Believe it or not but Madhur Bhandarkar is not the first person to have made FASHION. That's because in Bollywood itself, a film by the same title has already been made and that too close to 50 years back. The film had starred Pradeep Kumar, Manoj Kumar and Mala Sinha in the lead and was released in 1957. However, are there any similarities between the Pradeep Kumar starrer and the 2008 flick which stars Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse in the lead? "You must be kidding me", says a source attached to the film, "How can you really expect anything at all to be similar between the two films? Nothing in the plotline of the two films converge. Also, we are talking about a film which tells the tale of the underbelly of today's fashion world." 1957 release FASHION was directed by Lekhraj Bhakri who had also made films like RAJPUT, NAQAB, HONEYMOON and BANARASI THUG. "Yes, we are aware about that", continues to source, "However, FASHION which was made 50 years back was set in a social genre and dealt with a different subject altogether. Except for the title, there is nothing common to be talked about here." The Madhur Bhandarkar film takes the expose route and also stars Arbaaz Khan and Arjan Bajwa along with Sameer Soni. A co-production of UTV Motion Pictures and Bhandarkar Entertainment, FASHION is all set to arrive on 29th October. Though the film was earlier supposed to arrive in the month of November, the release of FASHION has been pre-poned. It is widely believed that the reason for this was to avoid clash with DOSTANA which releases in the month of November and also stars Priyanka Chopra.

Fashion Guru Gaultier encounter with Saif, Akshaye, Bips and Kats
Tips Films venture RACE has been making headlines nonstop. This Abbas Mustan directed film is hot property already in the trade circles. Even though it's scheduled for a December/ January release, RACE is already a much discussed and eagerly anticipated project. The buzz has grown bigger ever since international designer and fashion guru Jean Paul Gaultier actually dropped in on the sets for a peek a boo. Rumour has it that socialite Aarti Surendranath (of Kailash Picture Company) brought him to the sets of Abbas-Mustan's RACE at Yash Raj Studios, where the cast including Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif was shooting a video for the title song. Says a source,, "Jean-Paul was in Mumbai for a week and was fascinated by Bollywood. When he heard that Race was being shot, he insisted on meeting with the stars. Aarti Surendranath brought him to the sets and he spent a good two hours chatting with the cast. Later, Jean-Paul was so keen to watch the item number being shot, that he told the directors not to call for a break." The actresses also added their own value. Adds the source, "Bipasha and Katrina took Gaultier on a guided tour of the studio. He seemed fascinated by their styling courtesy Vogue's new fashion director, Anahita Shroff. He felt the three girls looked like international models." Producer Ramesh Taurani the head honcho of Tips is obviously delighted with this development. Says he, "Jean-Paul was very excited. He stood for two hours seeing the song being shot and even danced like a little child when the music was on. It was a great privilege to show an esteemed person like him around my set. Jean-Paul was fascinated about everything happening around him." About Jean-Paul Gaultier: Jean-Paul Gaultier has long been known as the enfant terrible of French fashion. In the 1990s, he catapulted to extraordinary frame for having designed a set of conical brass for Madonna during her Blond Ambition tour. Gaultier has also designed the wardrobe for many motion pictures, including Luc Besson's avant grade film The Fifth Element, Pedro Almodovar's Kika and Pierre Jeunet's La Cite des Enfants Perdus (The City Of Lost Children). Currently, he designs for three collections: his own couture and ready-to-wear lines, as well as the newly re-launched clothing line for French luxury fashion house, Hermes.
'Fashion' along with 'Kismat Konnection'
It is the three time national winning Bollywood director's most expensive film till now. And he was very fierce in protecting the film at any cost from the hungry eyes of the media. It was also reported that Madhur Bhandarkar did not allow any still cameras in the sets during the production of the film 'Fashion'. The producers of this movie can be happy that the film is sure to get a very good opening as its director winning the national award recently is sure to make more people come to see the film. All the film buffs eager to see the film 'Kismat Konnection' will also get to see the trailer of 'Fashion'. The duration of the trailer is just one minute and has no dialogues. The film is produced by UTV Motion pictures and Bhandarkar Entertainment and is said to dwell into the underside of the Fashion Industry. The film is also going to be special for the ladies as the fast rising heroine Priyanka Chopra is the protagonist of the film. She is enacting a role of a girl who works hard and finally becomes a top model. The film's budget is said to be around 20 crores and some scenes showing the fashion world of the Paris are also there in the film. Madhur Bhandarkar is a film maker who is famous for his realistic portrayals of contemporary topics and issues in a very interesting and gripping manner. Fashion will show some realities and will present the often hidden and unknown facts of the fashion industry. The film will most probably hit the theatres in November and the impact of the movie on the audience will be interesting to watch and drastic changes in strong convictions and opinions of certain people can also be expected to happen.
Fashion gets 'A' Certificate
Director Madhur Bhandarkar seems to be quite upset over Central Board of Film Certification for having indorsed his forthcoming film Fashion with 'A' certificate. Speaking on this, Madhur said that he was sure the film wouldn't fetch 'U' certificate for its very title and theme, but he expected that members of CBFC would certify it atleast with 'U/A'. Well, the promos itself revealed that Fashion is one of the most glamorous flick in his entire career of directorial venture. Madhur Bhandarkar co-producing the film in collaboration with UTV has Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Arjan Bajwa and Mugdha Godse in lead roles. Board Members soon after watching the film raised their objection of cutting out 6 scenes that goes inclusive of love making scenes of intimacy between Arjan and Priyanka. Indeed, they objected Priyanka and Kangana Ranaut hauled into drugs and wanted to delete them. As Bhandarkar refused to do so, the members had no option other than certifying it as 'A'. Since it would take a very long time, if the film is moved forward to revising committee, Madhur Bhandarkar didn't go for it. The film centered on the world of Fashion will hit the screens on October 29.
'Fashion' has charged up Priyanka
It can be said without the slightest doubt that Priyanka Chopra's portrayal of Megna Mathur was one of the best performances of the B-Town babe till date. The movie's success also has come at a time when the dusky beauty needed a hit to sustain her place as one of the top heroines. Even though the promo videos of 'Dostana' have started to create high expectations in the film lovers minds, the good response shown by the viewers towards 'Fashion' might surely have put off the fire of loss that must have been burning inside the leading actress after the big time debacle of 'God Tussi Great Ho' and 'Drona' to a great extent. Criticisms have been coming in for director Madhur Bhandarkar for the way in which he presented some aspects of the life in the fashion world. But if there is one thing that everyone agrees in one voice, it is the acting range presented by Priyanka and Kangana Ranuat. And guess who has some sweet words for Priyanka Chopra. It is the veteran Hollywood actress Goldie Hawn who has given thumbs up for the desi girl. Goldie had come to Mumbai as a guest of Parmeshwar Godrej and she was also invited for a special screening of 'Fashion'. Although the American actress could not understand Hindi, she loved the movie immensely and said that Priyanka was extremely convincing in the role and could play innocent, bitchy and vulnerable roles with ease.
