More news →Green light for Traffic Signal as it arrives solo
It couldn't have been better for Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Traffic Signal'. After postponing its release from late 2006 to early 2007, it kept reconsidering the right release timing for itself and after thinking of January as an option, it settled for February 02. Though it was still a little risky since it was supposed to come only a week after 'Salaam E Ishq' and had 'Red' as the other release coinciding with it, it was a risk that Bhandarkar was willing to take. Seems that risk has after all paid for Bhandarkar as 'Traffic Signal' would now be enjoying its status as the sole release of the week with 'Red' postponing to February 23rd. Moreover, even February 09 has two relatively low budget films releasing in the form of 'Black Friday' and 'Undertrial', each of which have their own target audience and hence won't be clashing with 'Traffic Signal'. All eyes are now set on this dark comedy by Madhur Bhandarkar to arrive on the big screen and make an impression as a third in his Mumbai-based trilogy after 'Page 3' and 'Corporate'.
'Black & White' proves green bills to Subhash Ghai
Subhash Ghai's 'Black & White' has been declared a profitable venture for Mukta Arts & Eros International. The film that released on 7th March has turned out to be very rewarding and effective throughout. The film was made with a mere budget of 7.5 crores, which is also the lowest budget ever set by Subhash Ghai for any film. The distribution rights were sold to Eros International for 15 Crores, who have managed to cover more than 25 crores including selling the satellite and other rights of the film. Sunil Lulla, Eros International said "Subhashji is known for making meaningful cinema; through 'Black & White' he has managed to grip the nerve of common people. This low-budget film will be valued more in future as it has managed to gain critical acclaim from media as well as general Public".
Akshay is the green ambassador of Bollywood
Action king Akshay kumar has now an official status and also got a solid platform to show his concern for the nature. The B-Town star has been chosen as the brand ambassador of the Green Global Foundation started by the International Indian Film Academy to highlight the issue of global warming through the events that the organization hosts and through other possible means. The Green Global Foundation was launched this year by IIFA as a way of showing solidarity with the different organizations who are fighting against global warming and also to contribute in its own ways to tackle the issue. The foundation is a joint initiative between IIFA and Wizcraft International Entertainment. The using of the green carpet during this year's stars reception at the IIFA weekend in Bangkok was a way of showing Bollywood's concern over the issue of the rapid climate change that has become a world wide phenomenon. The foundation has got a reliable and perfect partner for the cause it is fighting for in the United Nations Environmental Programe and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) headed by the Nobel laureate R.K. Pachauri. By deciding to make a documentary film on Tigers in India, John Abraham has shown how it is possible to use star status and resource to do something worth for the nature. Akshay Kumar with his wide appeal can do much more to increase the awareness on protecting the nature.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sparkles in green at Cannes
As Aishwarya Rai Bachchan dazzled in an Elie Saab emerald ensemble, the selfie fever gripped the Bollywood actress when she bumped into her friend and Hollywood actress Eva Longoria at the 68th Cannes International Film Festival here. The actress, who is attending the film festival as a L’Oréal Paris ambassador, looked resplendent as she completed her look with a matching emerald liner and sported a fusion of brown and ivory eyeshadow. Her hair also complemented the look in loose waves that fell over her shoulders making a soft and subtle statement at the red carpet. Talking of her co-ambassador, Aishwarya reminisced about the time they spent together at the film gala. “Eva and I became friends in Cannes, L’Oréal Paris brought us together. Cannes is the queen of all festivals and there is an incredible surge of energy that thrives here,” Aishwarya, 41, said in a statement. They took a selfie to cherish their red carpet moment on Sunday. With soft tones of pink on her cheeks, Aishwarya added a dash of edgy glamour to her look with a bold wine colour on her lips. The “Devdas” actress accessorised her look with shoes by Elie Saab and jewellery by De Grisogono. Earlier in the day, Aishwarya also did a shoot for L’Oréal Paris with Eva Longoria, Natasha Poly and Li Bingbing. The Indian beauty also stressed on gender equality with Hollywood star Salma Hayek at a UN women's panel discussion.
