Govindaya Namaha Telugu Film Set For Release

The Telugu remake of Kannada film Govindaya Namaha is ready for release. Kannada director Pavan Wadeyer has directed this film as well. Manoj Manchu has done the role which Komal did in Kannada. Two tunes from the Kannada film including the sensational hit Pyarge Aaagbittaite has been used in the Telugu version. While a lot of Kannada films are being remade from other languages, Pavan Wadeyar has made a hit that is remade in another language. He has also without hype directed the film in another language also.

Govinda returns to filmmaking

Actor/MP Govinda probably has decided to return to filmmaking. This is evident from the four titles of films that have been registered under his banner with the Association of Motion Pictures and Television Program Producers. The titles registered are Thela, Roop Darshan, Babloo Bablaa and Babboo Babloo. Though the titles have been registered but there is no confirm news that Govinda is returning to production. Considering the fact that Sukh was a disaster at the box office, Govinda will definitely think twice before jumping into this. Govinda is anyway returning to acting to support his kitchen. He will be seen in a Priyadarshan comedy Bhaagam Bhaag and David Dhawan's Partners.

Govinda set to rock again in 'Sandwich'

Once upon a time there was an actor called Govinda whose mere name was good enough to pull crowds into the theatres. The king of comedy had theatres across the nation waiting for his films to get released, be it A, B or a C center! Then came multiplexes, a few bad choices of films, some sheer bad luck and an inclination towards politics that spelt disaster for his Bollywood career. People still laughed with him but his films were not funny anymore. Old releases kept piling up and when they eventually released, they happened in an arbitrary manner. But now fortunes are bound to change for him as he has a great set of films lined up in coming one year. Apart from his fresh stock of films, he also has a release pending in the form of 'Sandwich' [earlier titled 'Hum Do Hamara Ek'] and if reports are to be believed, he is all set to rock again starting with this film. Though 'Sandwich' has been lying in the cans for around 2-3 years now, this film about double trouble with Raveena Tandon and Mahima Chaudhary is directed by none other than Anees Bazmee who gave Bollywood the biggest HIT of 2005 - NO ENTRY. Going by the feelers of Sandwich, the film brings back the nostalgia of the Govinda of 90s who turned everything that he touched into gold. All set for release in a few weeks time, what one expects from Sandwich now is a reasonably good publicity, especially in the times when the first week's business is the sole decision factor about a film's fortunes. With last year and a half being simply great for comedy films, it won't be surprising if Govinda kick starts his comeback with the success of 'Sandwich' itself!

Govindas Rocking Comeback with Bhagam Bhag?

Priyadarshan, uncrowned comedy king, is back with another tour-de-force Bhagam Bhag all set for release in the merry Christmas season on 22nd December. Bhagam Bhag stars an unusual combo of actors, adding to its surprise element. One will see for the first time on screen an exciting combination of Akshay Kumar and Govinda along with Paresh Rawal, Lara Dutta, Tanushree Dutta, Arbaaz Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Manoj Joshi and Jackie Shroff. The film is about the hilarious trials and tribulations, Akshay and Govinda together go through as theatre artists with Paresh Rawal's theatre group. A laughathon which involves the comic trio running around from pillar to post trying to avoid unexpected and funny situations, only to find themselves getting deeper into trouble! I am eagerly looking forward to this film for one reason. And that's Govinda. For if he really comes into his own then there's no way one can beat him. In the last release 'Sandwich' which sank without a trace Govinda literally stole the show at times and took even the mediocre script to crackling heights. Although it lacked consistency but the world knows that if he enters his comfort zone then watching Govinda on screen is sheer treat. Here's hoping Priyadarshan must have done a grand job with Govinda in his comeback vehicle.

Govinda, the actor or the politician?

When you read the headline: 'Govinda, an actor or a politician?' What are your first thoughts? Well, it goes without saying that Govinda the actor is far superior to Govinda the failed politician. In his twenty year film career, Govinda has weathered the toughest storms and managed to claim a place for himself. On the top. In spite of the Khans, the Kumars and the Roshans of the world. 'Swarg', 'Hatya', 'Aankhen', 'Shola Aur Shabnam', 'Hero No. 1', 'Coolie No. 1', 'Saajan Chale Sasural', 'Haseena Maan Jayegi', 'Deewana Mastana' and 'Jodi No. 1''Govinda has delivered hits at every juncture of his life. Till he hit the roadblock five years ago when his films stopped working at the Box Office and the producers stopped patronizing his brand of films. That's when Govinda decided to join politics. There was no method in this madness. For even though he trounced a heavyweight like Ram Naik in a Mumbai constituency, Govinda has cut a sorry figure as a leader in the last two years or so. He doesn't attend the Parliament, seldom speaks his mind, vanishes during the floods and is unavailable when tragedy strikes in the form of train blasts. The only notable act done by him is the stoppage of August Kranti Rajdhani train (coming from Delhi) at Borivali. There was a point of time when the media made him as their favourite whipping boy with videos of his Dubai parties with the underworld being shown on national tv again-n-again. That eerie background score convicted him anyway. His family survived an untimely accident in Rajasthan while his secretary of many years died. The resurrection of Govinda the actor started with help from a few friends in the film industry. Salman Khan offered him a film opposite himself (Partner) to be directed by David Dhawan. And then Suneil Shetty left a meaty part for him in Priyadarshan's 'Bhagam Bhag' opposite Akshay Kumar. Nikhil Advani's 'Salaam-e-ishq' was like an icing on the cake for this fabulous actor. With 'Bhagam Bhag' and 'Salaam-e-ishq' ready for release, Govinda the actor is back in the reckoning. And that frown has been taken over by that ready smile. ` So, now, do you wish Govinda to continue as an actor and a politician simultaniously. Or would you want Govinda to concentrate only on his acting'Do let us know your opinion'

Govindas niece makes acting debut

Actor Govinda seems to be unfurling quite a family tree of film denizens. Within two years of his debut in films with Love '86 (1986) , his brother Kirti Kumar turned producer-director with Hatya (1988) after having sung for his brother in his third release Duty (1986) and later in many other films as well. In the millennium his nephew Vinay Anand appeared in films like Lo Main Aa Gaya and Dev Anand's Censor, his cousin Krishna Abhishek is a top Bhojpuri star today and his sister, writer-poet-anchor Kamini Khanna scored music for Ssukh, the actor's home-production with that odd spelling. Govinda incidentally has cut his own album of songs. The latest entrant from the family is Ragini Khanna, daughter of Kamini Khanna, who makes her debut in NDTV Imagine's aspirational serial Radha Ki Betiyaa'Kuch Kar Dikhayengi that will go on air in January 2008. Ragini's father is a producer, and brother Amit an actor. She has also done several print and TV ads. In Radhaa Ki Betiyaan', she plays the role of Ragini Sharma, an ambitious girl who aspires to be a super model, so that she can fulfill her dreams and see her family happy, rich and successful. Says Ragini, 'I have grown up seeing my uncle Govinda on screen and have learnt a lot from him. Now, I'm all set to put my learning to use on my show. There is no melodrama, and it is a fresh concept to which a number of mothers and daughters can relate.' Well, it's all in the family and genes. Govinda's father Ahuja was an actor and his mother Narmada a top singing-star and composer in the '40s. Quite naturally the children have inherited either music or histrionics ' or both.
