The forthcoming Shahid-Kareena starrer Jab We Met, could have been titled Ishq Via Bhatinda or Punjab Mail as per an audience poll conducted in India. The audience voted for the title "Jab We Met", one of the three options, because of its informal, young and romantic sound. Not many know the rationale behind the two Punjab-centric titles that got eliminated in the voting process. The logic behind "Ishq Via Bhatinda" comes from the fact that the character (Geet) played by Kareena Kapoor is one of a Sikhni from Bhatinda (a town in Punjab), which is where she takes Aditya (Shahid Kapur), her fellow passenger. Incidentally, the name of the train (in the film) headed to Bhatinda is Punjab Mail, which forms the basis of the second title. Their first ever meeting on a train kicks off a romantic journey with unexpected twists and turns, which explains the title, "Jab We Met". According to sources, this title was also Shahid's numero uno choice from the list of titles. Jab We Met releases on October 26.
JAB WE MET - Choreography by chance!
Director Imtiaz Ali was keen to have ace choreographer Saroj Khan for the 'Yeh Ishq' track from 'Jab We Met', shot with 180 Himachali dancers in Manali and the Rohtang Pass. However, Saroj Khan's dates were becoming difficult to secure and the search for an alternative began. Coincidentally, the crew discovered that she was also shooting in Manali at the time of 'Yeh Ishq' but for another film. Imtiaz met her immediately and requested her to choreograph 'Yeh Ishq', to which she finally agreed. Kareena, who has been a student of Saroj Khan, was rather nervous about the fact that the hard taskmaster (who doesn't take kindly to actors' mistakes while dancing) would be on the sets for four whole days to choreograph the song. But once the shoot started, it proceeded smoothly, and both Kareena and Saroj Khan immensely enjoyed their experience of working together once again! The results are evident in the visuals of the 'Yeh Ishq' track!
JAB PUNJABIS MET
It is common knowledge that a large part of Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met has been shot in Punjab (near Patiala) and that Shahid and Kareena even have Punjabi dialogues to mouth as both essay Punjabi characters, Aditya and Geet. Remarks director Imtiaz Ali, "While Aditya and Geet are essentially metropolitan, the moment they reach Punjab in the film, one can see their true North-Indian colours with Shahid in his pathani-style kurta-pyjama and Kareena in her salwar-kameez. Both of them were looking forward to playing Punjabi characters for the first time, and were in fact, even shooting a film in Punjab for the first time." Interestingly, Shahid and Kareena's real-life lineage also finds itself in Punjab. Both Pankaj Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor are Punjabis. Jab We Met releases worldwide on October 26. It is being distributed overseas by Studio 18.

JAB WE MET grosses £156,013, smash hit in UK
The much talked about Shahid Kapoor - Kareena Kapoor starrer Jab We Met, which previewed in the UK on 25th October, has "smashed" the box-office on its opening weekend. An Indian Films release distributed by Studio 18, Jab We Met grossed £11,488 on its advance previews night on Thursday, and £144,525 on its opening weekend, making its gross to date, £156,013 from 31 sites. This is the biggest ever opening for a solo Shahid Kapoor-starrer, radically above that of his other erstwhile hits in the UK, Chup Chup Ke and 36 China Town. Says Tanuj Garg, Head - UK & Europe, Studio 18, "It's been a while since we had a young well-made romantic comedy. The heartening opening of Jab We Met in the UK can be attributed to strong marketing and promotion aided by exuberant reviews and word-of-mouth."
