Actress Eshanya insists that forthcoming Tamil horror-comedy "Peigal Jaakirathai" has something different to offer compared to other films in the same genre that have released in the last few years. "My last release was Telugu horror-comedy 'Raju Gari Gadhi', and I can certainly say it's very different from this film. Although they belong to the same genres, their presentation and stories are different. 'Peigal...' is not a regular horror-comedy," Eshanya, who plays the lead in the film, told. "Here's a story that has given the usual horror film a different spin," she said. In the film, which will release on Friday, she plays a college girl. The film's story revolves around events that take place after she meets a man. The film also stars Jeevarathanam, Thambi Ramaiah and Rajendran in important roles. Talking about her experience, she said: "It was so much fun acting alongside Jeeva and Thambi Ramaiah sir. They were patient and helpful at all times." This will be Eshanya's second horror film release in a row and she says she's game to do more films in the same genre. "I really enjoyed working in both these films. In fact, I started shooting for 'Peigal...' soon after I wrapped up 'Raju Gari Gadhi'. I really didn't feel any hangover of the genre. As long as the films are different in some ways, I don't mind doing another horror film right away," she said. The actress has signed another Tamil film for which she will start shooting from February 2016 in Paris. She also has a Hindi project in her kitty, while discussions are going on for her next Telugu outing.
Hrithik hails nod for passive euthanasia
Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict in favour of conditional passive euthanasia for terminally-ill patients, Bollywood hunk Hrithik Roshan, who played paraplegic in director Sanjay Leela Bansali’s “Guzaarish”, says he can realize the pain of a patient who loses all mobility. Hrithik says it’s a good beginning and with time it would become easier for the society to accept it. “Any act that ends consistent suffering in any form must be condoned. Euthanasia must be allowed in cases that merit it. But a system needs to be set in place to process the information and make a decision,” he said. “This is a good beginning, in time as we evolve as a society, it will become easier to see reason in the concept of euthanasia as a boon for those who are suffering to a degree, which you and me cannot even imagine,” Hrithik said in a statement. The Supreme Court gave a sanction to passive euthanasia if the high court concerned approves it. The process involves withdrawal of life sustaining drugs and/or life support systems for patients who are brain dead or in a persistent vegetative state (PVS), after their relatives and doctors convey their approval to high court.
Amnesty International accuses ISIS of 'ethnic cleansing' in Iraq
An international rights group accused the extremist Islamic State group on Tuesday of carrying out a systematic campaign of "ethnic cleansing" in northern Iraq that includes mass killings, abductions and other war crimes. In a new report, Amnesty International said militants have abducted "hundreds, if not thousands" of women and children who belong to the ancient Yazidi faith. The extremists also have rounded up Yazidi men and boys before killing them, the London-based group said. The 26-page report adds to a growing body of evidence outlining the scope and extent of the Islamic State group's crimes since it began its sweep from Syria across neighboring Iraq in June. The militants have since seized much of northern and western Iraq, and have stretched as far as the outskirts of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. On Monday, the United Nations' top human rights body approved a request by Iraq to open an investigation into alleged crimes committed by the Islamic State group against civilians. Its aim is to provide the Human Rights Council with a report and evidence that could shed further light on Iraqi atrocities and be used as part of any international war crimes prosecution. In its report, Amnesty detailed how Islamic State group fighters expelled Christians, Shiites, Yazidis and others from their homes. It documented several cases where the militants rounded up Yazidi men and boys and killed them in groups after overrunning their ancestral lands in Iraq's far north. The report also said the group had abducted of hundreds of Yazidi women and children, most of whom were still missing. The report corresponded with reporting of those events by The Associated Press. "The massacres and abductions being carried out by the Islamic State provide harrowing new evidence that a wave of ethnic cleansing against minorities is sweeping across northern Iraq," said Amnesty investigator Donatella Rovera. Two of the deadliest killings occurred in early August after the Islamic State fighters overran the Sinjar mountains area. It was also unclear how many men and boys were killed. The Amnesty report said in two mass killings, "hundreds" of men were likely shot to death. Yazidi lawmaker, Mahma Khalil, called on the Iraqi government and international community to urgently help the Yazidis who are still facing "continuing atrocities" by the extremist militants. "They have been trying hard to force us to abandon our religion. We reject that because we are the oldest faith in Iraq, that has roots in Mesopotamia," Khalil said.
