More news →Rohit Shetty strikes hat-trick with ‘Golmaal 3′ this Diwali
Director Rohit Shetty’s third instalment in the “Golmaal” franchise came out with triple aces this Diwali with over 90 percent occupancy in its initial weekend. It has beaten Vipul Shah’s “Action Replayy”. “‘Golmaal 3′ has done extremely well while ‘Action Replayy’ had a poor start and was only average over the weekend,” trade analyst Amod Mehra said on phone from Mumbai. Both movies opened on Diwali, Friday. While advance bookings for “Golmaal 3″ were too strong till Sunday, Akshay Kumar-Aishwarya Rai starrer period comedy “Action Replayy” picked up gradually after a dull start on the first day. The trade reports say “Golmaal 3″ raked in around Rs.32 crore in the first three days, while “Action Replayy” earned only half of it – Rs.16.75 crore during the same period. Most of the multiplexes are not so excited with the content of the movies, but at the same time they are happy with the business from “Golmaal 3″. ” ‘Golmaal 3′ has been appreciated a lot and the occupancy over the weekend was over 90 percent. While audiences are not really taking well to Akshay and Aishwarya’s period stint in ‘Action Replayy’. It has had an initial occupancy of only 60-70 percent,” Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (Cinemas) of Wave Cinemas told IANS. “We’ve had 10-12 shows per property on an average for both the movies and considering that no big releases are coming out next Friday, ‘Golmaal 3′ should have an extended run. It does have a shelf life,” he added. Jayendra Banerji, vice president (Operations) of Satyam Cineplexes, said: “The weekend was good as both the movies did good business and had an occupancy between 90-100 percent. ‘Golmaal 3′ was slightly better with 80 percent occupancy and good reviews from audiences while ‘Action Replayy’ had around 65-70 percent footfall.” With an unprecedented buzz before their release, “Golmaal 3″ cashed in on the rapport of its previous two outings. While Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor reprised their roles in part three, Kunal Khemu and Mithun Chakraborty came as new additions to the cast. “Action Replayy”, on the other hand, saw Akshay and Aishwarya together as a couple for the first time, but failed to create a spark considering the initial audience reaction. Srikant, a college student who went to watch the movie with his friends, says he had a rollicking time. “We just loved the movie. It is a ‘paisa vasool, time pass’ laugh riot,” he told IANS. PVR Cinemas ran around eight to nine shows of both the movies on an average per property across Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR). A source from the multiplex chain said that “Golmaal 3″ did a good business, but the content is disappointing. “The weekend was terrific. ‘Golmaal 3′ and ‘Action Replayy’ both did well. But the content of both the movies has not been appreciated that much. It was only due to the pre-release hype that these got a good footfall,” said the source. Kanika Jain, an ardent movie fan, too complained about the content saying. “There is no content in ‘Golmaal 3′. It was pathetic. I walked out half way.”
Golmaal Should Take a Good Opening in spite of the Blasts
Rohit Shetty's 'Golmaal' is ready for a big release this Friday. And with the amount of buzz it has managed to create, the trade had been expecting it to do very well at the Box Office. But with the earth-shattering bomb blasts in the city, is there any chance of people desisting from going to the movie theatres? 'I don't think so. Today itself, life is back to normalcy in Mumbai. Friday is still a couple of days away. 'Golmaal' is a solo release, its promos are good and I think it should take a good opening,' says Komal Nahta, editor Film Information. This year's big hits have been 'Fanaa' and 'Krrish' but coming from big banners with established star cast it was not much of a surprise. But it's the humungous success of 'Phir Hera Pheri' that has totally changed the economics in Bollywood. Earlier films from big banners earned huge price while the smaller producers had to settle for a smaller share in the pie. The situation today is that two films 'Golmaal' and 'Omkaara' have brokered amazing deals in the wake of first week success of 'Phir Hera Pheri'. 'Golmaal' has fetched Rs 11 crores for its Indian Theatrical release while 'Omkaara' has a booty of Rs 13 crores on its head. If they do a business of Rs 18 and Rs 21 crore respectively then they would be considered losers. These are interesting times for Bollwyood, which is enjoying a never-before Bull run.
"Golmaal Returns" cleared with 'U' certificate and no cuts
Golmaal Returns was cleared on Friday by the Indian censors with a 'U' certificate and no cuts. It was also revealed that Kareena Kapoor's character in Golmaal Returns is called Ekta, and not surprisingly, she plays a fan of saas-bahu serials! Now Kareena has taken her fondness for Ekta to the next level by deciding to hold a special screening for the television czarina next week once the prints are out. Ekta is also said to be keen to have the director of Golmaal Returns, Rohit Shetty, direct the much-awaited sequel of Kya Kool Hain Hum. Kareena's special screening will be attended by her friends Lovely Singh (who gave her It's Rocking), sister Karisma Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, among others. Golmaal Returns is out in cinemas on Wednesday 29th October. It is an Indian Films - Studio 18 worldwide release.
'Golmaal Returns' is rocking the nation
Although the recently released out and out comedy 'Golmaal Returns' had the success of the first one of the series titled as 'Golmaal' to fall back upon and thus attract the audience into the theaters, this kind of opening was not even remotely predicted. The movie produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd and directed by Rohit Shetty not only got one of the best openings witnessed in Bollywood in the recent times but is still going very strong as the crowd thronging the cinema halls are just keeping on increasing. In Chitra theatre, the movie has not only beaten all the previous records of collections of the past 9 years but also is fully booked for the next 9 days. The scenario is almost the same in others parts of India too. In Punjab, Hoshiapur, Jammu and in regions like CP Berar, Nagpur, Raipur and Amravati the halls running 'Golmaal Returns' are packed to full capacity. When the response of the International crowd is concerned, in London, the movie has been able to collect nearly 40,000 pounds in a just a single day. No wonder the makers are seriously thinking of going ahead with full confidence for making 'Golmaal-3'.

'Golmaal 4' not remake of 'Soodhu Kavvum'
Filmmaker Rohit Shetty's next 'Golmaal 4' is not a remake of the Tamil hit 'Soodhu Kavvum', says the official publicist of the film. There were reports that the fourth instalment of the hit film franchise 'Golmaal' is inspired by the 2013 Tamil hit film 'Soodhu Kavvum'. The official publicist of the film on Thursday shunned all such claims. The statement read: 'We would like to state that the news is completely untrue and baseless.' Ajay Devgn will feature in the film. Apart from that everything about the film, from its storyline to the cast is being kept under wraps. Shetty hit the jackpot with 'Golmaal: Fun Unlimited' in 2006, and has been repeating the success formula with the film franchise. The other instalments were - 'Golmaal Returns' and 'Golmaal 3'.
