Director S P Jananathan and cinematographer Ekambaram enjoy a special chemistry. After an excellent work in Iyarkai, the two came together to continue their good show in E. Ekambaram, who missed the national award for best cinematographer in Iyarkai by a whisker, says, 'A cameraman should be able to get into the director's mind and accordingly give the best'. Ekamabram worked as an assistant to Jeeva in Vaali and Kushi before making his debut in Thamizhan. 'But it was Iyarkai that gave me an identity,' he says. Jananathan is also thrilled to work with Ekambaram, 'His imaginative camera work gave life to the visuals.' E is a hit and the two technically sound pair is happy with the way things have worked out.
Jananathans next with Jeeva
Director Jananathan is just two-films old. But he has managed to win the admiration of film-buffs. His maiden directorial venture Iyarkai won his rave reviews and won the National award for the best regional cinema. His next E, a sci-fi thriller starring Jeeva was a blockbuster. The movie was a run away hit in Telugu too. Jananathan is all set to commence his next film. Interestingly, he has chosen to produce the same. The director is planning to start his own production house titled Binary Films. Buzz is that his next film would also feature Jeeva in the lead role. Jananathan has a great passion for literature and is nursing ambition to make a film out of a novel soon.
Jananathan - Thinking directors thoughtful move
After a huge hit in E, director Jananathan is gearing up to commence his next. Buzz is that the movie would star Jayam Ravi in the lead roles. Jananathan shot to fame with Iyarkai, which had Shaam, Kuty Radhika and Arun Kumar in pivotal roles. Though the movie did not succeed commercially, Jananathan won critical acclaims for the movie. It was adjudged the best regional film in the National Awards that year. Jananathan followed it up with a big hit in E starring Jeeva and Nayanthara. The movie dealt on a global issue and it instantly managed to evoke positive response from the masses. For his next, Jananthan has chosen Jayam ravi. The movie will have five prominent heroines shaking their legs with Ravi. Cinematographer Ekambaram will crank the camera. Search is on for the heroines.
Jananathan alleges Bhansali of plagiarism
Jananathan, one of the distinctive directors in Tamil industry, has alleged that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Saawariya' is nothing but a movie copied from his 'Iyarkkai'. According to Jananthan, a few years ago, Bollywood producer Bokadia had evinced interest in remaking the movie in Hindi with Salman Khan in the lead role and took a print from him. 'Till date, I have not received the print'', says the director. Jananathan, of course, agrees that his film was an adoption of Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky's classical fiction White Nights. 'But I had made many changes in my script to suit the Tamil audience, while Sanjay Leela Bhansali has straight away lifted my script', claims Jananathan. 'Iyarkai', which was released three years back fetched Jananthan national award. 'Saawariya', which hit the screens recently, has been receiving poor responses from both critics and the audiences.
