'Yeh Ishq Sarfira' not inspired by Najafgarh gang war: Director
Director Varun Khanna has clarified that his upcoming revenge drama "Yeh Ishq Sarfira" is not based on the brutal Najafgarh gang war going on since many years. "Since the time I have shared the plot of my film with some of my close friends, several of them found resemblance with the Najafgarh gang war. When we were shooting and when I showed some of the film's scenes, many had similar opinion. But I want to clear it once and for all that 'Yeh Ishq Sarfira' is not based on the particular case," Khanna told. "There could be certain resemblances but that is purely coincidental. I wouldn't deny this fact that my script is inspired from several real-life incidents not just from north of India but other places of the country as well. There have been other incidents like the Najafgarh gang war, so it's strange that all think we've adapted that case into our film," he added. The particular case in question involves two villages of southeast Delhi area Najafgarh - Dichaon Kalan and Mitraon, where a former MLA was killed in March this year. The murder was considered a fallout of the conflict between the gangs of respective villages going on since decades regarding land-grabbing and real estate business. The film stars Akhilesh Verma, Oviya Helen, Naina Aswal and Mukesh Tiwari. The film traces the metamorphosis of a lover into a gangster to take revenge for the murder of his girlfriend. "My only focus was to make an out-and-out entertaining film set against the backdrop of a justifiable revenge story. And I'm extremely confident that I've made something that the masses would love. We don't want any controversies to our film by unnecessarily tagging along the name of that gang war," Khanna said. "Yeh Ishq Sarfira" is produced by Sushila D.R. Tokas and Kavita Ashraf Ali under the banner Rahul Productions and A. K. Films. Mates Entertainment is releasing the film across India on November 20.
