Guru Sishyan brings out fake godmen on to the screen
There is nothing new in having real life happenings and controversial issues in the Tamil cinemas. Encashing the latest ‘Nithyananda scandal’ issue, ‘Guru Sishyan’, a movie being directed by Shakthi Chidambaram with Sundar C and Sathyaraj in lead roles is showing a few incidents related to this issue. Sources say that a few new scenes on the issue were added to the film which would bring fun to the viewer’s and the movie is expected to release soon. However, Shakthi Chidambaram denies by saying “It is true that ‘Guru Sishyan’ has scenes on fake godmen. But they were not inspired by the Nithyananda clippings. We had planned it much earlier.”
Clash between Guru and Sishya
It's a different sort of a battle between a mentor and his protege at the box office this Friday. For not just the movies directed by them are gracing theatres but also their scions are making a foray on to the big screen. Pandiarajan, a one-time associate of Bhagyaraj, came out to establish himself as a successful actor-director. Never did he fail to give due credit to Bhagyaraj for shaping up his career and teaching him the nuances of film-making. Unfortunately both the Guru and Sishya did not venture to direct a movie in the last few years. Now both are back with Parijatham and Kai Vandha Kalai respectively. Parijatham features Bhagyaraj's daughter while Kai Vandha Kala has Pandiarajan's son. Let's see who emerges the winner in the race.
Guru, Kabul Express and Anwar clash
While the clash of the movies 'Guru' and 'Bhagam Bhag' been averted, there is a clash of a different kind that would be witnessed this weekend. This is a clash between the music of 'Guru,' 'Kabul Express' and 'Anwar,' each of which have arrived on the stands this weekend. While Guru is a true magnum opus due to the coming together of Mani Ratnam and A.R.Rehman, 'Kabul Express' is big too, as it comes from the house of Yash Raj Films and boasts of some situational tracks along with instrumentals and theme pieces. With such mighty competition, 'Anwar' as a movie is obviously much smaller in scale but it may just turn out to be a dark horse when it comes to music, since it has 'Tere Bin' [Bas Ek Pal] composer Mithoon at the helm. It will be interesting to see how the sales proceedings of the three albums look, before the end of next week!
Guru release postponed
Director Manirathinam has chosen to postpone the release of Guru. The movie featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhavan in the lead roles was initially slated for release in the third week of December. Sources close to Manirathinam say the director has chosen to defer the release. Guru will hit the screens on 12 January, 2007 nationwide. Also the Tamil dubbing version of the movie would be released on the same day. Eager fans of Manirathinam should wait for few more days to see Guru. Actor Suriya lends his voice for Abhishek Bachchan in the Tamil dubbing version. Bollywood siren Bipasha Basu does an item number in the movie. Rahman has scored music for the movie. Vairamuthu is penning the lyrics in Tamil. It may be recalled that in the past both Madhavan and Aravindswamy, introduced by Manirathinam, have dubbed for other actors in Manirathnam's movies. Guru has script by Suhasini Manirathinam and cinematography by Rajeev Menon. In the film, Abhishek plays an ordinary villager, who rises to become a big industrialist in his life.
Guru show for a good cause
Guru, in Tamil version, is releasing around Pongal time in Chennai. This Abhishek-Aishwarya-Madhavan-Mithun starrer is expected to give the Pongal releases in straight Tamil, a run for their money. Suriya has dubbed for Abhishek while a top actress has done the dubbing for Aishwarya. Madhavan, who plays a journo and Mithun, a media baron, have spoken in their own voices. The film's music is a big draw and the multiplexes are already anticipating this Manirathnam venture. But much before the public releases, there is a charity screening to help the physically challenged. The show to raise funds for the Shakti Foundation will be held on January 11 at 6.30 p.m. at Sathyam Cinemas. The foundation is a Chennai-based NGO that works for the physically-challenged. Now that is indeed a good beginning from Guru.
