Hardest thing in 'Fitoor' was to pretend Tabu is my mother: Katrina
Actress Katrina Kaif, who will be seen playing Tabu's daughter in the film "Fitoor", says the hardest thing for her in the film to pretend that Tabu is her mother. "The hardest thing in this film was pretending that Tabu is my mother; she does not look like my mother from any angle, she is like a friend. I enjoyed the days we spent together in the film," she said in response to a query about the experience of working with Tabu in "Fitoor". "She is one of the warmest people and who is so down to earth. She is a phenomenal actress so, whenever you are in front of her, you should remember you should not get lost in her performance but, to contribute to it. We have been fortunate she was gracious enough to step in," added Katrina. Tabu stepped into Rekha's shoes after she decided to make an exit from the film, which is an adaptation of Charles Dickens classic novel "Great Expectations". About her role in the film, Katrina said: "For me the most important thing was to try and understand this girl's (her character) mind... she has always been a complicated character is she manipulative, is she like that? .. for whatever reasons ...we spent a lot of time discussing trying to give a life our interpretation to this character." Also starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Aditi Rao Hydari, Lara Dutta and Rahul Bhatt, "Fitoor" will hit the theaters on February 12.
Katrina says 'Fitoor' new despite having read 'Great Expectations'
Actress Katrina Kaif considers her upcoming drama "Fitoor" a fresh film despite having read the Charles Dickens' novel "Great Expectations" on which it is based. "I've read the book and I've seen the films that have been made on it. So when I got the script from Abhishek, I really just judged it on as an entirely new movie because most of the people who'll see the film will probably not have read the book," said Katrina, who was present with her co-star Aditya Roy Kapur and director Abhishek Kapoor to promote the film at a radio station. "Honestly, I found it to be one of the most romantic stories I've ever heard and ever read. For me that was instantly where I wanted to be a part of it because I think everybody loves romance and passion. And this film just depicted it in a beautiful, classic way," she added. "Great Expectations", first published in 1861, has been adapted into various films, plays and television shows and even novels. After adapting Chetan Bhagat's "Three Mistakes Of My Life" for "Kai Po Che", Kapoor has taken up a novel again. "I had read the book several years earlier, during my childhood in school. The heart and soul of the book is very basic... in any country or place, people are able to relate to this story because it is about love and about heartbreak. "I thought this story will be amazing for our Indian audiences, who will like the story... When the story is made for our people, we need to adapt it slightly so that it can create the right impact on them," he added. However, lead actor Aditya, who plays a character inspired from the character Pip, hasn't read the book. "Gattu (Abhishek) had adapted the book into a script. And If I was going to read the book and those elements are not going to be there in the script, then it would not make any sense because I'd be looking for things that don't exist. "I have to just take whatever is there in the script and develop my character based on that. So I didn't want to cloud my judgment by reading the book, then reading the script, because I would get confused," he said. "Fitoor" also stars Tabu in a pivotal role.

The casting team took various auditions in Mumbai as well as Delhi but when they came across this boy in Kashmir, they felt he was the perfect fit for the role, read a statement. The boy, Mohammed Abrar, bears stark resemblance to Aditya in his traits, and seemed to be a perfect fit for the role. The spokesperson of the film confirmed the news and added: "Lots of auditions were done before Mohammed Abrar was finalised to play the role of younger Aditya. The team was very happy with this casting as he fits the role very well." Abrar was given proper training before they started shoot with him. He suited the role completely and he even bonded very well on the sets with Aditya. Apart from him, there are a few other people from the support cast as well whose casting was done in Kashmir. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, "Fitoor" brings Aditya and Katrina Kaif together for the first time on the silver screen. The film is said to be an adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel "Great Expectations". It hit a roadblock due to budget issues, but is back on track. It is slated to release early next year.
