Akshay game for action-comedy

Akshay Kumar a.k.a. Akki is all set to entertain the audience once again. If the buzz going around Bollywood is to be believed then Nikhil Advani will soon direct Akshay in his forth coming action-comedy venture 'Chandni Chowk To China'. Akshay was the master blaster last year giving four hits in a row like 'Namastey London', 'Heyy Babyy', 'Welcome' and 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa'. With the right person to bank on, the director seems to be real happy to direct Akshay. It is said that Deepika Padukone will share screen space with Akshay in this flick. 'Chandni Chowk To China' is produced by Warner Bros. and Rohan Sippy. This film will cast Akshay as the man with a rugged look and has a lot of action bytes to look forward to. It is reported that the film started rolling on February 22 and was shot from various locales throughout China also including Shanghai. The film will involve quite a lot of martial arts sequences. The script for this film has been jointly penned by Rohan Sippy and Shridar Raghavan. The director of the film is reported to have revealed that for this film he is just banking on the prowess of Akshay and his friend for twenty years, Rohan Sippy. The director has also reportedly revealed that this film will look more like the 'Dhoom' series. After the not-so-good reviews for his last film Salaam-E-Ishq the director is all set to bounce back with a box office hit this year with 'Chandni Chowk To China'. We wish the entire team all the very best and look forward to some hardcore action from the action-hero Akshay Kumar.

Name games and Vijay rules

Vijay's next venture 'Vil' has kicked off in Palani and the actor is very keen to get things in order right from the outset. Both Vijay and Prabhu Deva, the director of the film, are very keen to cast Vadivelu in a meaty role. It can be recalled that Vadivelu came up with rib tickling stuff in 'Pokiri' that was appreciated by the masses. Initially the project was named 'Singam', but then director Hari had copyrighted the name for the movie he's planning to make with Suriya. So the Vijay-Prabhu Deva duo decided on 'Vil'. It was only after that they came to know director S. J. Suryah had the same title for a Telugu film he was making with Pawan Kalyan. Vijay reportedly convinced S. J. Suryah and had him change the title of the Telugu film title. S. J. Suryah has now decided on the name 'Puli' for his film. With the name game settled now, the unit is concentrating hard to get the movie in a slick format. Grapevine has it that 'Vil' is the remake of a Hindi film by name 'Soldier'. Asin plays Vijay's leading lady once again. The movie has cinematography by Ravi Varma, music by Devi Sri Prasad and stunts by Fefsi Vijayan.

Video games enter realm of art in Smithsonian exhibition

They've come a long way since the man who would be Mario set off to rescue Pauline from Donkey Kong and Pac-Man gobbled up as many dots as he could before the ghosts caught up with him. But really, are video games art? Absolutely, contends a major exhibition that opened Friday at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington that celebrates gaming's rich creative side and the people behind a medium that's still in full bloom. "The Art of Video Games" spans the 40 years since video games moved from amusement arcades into homes around the world, evolving in leaps and bounds with ever-more-sophisticated graphics, interactivity and story-telling. "While this exhibition is not the first exhibition that actually uses video games, it is the first I believe that actually looks at video games themselves as an art form," curator Chris Melissinos told. "This is not about the art within video games," said Melissinos, an avid gamer since he was a 10-year-old in his native New York borough of Queens. "This is about video games themselves as an artistic medium." The exhibition comes nine months after the US Supreme Court said the First Amendment covered video games, in a landmark ruling that put them on a part with books and other forms of artistic expression. Bathed in red and blue lighting, and appropriately next to a Nam June Paik video installation, "The Art of Video Games" spotlights 80 hit games created for 20 different gaming systems, from the Atari VCS of the 1970s to today's PlayStation 3, that Melissinos calls "the touchstones of their generation." Five games -- "Pac-Man," "Super Mario Brothers," "The Secret of Monkey Island," "Myst" and "Flower" -- are booted up with their original joysticks and motion controllers for visitors to play on wall-sized screens. Long-obsolete consoles like the ColecoVision that powered "Donkey Kong" and the Commodore 64 that made "Attack of the Mutant Camels" possible are encased in Plexiglass display boxes like pharaonic Egyptian artifacts.

Sameer Dharmadhikari - Journey from 'Game' of politics to the battleground

What a strange journey it has been for Sameer Dharmadhikari. A popular model, he made his debut 7 years back with Prakash Jha directed 'Dil Kya Kare'. With a starcast of Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Chandrachur Singh and Mahima Chaudhary, he was hardly noticed in the flick. He had his first major Bollywood outing with none other than Madhur Bhandarkar in 'Satta'. With a meaty role to boost and critical acclaim to cherish, he seemed to have made his presence felt as an accomplished actor who would be seen in many more interesting films. Not many are aware but in between 'Dil Kya Kare' and 'Satta', he was also seen in a small part in Hollywood production 'Quicksand' which was directed by Sam Firstenberg. But from hereon, it was all downhill for the actor. His next release 'Agnipankh' sunk without a trace while his only notable project after 'Satta, 'Raincoat', didn't really have much for him to do. After that he had inconsequential projects like Nigehbaan - The Third Eye, Rafta Rafta - The Speed, Husn - Love And Betrayal, Madhubaala, Katputhli and Manoranjan, none of which really helped him gain a solid ground at the box office. Now come his next film 'Game' [in fact the only film of his that is due for release in coming months] where he shares screen with Mona a.k.a. Menaka a.k.a. Sherlyn Chopra. A thriller with Prashant Narayanan, Mukesh Tiwari, Anil Nagrath and Govind Namdeo forming the rest of the starcast and Shivram Yadav [director of Madhubala] at the helm of direction, it again hardly seems hardly a product that would be able to do justice to Sameer's stint with Bollywood. Will he get another good opportunity soon?
