Deepika Padukone has scored a hattrick with the success of "Ram-leela" and the actress is receiving plaudits from all quarters. Her first big hit of the year was "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" and “Chennai Express” followed it. Now comes "Ram-leela". The three back-to-back hits boast of variety. From playing nerdy Naina to South Indian Meenamma and now a Gujarati girl in "Ram-leela", the 27-year-old has proved her versatility with the three movies. Sarang Chandak of Shri Rang Films said that Deepika's performance was "outstanding". "I believe the film will have a very impressive run at the ticket windows. Deepika not only looks stunning in the film, she has also delivered an outstanding performance," Chandak said. Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines feels that Deepika has contributed to the success of "Ram-leela" and added that the actress has emerged as a "sure-shot success at the box office this year". In "Ram-leela" director Sanjay Leela Bhansali presented the fresh pair of Ranveer Singh and Deepika to narrate William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" in desi style with Gujarat as its backdrop. Said Debashish Dey of Aum Moviez, West Bengal: "Thanks to Deepika and her success with her previous releases, the response to afternoon shows improved. Expectations are at an all-time high." Deepika, daughter of veteran badminton player Prakash Padukone, made her Bollywood debut with Farah Khan-directed 2007 hit "Om Shanti Om", where she played Shah Rukh Khan's love interest. She then appeared in films like "Bachna Ae Haseeno", "Chandni Chowk To China", "Love Aaj Kal", "Housefull", "Break Ke Baad", "Aarakshan" and "Desi Boyz", but it was only after her bold character portrayal of Veronica in "Cocktail" that the industry realised her hidden potential. She will next be seen in "Finding Fanny" and "Happy New Year".
Ek Villain hits a jackpot, Shraddha Kapoor relieved
"Ek Villain" success soared up and crossed Rs.100 crore mark at the box office and brought a sigh of relief to the film's leading lady Shraddha Kapoor. Released June 27, "EK Villain", which came out of producer Ekta Kapoor's stable, crossed Rs.100 crore mark at the box office. If people liked Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha as the lead pair, they equally appreciated Riteish Deshmukh in his villainous avatar. "As an actress, it's extremely relieving to receive positive response from the audience," Shraddha, whose last film "Aashiqui 2" was a blockbuster too, told IANS. "The film has done really well at the box office, which gives you a lot of confidence to do more films. I have been celebrating the success of the film from day one when it opened well at the box office. I am feeling extremely relieved," she added. Interestingly, director Mohit Suri helmed both “EK Villain” and “Aashiqui 2”. "I am fortunate enough to have got an opportunity to work with Mohit. Mohit is a dear friend and he is a gem of a person. It's always a pleasure to work with him because he has a clarity on whatever he is doing," said the actress.
Srikant hits the jackpot at Rs 1 crore
Srikant is one hero who has been in the rat race for many years now. Naturally, over the years, he has mastered the art of survival. Despite being in the industry for more than a decade, he is mostly associated with family dramas, made on modest budgets. Only recently, Srikant got into an elitist clique in the industry by acting along with the megastar in Shankardada MBBS and its sequel. Then, he got to act in 'Yamagola'- Mallaimodalayyindi. Both the films helped him shrug off the family man image he has had till now. Also, he has consciously tried to change his image by doing Nagaram recently. He is being appreciated for going back to action after a long time and many feel he has managed to play the angry man with conviction despite the long gap. But what has come as a real surprise to many is the consistent demand that the industry has for Srikant. After many years, he has hiked his price from Rs 40 lakh and has almost doubled it to Rs 1 crore now. But this seems to be no deterrent to producers who earlier looked at him for average budget films. He has just signed two films with Charmme, one of which is being produced by Dr Ramanaidu and only today, another film of his has been launched with Bhoomika in the lead. He is said to have more offers in the pipeline, some of which will be announced soon. So, looks like, Srikant is set for a jolly good ride!
AP Distributors Jackpot With Satakarni?
There is no doubt that Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna enjoys phenomenal craze in Ceded and his films collect staggering revenues in the mass area. However, the news of the Ceded rights of the senor actor's upcoming historical film 'Gauthamiputra Satakarni' getting sold for a record price of Rs 9 crores, raised a few eyebrows. It may be noted that this is the highest price ever offered for a Balayya starrer. But, the deal is not risky as opined by a few. As this Balayya starrer brings the historical story of a renowned Amaravati king on to silver screen, the film has high chances of getting tax exemption from the AP govt. It may be recalled that Telangana govt. had earlier provided tax exemption for 'Rudhramadevi' movie since it was presenting the history of Orugallu aka Warangal queen. For the movies with tax exemption, the gross becomes the distributor's share and this yields good profits for the distributors. Trade opines that collecting Rs 9 crrore gross in Ceded area is not at all a difficult task for a Balayya starrer. The added advantages for GPS are Balayya's proficient track record when it comes to mythological and historical films and Krish's already proven directorial ability. Not just from Ceded, the makers might receive similar staggering offers from distributors of Andhra as well because if the AP govt. announces tax exemption, it will be applicable to the entire state. The historical drama will however have to face severe competition at the box office for Sankranthi 2017.
