Veteran actress Sahukar Janaki who was last seen as Puneeth Rajkumar's grand mother in 'Abhi' is back after 10 years. This time the actress is playing Komal's grand mother in 'Pungidasa'.Yes, Sahukar Janaki is playing a prominent role in Komal's new film. Though Janaki is the most sought after actress in not only Kannada, but Tamil and Telugu also, the veteran actress has been restraining from acting due to various reasons. However, Janaki has ended the self imposed exile by acting in 'Pungidasa'.The veteran actress has given 20 dates call sheet for the film and has already participated in the shooting for few days at a house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
Is Janani the most original shocking ever?
Last Friday saw the release of a small time film titled 'Janani' that stars Bhagyashree, Ayesha Jhulka, Mohnish Behl and Aman Behl. The film is touted to have a bold theme since it narrates the tale of a young man falling in love with a girl who turns out to be his sister! Shocking? Yes. But the most original ever? Certainly not! Film buffs may remember that around half a century back [in 1960], there was a film released by the name of 'Bambai Ka Babu'. This was the first time in Hindi cinema when a bold theme dealing with an incestuous relationship was tackled. Directed by Raj Khosla, the film had starred Dev Anand and Suchitra Sen as the lead protagonists. Though beyond the basic shock value in the two films, the script and storyline of 'Janani' is completely different, one certainly can't deny the fact that it is not the most original ever!
GV Prakash to romance Janani Iyer!
Music director turn actor GV Prakash has signed one more Tamil film, even before his first film as hero releases. He would get to romance Janani Iyer in this new film. Actress Janani Iyer who was last seen in the superhit Tamil thriller Thegidi opposite Ashok Selvan will play GV Prakash Kumar's love interest in this untitled new film. GV Prakash himself composed the music for this Shalom Studios production film. Darling, Pencil and Trisha Illana Nayantara are the upcoming GV Prakash starrer films.
Janaki receives Suseela award
Veteran playback singer S Janaki, who has won several National Awards, has been chosen to receive the first P. Suseela National Award. The award was instituted by the P. Suseela Trust and would be presented to Janaki on the 13th of November. According to music composer M. S. Viswanathan, 'Janaki is the right choice. She has dedicated herself for playback singing.' Though a native of Andhra Pradesh, her Tamil diction is flawless, he said and added that she is a great human being. Lyricist Vairamuthu, one of the members of the jury, expressed his admiration for Janaki, who has been singing for over six decades. The award is straight from Suseela's heart'. On the occasion, Suseela, said, it is my attempt to pay back to the industry. On instituting the award, I am planning to start a huge music library, which will house rare collections'.
