I don't fear the Public, I am the Public'This is one of the catch-lines hogging attention in the newspaper advertisements of Mani Rathnam's 'Guru'. The main catchline ' Villager, Visionary, Winner'.Continues to be the mainstay'This has to be said that in its final stage of Herculean Publicity, 'Guru' is definitely evoking curiosity that goes beyond mere entertainment. It's being said that this is Abhishek Bachchan's best work. And if the promos are any testimony then Bachchan Junior surely seems to be on top. In his young avatar flirting with Mayya Mayya oomph doll Mallika Sherawat or singing Aishwarya duets with mountain backdrops, Abhi looks hot. But it's his transformation into the industrialist, the leader phase that's startling. His body language when he screams: 'Banna chahte ho is desh ki sabse badi company' is spellbinding. And the paralytic moments with his mouth clenched is stunning to say the least. Some films are beyond Box Office. 'Guru' seems to be one of them. Mani Rathnam's 'Yuva' earned Abhishek loads of Best Supporting Actor awards'.Will 'Guru' take him beyond everything else. Wait for January 12th'.The verdict will be out soon.
"I dont think a prison story like JAIL has been done before" - Madhur Bhandarkar
Percept Picture Company had announced its next hard hitting entertaining film JAIL. This movie will be directed by the master of the realistic cinema Madhur Bhandarkar, with Neil Nitin Mukesh as the protagonist. Madhur is well known for making out of the league sensible movies, which have been extracted from real life events. A press conference was held in Mumbai where all the cast and crew of the movie were present. Mr. Shailendra Singh, Jt. MD Percept Limited says, 'We are proud to announce JAIL with Bhandarkar Entertainment. After a successful run with Page 3, Corporate and Traffic Signal our relation with Madhur Bhandarkar has moved to the next level. With 3 national awards to his credit & accomplishments that quite speak for themselves, Madhur has established himself as a phenomenal film maker.' Jail is a hard hitting yet sensitive tale of an ordinary man Parag Dixit, played by Neil Mukesh, who finds himself inside the four walls of a prison thanks to a series of unfortunate events around him. The whole film is from his point of view and tells the stories of several other inmates of the prison. Some of these are under trials, convicts and also the cops who are in charge of maintaining the order in the prison. Jail gives a ringside view of the world that exists inside the walls of the prison spread across our country. Madhur Bhandarkar told about his new venture that, 'Jail is based on the under-trials and as the name suggests, it is the baseline of my film. I don't think a prison story like Jail has been done so far in Hindi Cinema. I always want to go into genres that are new to be explored. But there were too many practical problems. It'll be in the thriller format. I've been mulling the subject right from the time I made 'Chandni Bar'. Now I've completely revamped the film'. The shooting of the film is going to begin from October this year. The film is scheduled for a 1st May 2009 release. PPC and Madhur Bhandarkar have come a long way together with their successful association with Page-3, Corporate and Traffic Signal. Recently Madhur has won the National Award for the Best Film Director for PPC's Traffic Signal. With this award to his tally, he has struck a hat-trick of National Awards. I don't mind doing a French kiss, says Abhishek
'I don't mind doing a French kiss on screen,' says the most-coveted-bachelor-in-town Abhishek Bachchan. And what if your co-star has a bad breath? 'There's nothing I can do about it. I am a professional and I'll go ahead and do my job,' he adds tongue-in-cheek (Literally). That's Abhishek for you. Full of life and candid-to-the-hilt. Six years in the industry, people have now started noticing him after a spate of forgettable films. Not merely features, but like his father, he is becoming much-in-demand by the any-n-every product launches. He has a few big films lined up. First to come will be Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' this August and Come-Diwali, we shall see him in a double whammy: 'Dhoom 2' and 'Umrao Jaan'. Yes, 'Don' is no more releasing this Diwali after the Yashraj Films planned to hijack most of the theatres for their big release. In fact, there's a buzz that Shahrukh is not happy with the outcome of the final output of the film. And that can be a big setback for the distributors who trust SRK's judgment. Nevertheless, talking about AB Junior, then yes he is admitting that he is in 'Love'. But without a prior warning, he clears-the-air with a chuckle by adding: 'I am in love with my work.' He skirts the issue of his alleged affair with Aishwarya Rai by stating that it's a creation of Media's figment of imagination. So is he single: 'Yes,' he says.
"I don't care if Malaika and Amrita were to do my song" - Sophie Choudry
Sophie Choudry is going places! The actress has just replaced Malaika Arora Khan and Amrita Arora for an item number in Sanjay Gadhvi's Kidnap. Sophie said, "Sanjay Gadhvi and I have been good friends! He had spoken to me about this song three weeks ago. I usually have refrained from doing item numbers but I could not say no to this one was because it is a crucial part of the film. The song appears during the pre-climax of the film. It is great being a part of a film in such big way. Also it involved Sanjay Dutt and I'd do anything for a respected and adored actor like him." When asked about she replacing Malaika and Amrita Sophie replied, "I am doing the song now and that is a fact! I am not aware that Malaika and Amrita were to do it. I was not in country when the news that Malaika and Amrita were to do the number splashed out in the media. I don't even care about it." Sanjay Gadhvi said that Sophie was apt for the song. "The personality that Sophie has is in sync with the look and the song. I could not have wanted anybody else for this number." Sophie had won accolades and applause for her number in Pyar Ke Side Effects earlier.
"I don't mind being called a Ranbir Kapoor" - Anant
At the recently concluded Osian Cine-Fan Film Festival held in the capital, celebrity-journalist turned upcoming Bollywood actor Anant Narayan was mobbed by a crowd of enthusiastic fans, who mistook Anant for the current heartthrob of the nation ' Ranbir Kapoor, leaving Anant completely bemused and stunned at the rather bizarre turn of events. Anant had made a brief appearance at the festival to attend the special screening of Joymoti ' the first Assamese film. One of Anant's closest friends happens to be the great grandson of the illustrious Assamese film legend Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, also the maker of Joymoti. It was but of course, a special day for Anant's friend and he wanted to be there for him despite being advised not to attend the film festival given the exhaustive media cover present at the festival. Though throughout the screening, Anant managed to stay away from the media glare, just as he was about the exit the festival a crowd of enthusiastic fans came raging towards him calling out 'Ranbir' 'Ranbir' 'Look Ranbir Kapoor is here'. "At first when I saw and heard a group of fans walking towards me shouting things like "Ranbir Kapoor's here", I though Ranbir had actually come down from Mumbai to attend the festival. Thus I turned around looking for him but found no one instead. It's only when a girl walked up to me and asked me for Ranbir's autograph that I realized what was going on. I immediately explained to everyone present that I was not Ranbir Kapoor and that I was Anant, a film journalist who is going to join Hindi movies soon. But the crowd was just not convinced," recalls an overwhelmed Anant. Onlookers were stunned at the rather uncanny facial resemblance Anant shared with Ranbir. "Some thought I looked like a younger version of Ranbir. I did take it as a huge compliment because I honestly think he's great looker, and as far as they are comparing me with someone as good looking as Ranbir, I have absolutely no problems. Unlike other newcomers, I don't mind being called a Ranbir Kapoor look-alike though I very honestly feel we both don't resemble each other at all. We're characteristically different looking people. Maybe our body structure is similar but that's where our resemblance ends. But I'm not complaining! No doubt, it's immensely flattering to be compared to someone who is one of the hottest cinematic icons of recent times" says Anant.
