Aamir Khan urges Indians to support Haiti quake victims

Actor Aamir Khan Sunday asked Indians to support hundreds of thousands of Haitians devastated by an earthquake. “What has happen in Haiti is really terrible and I would strongly recommend the people of India to reach out and help in every way possible,” Aamir told reporters at Grand Hyatt here Sunday, where auction of Indian modern art was organised to raise funds for Haiti. The Jan 12 quake with a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale killed more than 200,000 people and destroyed much of Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince and its surroundings, tearing up roads and bridges and reducing homes and hospitals to rubble. Aamir supports “Hope for Haiti”, an organisation raising funds for the earthquake-affected people of the island. “I think we should all do what we can to help people who had been through such a tragedy. I am here to support the cause,” Aamir said. Asked if he wants to convey any message to people of Haiti, he said: “It is extremely difficult, at a time when a person has lost everything, to convey or communicate anything. What I want to convey them is all my love and warmth. In times like this, people need to be strong and resilient. Such happenings are beyond our control and we should look inward for strength.” Actor Anil Kapoor, who was present at the event said: “I am very, very proud to see Indians coming up to support this cause. In the last one-and-a-half-years. I have visited the US a number of times and whomever I met there, I have seen everyone has shown his or her eagerness to help India. “And today India has reached such a position that it can also help. Economically it is growing so strong that it can afford to help others. That makes me proud.”

Hasini is Genelia

Genelia, who debuted in Kollywood through the Shankar directed film 'Boys' and rose to absolute stardom with the blockbuster 'Santosh Subramaniam', is an infrequent kind of an actress who has the rare combination of both the suave performance and charming looks. With more and more of her films becoming major hits at the box office of Kollywood, Tollywood and Bollywood, Genelia has been flooded with offers from producers and her schedule has become too hectic to commit herself to other projects. But despite her chalk-a-block schedule, the actress always looks refreshingly different. When she was asked on her fresh looks, Genelia answers in her trademark style as, 'Is it? I don't know. I guess I am just growing up. Perhaps the reason could be my 'take it easy' attitude like Hasini in 'Santosh Subramaniam'. I am neither irked nor bothered by things happening around me. I am always cool, confident and cheerful.'

Hosting award functions in south can be challenging: Allu Sirish

Actor Allu Sirish, who is excited about hosting the Telugu segment in the upcoming inaugural edition of International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Utsavam, says it will be equally challenging. IIFA Utsavam, a celebration of the Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada film industries, will take place here from December 4-6. "It will be an honour to host and I'm very excited. The organisers wanted a young actor with spunk, and someone who can be funny too. They felt I fit the bill and that's how I came on board," Sirish told. He admits hosting award functions in the south can be tricky. "Unlike Bollywood where everything is taken in a lighter vein, award functions in the south have predominantly been very formal. It's very challenging because people here are not used to below the belt humour; they take everything personally," he said. This time, however, it will be "informally funny". "We will try and find a common ground; anticipate what will work and what won't. We've already started working on the script and writing the gags. It's going to be fun. I'm already enjoying the experience," he added. On the film front, Sirish is currently shooting for a yet-untitled Telugu project with director Parasuram.

What Hasini says

Genelia made her debut as heroine through 'Boys' simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu languages. Later she played several good roles in various films. She played opposite all the heroes of the present generation including Nithin, Siddhartha, Venkatesh, NTR, Vishnu, Allu Arjun. However, she failed to earn enough name which she ought to. Last year, she played a good character as 'Hasini' in 'Bommarillu' produced by Dil Raju. More than a good character, it is the main character in this film. Her character is the highlight of the film, as it was moulded as a bubbly, innocent and at the same time a girl with individuality, besides a sensitive girl. The character had impressed every one so much that the director of the film, Bhaskar had also given a statement that he wanted to marry a girl who had the characteristics of 'Hasini'. After that character earned her a very good name, everyone was of the opinion that Genelia would bag many offers and she will become very busy. But to the dismay of all of them she remained very free. Now, she bagged an offer to play heroine in 'Mr Medhavi'. According to sources close to Genelia, the heroine is showing interest to do films only which would earn her such a recognition like the one in 'Bommarillu'.

Genelia restates 'Hasini' in Bollywood

Genelia an ever jubilant girl started her career as a debutante at the same point of time in three movies in different languages. The movies 'Boys' (Tamil), 'Sathyam' (Telugu), 'Tuje Meri Kasam' (Hindi) starred her in the lead roles which was made in 2003. She is now on cloud nine, triumphing over a series of blockbusters in the South. Genelia was away from Bollywood for awhile, as she was occupied with Telugu and Tamil flicks which was under progress. The recent spectacular hit 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane na' attained her fabulous fame and proposals for new projects started queuing in for the actress. Among them Genelia stars for the third time as Hasini in the Hindi remake of the Telugu Blockbuster 'Bommarillu'. The remakes usually will feature heroines who are widely recognized in their respective industries but Genelia had the rare opportunity to play the role of 'Hasini' in all the three versions as she is known widely. The Hindi version titled as 'It's my Life' is produced by Bony Kapoor.
