Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha are most googled actors!
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan and evergreen actress Rekha, who have famously co-starred in films like "Silsila" and "Mr. Natwarlal", have landed top spots in a list of 'Classic Actors' and 'Classic Actresses', drawn on the basis of the most searched about Indian cinema stars on Google over the last 10 years. Similar lists have been drawn for actors, actresses, directors, singers and movies that have inspired the most digital curiosity in India between 2006 to 2016. While Amitabh, 73, has topped a list which comprises Kamal Hassan, Rajesh Khanna, Mithun Chakraborty, Rajkumar, Dharmendra, Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor and lastly Rishi Kapoor (in the same order), the enigmatic Rekha has left behind screen beauties like Sridevi, Madhubala, Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman, Dimple Kapadia, Mumtaz, Meena Kumari, Parveen Babi and Saira Banu. Among the actors, 'Dabangg' superstar Salman Khan who has taken the box office by storm with his latest release 'Sultan' has secured the top spot. He has pipped Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Amitabh, Rajinikanth, Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Aamir Khan and Emraan Hashmi. Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone, who forayed into Bollywood with 'Jism 2' and has since then landed herself in various movies and item songs, has been generating curiosity among Google fans too. Users seem to be wanting to know more about her than about names like Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kajal Aggarwal, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Tamannaah Bhatia, Alia Bhatt and Sonakshi Sinha. × "Indians have been turning to the web to find out more about their favourite stars for over a decade now and we have been evolving Google Search to give them richer, better answers," said Sapna Chadha, Google India's Marketing Head. "With around 1 in 10 mobile searches in India related to Indian cinema, we recently launched a range of immense search experiences that give film lovers an easy way to discover and explore everything they want to know about their favourite movies, stars, music, actors and more," Chadha added. As per the search trends, Aamir's 'PK' has managed to attract more attention than 'Kahaani', 'Baahubali', 'Aashiqui 2', 'Dhoom 3', 'Kick', 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', 'Happy New Year', 'Hero' and 'Ek Villain' In the director's category, Prabhudheva took the lion's share in terms of being 'searched' on Google. He was followed by Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Raj Kapoor, Ram Gopal Varma, Farah Khan, Anurag Kashyap, Yash Chopra. Rohit Shetty and Rajkumar Hirani. It's also interesting how while rap is getting increasingly popular in Bollywood, Yo Yo Honey Singh has emerged as the top searched singer on Google in the country. Others who round up the top ten are Atif Aslam, Arijit Singh, Lata Mangeshkar, Sonu Nigam, Kishore Kumar, Shreya Ghoshal, Kumar Sanu, Himesh Reshammiya and Sunidhi Chauhan.
Filmmakers shouldn't be burdened with making issue-based movies
Richa Chadha, who has worked in films like 'Fukrey' and 'Masaan', says filmmakers should not be burdened with the responsibility of making films based on social issues all the time. "I am happy that films are talking about various issues these days, but films are not meant only to speak about that. A film is a piece of fiction or piece of art which is made to make money at the box office," Richa told IANS. "I don't think film makers should be burdened with the responsibility of making films on social issues," she added. Having said that, Richa stressed that "a commercial film has a relevant message that reaches wider audience and (if that happens) it's a great achievement." "Films like 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and 'PK' made a huge difference," she said. The actress, who comes from a non-film background and is critically acclaimed for her flawless performances, says some great work is coming her way lately. "Of late, great work is coming my way and I am excited about it. I think work will only get better and things are improving. I am happy with the kind of cinema I am doing. You will hear some great announcements soon." Richa recently wrapped up shooting for an Indo-American film titled "Love Sonia", directed by Tabrez Noorani and produced by David Wormack.
Pooja Bhatt reveals why Richa Chadha-starrer 'Cabaret' has been delayed
Pooja Bhatt yesterday revealed why her upcoming production, Cabaret starring Richa Chadha, has been delayed. The film is apparently facing copyright violation. The actress-turned-filmmaker tweeted, “Much speculation about the release of @cabaretthefilm & rightly so. Truth is my copyright has been violated on the film & we are fixing that.” She then posted, “All my films get a dignified release. Will not permit @CabaretTheFilm to debut unless ALL players put their supposed clout & might behind it.” Cabaret was slated to hit the marquee on May 27. It was then pushed to June 10, but now there is no news of any release date.
Richa Chadha to replace Chitrangda Singh in 'Babumoshai Bandookbaaz'
Over a week after Chitrangda Singh walked out of Kushan Nandy's much delayed film, 'Babumoshai Bandookbaaz', the makers have apparently zeroed in on a replacement. Richa Chadha is likely to step in as Nawazuddin Siddiqui's leading lady. Chitrangada had alleged that the makers were forcing her to do intimate scenes that were unnecessary and also did not go with her character. She claimed that she was asked to wear an unbuttoned blouse and a petticoat, and lie on Nawaz with her legs spread apart. The two parties had an ugly spat and traded several allegations against each other after she opted out of the film. Says a source, "The makers were waiting for the controversy to blow over before announcing a replacement. They are finalising another actress and want to begin anew. In all probability, it is going to be Nawaz's 'Gangs of Wasseypur' (2012) co-star Richa." A cautious Nandy says, "Richa is a wonderful actor and it would be a pleasure to have her on board, but at this juncture, I cannot comment on this. I am confirming and not confirming (the story) at this point." He adds that their ongoing shoot in Lucknow has not stopped post Chitrangada's exit. "Our shoot is on schedule," says the director. The long-in-the-making film had gone on the floors earlier this month in Lucknow. Nawaz and Chitrangda had shot for 'Babumoshai Bandookbaaz' in December 2014 in Kolkata, Bolpur and Burdwan in West Bengal. The shoot was, however, affected due to alleged trouble with local technicians and non-payment of dues. Nandy then started it as a new project and whatever had been shot earlier was scrapped. He now has the added task of deleting what was shot with Chitrangda in the current Lucknow schedule. Richa, who is attending an awards ceremony in Spain, remained unavailable for comment.
Huma Qureshi: Hugh Bonneville deeply interested in India, Indian politics
Huma Qureshi, who will be seen sharing screen space with Hugh Bonneville in Gurinder Chadha's British-Indian historical drama film 'Viceroy's House', says the British star is "deeply interested in India and Indian politics". "Hugh is wonderful and of course, he is very talented. At the same time, he is very intelligent. Hugh is very aware and abreast with world views, current trends... He would come across as someone who is deeply interested in India and Indian politics," Huma told IANS. The 29-year-old actress also said that Bonneville -- popular playing Robert Grantham in TV drama "Downton Abbey" -- was very lovely to work with. "Hugh was very lovely to work with and I had a lot of fun with working with international cast, and Hugh specially," said Huma, a fan of "Downton Abbey", a show that she follows closely. Chadha's directorial "Viceroy's House" is about the inside life of the Viceroy's House in 1947 during the Partition of India. Huma feels the youth will connect with the film. "I think that today's youth is very politically aware. I think it started right from 'Rang De Basanti' time, when suddenly you saw a lot of young people, engaging with politics, current affairs and with what is happening in the world," Huma added. She says the youth is very aware about national and international politics. "The theme of the film or what the film is trying to say using Partition as a metaphor is very valid in today's time," she added. The "D-Day" actress says that the film is based on a lot of facts and historical events, but there are some characters that are fictionalised. "'Viceroy's House' is based on lot of facts and historical events through files which were de-classified by the British government a few years ago, and a lot of information and politics about the Viceroy's House sort of come from there. But there's a a big human angle in it and a lot of characters are fictionalised. "That is what makes the film and the story more enduring."
