The latest buzz doing rounds in Kollywood is that the long-pending Manikanda starring Arjun and Jyothika may finally hit the screens on 23 March. Manikanda featuring Arjun and Jyothika was started quite some time back. The film is produced by Malar Combines and music is by Deva. It now seems that the time is conducive to release the movie next week. After two successful hits in Pachaikili Muthucharam and Mozhi, Manikanda will be the third release for Jyothika. Let's hope that this movie too goes on to win her more accolades.

Another good news for Kollywood from CM Jayalalitha
The Tamil Nadu State Awards is the recognition of best performances in Tamil films by the Tamil Nadu State Governments. They are considered as the regional version of the National award and have a long history. Winning this award has been a dream for every artist, creator and technician of Kollywood. The State awards were instituted by the erstwhile DMK Government when it assumed office for the first time in the year 1967 and awards were given every year till 1971. Between 1971-1976 the awards were not. given. MGR after becoming Chief Minister for the first time in 1977 revived the State awards. That time, apart from awards for the films of 1977, the Best Actor and Best Actress in the years 1971-76 were also awarded with honorary certificates. This continued till 1982 before being stopped. The State awards saw another revival in 1988 and they continued for two decades until becoming defunct in 2008. But today the seeds for the resurrection of the State awards have been sown in the Tamil Nadu State Assembly. Actor and the DMK MLA of the Velachery constituency Vagai Chandrasekar asked the ADMK Government's stand on the issue. Replying to his query, the Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha said that Tamil Nadu State Film Awards function will be held in a grand manner very soon. This assurance from CM is yet another surprise gift for Kollywood and the film fraternity has already started celebrating it
Good times for Jeevan
Jeevan, the man who caught our eyes with his menacing bad ways in Kaakha Kaakha and as a lovable rascal in Thiruttu Payale, is having a good time these days. He is getting to cavort around with five heroines in Naan Avanillai, a remake of yesteryear hit of the same name. With big beauties of Tamil screen acting in the movie, Jeevan is obviously having a whale of a time. The five heroines are Sneha, Namitha, Jyothirmayi, Keerthi Chawla and Malavika. Though there are five heroines in the movie, Jeevan is hitting it off with all the five of them. "There are no ego clashes with any one of them," he says with obvious happiness. "Each one of them is good and understanding," he adds with easy diplomacy. Meanwhile, Jeevan has signed another movie named Machakaran. Machakaran in Tamil can also metaphorically mean, one who is lucky. With five heroines to act with him, Jeevan is indeed a Machakaran.
Good luck, Aryeman
Actor Aryeman Ramsay has gone for a pilgrimage tour of Shirdi, Ajmer Shariff and other holy places before the release of the film 'Goodluck' in which he plays an important role. In the film he shares the screen space with Lucky Ali, Sayali Bhagat and Ranvir Shorey. Aryeman considers this new film directed by Aasitya Datt to be a lucky film for him as he was offered eight movies after he signed the dotted line for 'Goodluck'. The film is directed by Aasitya Datt. The actor says that although he has this feeling that 'Goodluck' has come as a very good sign for his future career in acting, he needs the blessings from all the gods before the movie gets into the theatres and that he is hopeful of getting it. The new movie is said to be a very delightful one with cinematic ingredients to please all type of viewers.
Good guys turn baddies in Tamil cinema
This is the season of screen heroes turning villains in Kollywood. After establishing himself quite well as a romantic hero, Prasanna played a gangster in 'Anjathey' and most people who watched his performance were wowed. Popular Kannada actor Upendra, who rendered several hit films in the neighboring State as hero, has ventured to do a Tamil film 'Sathyam' alongside Vishal. His reportedly has some negative shades in his portrayal. 'Vanam Vasapadum' Karthik does the role of a baddie in 'Ninaithale Inikkum', that stars Prithviraj and Priyamani. Rumors are on that Prithviraj has been approached to do a villain in a Manirathinam flick that stars Vikram and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles. Abhisek Bachchan plays the hero in the Hindi version and Vikram replaces Prithviraj as villain. Actor Jayaram, hero of several Malayalam and Tamil films, plays a baddie in the 'Jayam' Ravi-starrer 'Dhaam Dhoom'. Gone are the days when villains ventured to play heroes like Rajinikanth, Sathyaraj and so on. It is the other way around in Tamil Cinema now. Remember Ajith struck stardom playing a negative role in Valee, while Vijay played a villainous character 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' and so did Kamal Haasan as a cold-blooded American killer in 'Dasavatharam'. Has this trend started because so many new heroes are introduced every month pushing many others to don negative roles OR is it because audiences have started liking negative characters?
