Red' that stars Aftab Shivdasani, Celina Jaitley, Amrita Rao and Sushant Singh in principal roles. This ace cinematographer's touch is quite evident in each of the frames, especially due to the now-famous night-blue lighting that Bhatts have been famous for. Praveen Bhatt has earlier handled the cinematography for Vikram Bhatt films like 'Raaz', 'Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage', 'Awara Paagal Deewana', 'Footpath', 'Inteha', 'Aitbaar', 'Elaan', 'Jurm' and 'Ankahee'.
Arjun Rampal, a superstar?
Arjun Rampal is a fine actor who hasn't got his due. Having started off with 'Pyaar Iishq Aur Mohabbat' this hot body went on to do several films that laid eggs at the box office. 'Moksha', 'Dil Ka Rishta', 'Dil Hai Tumhara', 'Elaan', 'Vaada', 'Tehzeeb', 'Yakeen' etc etc. The only films that did decent business have been 'Aankhen' (But then it also had Big B, Akshay Kumar, Suhmita Sen and Paresh Rawal too) and 'Ajnabee' (Big B once again). If you include bit parts in 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' and somewhat biggie in 'Don' then yes Arjun Rampal has been a part of successful films. But yes, the fact remains he hasn't had a solo hit. And he has been around for almost a decade now. The question remains then what makes Arjun feel-n-behave like a superstar? He doesn't keep his promises as far as interviews are concerned. Moreover except for Karan Johar, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and the likes, rest of the world doesn't merit respect in Rampal's books. He has been selectively promoting his first home production 'I See You' by giving bytes to a few elite news channels. Rest of the mere mortals have to stand in a long queue before King Rampal obliges. Wife Meher Jessia answers his calls and informs that the 'super cool hot dude' (whatever that means) is busy in a meeting. And she too fails to honour her commitement of a curt: 'call after an hour'. The phone is conveniently switched off there after. SMSs are never answered (even the biggest of stars promptly reply to an SMS when they're busy). What one makes from Arjun Rampal's production plans, is that either he is super confident that 'I See You' will work anyway. Or he is sure it's not gonna work'So why tom tom about it anyway. The film's stills are dominated by debutante Vipasha Agarwal and to be fair to Arjun, he is looking a hunky dude as well. But the vibes from the promos of the film are absolutely thanda. Let's see if the film has a few surprises in store. The final verdict is that Arjun Rampal is a talented actor who needs a crash course in harnessing his PR skills. It's good to be nice sometimes. After all a warm smile and a confident handshake is always more precious than a smirk sitting in an ivory tower.
Guru - Finally a worthy comeback for Mithun Chakraborty
In the month of January, it will be 2 years since Mithun Chakraborty made his comeback with 'Elaan'. Not to mention that it turned out to be pretty damp squib in the end. The film flopped and though he had a decent hit in the form of 'Lucky-No Time For Love', his was the poorest etched role in the Salman Khan-Sneha Ullal starrer. Playing the role of a 'guru' in both 'Classic-Dance Of Love' and 'Chingaari' didn't help either as the films were commercial disasters though he did come for some critical appreciation in the latter. Acting in small time films like 'Sun Zarra' and 'Kachchi Sadak' were just not worthy enough and though there were sparks of vintage Mithunda in Aditya Dutt's 'Dil Diya Hai' a few months back, it was still not good enough. Now all eyes are set in Mani Ratnam's 'Guru' which releases on January 12th (exactly 2 years after 'Elaan' which came on January 14th 2005). The film appears to be the first ever which would be truly utilizing Mithun's potential as he plays the role of Manikdas Guptha a.k.a Nanaji. Nananji is shown to be a veteran who runs a newspaper called Swathantra and is highly impressed with the kind of fire that he could feel within the character played by Abhishek Bachchan i.e. Guru. In spite of knowing Guru as a young lad whose walk towards his destination seemed too fast, he attributed it to his young blood. But later when he was made aware about Guru's so-called evil ways, he wanted to fight and destroy him. A showoff that indeed sounds highly promising, one keenly anticipates the release of the film.
Dil Diya Hai - yet another comeback for Mithun?
Would 'Dil Diya Hai' finally turn out to be a comeback flick for Mithun Chakravorty? Ever since Mithun announced his arrival to mainstream Bollywood projects with Vikram Bhatt's 'Elaan', there have been number of movies that have come and gone but either his act hasn't been appreciated much or the film has been a commercial disaster. While 'Elaan' turned out to be a box office disappointment, his next 'Classic - Dance Of Love' was completely ignored. His role in 'Lucky - No Time For Love' was poorly written though the film was a success whereas he was hailed in 'Chingaari' but the film had a quick death at the theatres. 'Sun Zarra' was his next release but except for the people associated with the film, no one was even aware about the film's existence. Now he would be seen soon in 'Dil Diya Hai' that is directed by Aaditya Dutt who made 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' a year back. One hopes that this comeback proves to be fruitful for Mithun as he joins hands with youngsters Emraan Hashmi, Ashmit Patel and debutant Geeta Basra. His next big release would be Mani Ratnam's 'Guru'.
Amisha Patel - A lucky mascot?
Amisha Patel who has given biggest hits in the industry with 'Gadar', 'Kaho Na Pyar Hai' and 'Humraaz' will be seen in a deglamorised mode in her forthcoming films 'Ankhaee' & 'Tatasthu'. No wonder Amisha seems pretty excited about these two films which promise to mark her turnaround from bad choices like Teesari Ankh and Elaan that she had made earlier on. Amisha is also looking forward to Farhan Akthar's 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.' & Ratan Jain's 'Aap Ki Khatir.' According to insiders, both the producers are already raving about Amisha's performance in the films & are planning to repeat her in their next productions respectively. Not surprising, because earlier she was considered a 'Lucky Mascot' & the tag seems to be coming back to her after some good films she has signed on lately. Will she manage to create history all over again?
