Guru, Kabul Express and Anwar clash

While the clash of the movies 'Guru' and 'Bhagam Bhag' been averted, there is a clash of a different kind that would be witnessed this weekend. This is a clash between the music of 'Guru,' 'Kabul Express' and 'Anwar,' each of which have arrived on the stands this weekend. While Guru is a true magnum opus due to the coming together of Mani Ratnam and A.R.Rehman, 'Kabul Express' is big too, as it comes from the house of Yash Raj Films and boasts of some situational tracks along with instrumentals and theme pieces. With such mighty competition, 'Anwar' as a movie is obviously much smaller in scale but it may just turn out to be a dark horse when it comes to music, since it has 'Tere Bin' [Bas Ek Pal] composer Mithoon at the helm. It will be interesting to see how the sales proceedings of the three albums look, before the end of next week!

Guru release postponed

Director Manirathinam has chosen to postpone the release of Guru. The movie featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhavan in the lead roles was initially slated for release in the third week of December. Sources close to Manirathinam say the director has chosen to defer the release. Guru will hit the screens on 12 January, 2007 nationwide. Also the Tamil dubbing version of the movie would be released on the same day. Eager fans of Manirathinam should wait for few more days to see Guru. Actor Suriya lends his voice for Abhishek Bachchan in the Tamil dubbing version. Bollywood siren Bipasha Basu does an item number in the movie. Rahman has scored music for the movie. Vairamuthu is penning the lyrics in Tamil. It may be recalled that in the past both Madhavan and Aravindswamy, introduced by Manirathinam, have dubbed for other actors in Manirathnam's movies. Guru has script by Suhasini Manirathinam and cinematography by Rajeev Menon. In the film, Abhishek plays an ordinary villager, who rises to become a big industrialist in his life.

Guru show for a good cause

Guru, in Tamil version, is releasing around Pongal time in Chennai. This Abhishek-Aishwarya-Madhavan-Mithun starrer is expected to give the Pongal releases in straight Tamil, a run for their money. Suriya has dubbed for Abhishek while a top actress has done the dubbing for Aishwarya. Madhavan, who plays a journo and Mithun, a media baron, have spoken in their own voices. The film's music is a big draw and the multiplexes are already anticipating this Manirathnam venture. But much before the public releases, there is a charity screening to help the physically challenged. The show to raise funds for the Shakti Foundation will be held on January 11 at 6.30 p.m. at Sathyam Cinemas. The foundation is a Chennai-based NGO that works for the physically-challenged. Now that is indeed a good beginning from Guru.

Guru proves a point

Mani Rathnam has lived up to his reputation of being touted as the country's best director. His Guru, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, has managed to collect huge revenue and also has won the director greater accolades. The Hindi version of Guru opened worldwide last week and has been collecting huge revenue wherever it was screened. Mani Rathnam, considered the master of mixing commercial and mass cinema, is now going places. The director was reportedly approached by a couple of Hollywood production houses to do a film for them, but he meekly rejected those offers. Guru, loosely based on the life of business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani, is expected to win several awards for Mani Rathnam and his team. Abhishek's excellent performance, Rahman's catchy musical score and Rajeev Menon's cinematography have been winning appreciations. However, Mani Rathnam is his usual self, ready to commence work for his next movie, Lajjo, starring Aamir Khan.

'Guru En Aalu' moves to Dubai

Madhavan's 'Guru En Aalu' will be shot in a few exotic locales in Dubai. Directed by Selvah and produced by KRG, the movie is a remake of the recent Bollywood hit 'Yes Boss'. The Shahrukh Khan starrer 'Yes Boss' was about a youth, who is desperate to strike it rich in life. He encounters a situation wherein he has to advocate the cause of his boss to a beautiful young girl. In time the youth himself falls for her. The Tamil version features Madhavan, Malayalam actress Mamta Mohandas and Abbas in lead roles. The shooting is on at a quick pace and major portions were canned in Chennai. Now the crew is planning to film some important scenes in Dubai. Selvah is also contemplating on shooting a song sequence in Switzerland. Madhavan is upbeat about the movie. He says, 'I had seen 'Yes Boss' several times. It has loads of emotions, romance and humor in it. Selvah is a crafty director, who can do justice to the script'.

Guru En Aalu opts out of the race

Madhavan starrer 'Guru En Aalu' has reportedly opted out of the Diwali race leaving just three big films to compete for the festival. 'Guru En Aalu' produced by KRG and directed by Selvah, features Madhavan, Abbas and Mamtha Mohandoss in the lead roles. It is inspired by the Bollywood hit 'Yes Boss' and is a comical entertainer. Vivek hogs the limelight by playing a young woman in the film. Though the movie has been censored, a shrewd KRG has opted not to compete with biggies like 'Aegan' starring Ajith, 'Varanam Aayiram' with Suriya and Bharath's 'Seval'. It is expected that 'Guru En Aalu' might hit the screens perhaps after a couple of weeks.
