The director prepared a subject, which is said to be ready to create a new trend in action films. The stunts choreographed by action director Vijay would remain a part of the story and its movement. The camera work of Ratnavelu is so good that he would definitely bag the Nandi award for his work next year. Young Tarang Devisri Prasad is providing tunes and background score.

Munnabhais bail extended till January 18th
Destiny's child Sanjay Dutt has got a brief reprieve from a Terrorism and Disruptive Activities Acts Court today as it extended his bail till January 18th, 2007. As is well known Sanjay had been found guilty under Arms Act for possession of an AK 56 rifle and a 9 mm pistol in the 1993 Bomb blast case. He had been granted bail to surrender till December 19th. He had made an application on December 18th asking for time to surrender till the case ends or the final verdict is announced. He had cited several reasons why he should be showed leniency. Top most being the arrival of his daughter Trishala on December 23rd. Dutt's lawyers are making all efforts to ensure that the actor gets little or no punishment when the final verdict is announced. Sanjay on his part has been making all the right moves. Getting clicked with underprivileged children or performing hawan at Siddhivinayak Temple, he seems to be determined to put the ghost of 1993 bomb blast case firmly behind him. For now, he must be looking forward to a relaxed new year.
Box Office Analysis-January 04 , 2007
First weekend performance of latest release 'I See You' was the sole release of the week but as expected it didn't arrive with any kind of bang! In fact let alone the bang, there wasn't even a slight noise of any kind as it opened to a cold response all over. In fact the film's reception was so poor that 'I See You' hardly seemed like an A project with Arjun Rampal in the lead and foreign locales as its strong point. There were always apprehensions about the film taking anything more than a 50% opening but what came as an absolute shocker was near empty houses that welcomed the film. The film has hardly generated any kind of positive response [except for Arjun's performance] from any section of media while audience has hardly watched it to pass their judgment. A poor end to a very good year for Bollywood! Last week's movies It was first mentioned in this section that 'Bhagam Bhag' would comfortably out-gross Priyadarshan's biggest success 'Garam Masala'. With an excellent 21 crore + first week, it should be able to do so in 2 or at maximum 3 weeks as the film has proved to be a runaway success for Priyan, Akshay, Govinda and Paresh. Mumbai was tremendous with a 4 crore + total while Delhi that had been thirsting for a true blue masala entertainer for long due to an uneven release of 'Dhoom 2', lapped it up to contribute more than 2 crores. Delhi NCR came third with 1.5 crores in total while Ahmedabad was quite good too with 1 crore +. The film has registered good first week numbers across A, B and C centers, something which is a hall mark of a universal success. With 'I See You' hardly proving to be a competition and no worthwhile release before January 12th [when 'Guru', 'Risk' and 'Anwar' arrive], 'Bhagam Bhag' should prove to be a 'bhag'-away hit. Akshay Kumar has another success under his belt now while Govinda makes a successful comeback, with or without all of his scenes! From the past It was quite obvious that 'Kabul Express' won't necessarily take a fall similar to a regular commercial film. A bigger fall in collections was expected and hence after a 7 crore first week, the film slid down to 2.5 crores in collections. Still, no shame here for this extremely well directed film by Kabir Khan who has impressed one and all with his very first feature film and is now much sought after in 2007. The film is now a shade below 10 crores but should manage to drag along due to few more open weeks ahead. The film held on best in Mumbai where it registered 85 lakhs after a 2 crore opening week but is a near washout in Delhi where it garnered just about 3 lakhs. Expect the original DVDs and VCDs of the film to be out in a 3-4 weeks time. In it's second week, 'Aryan - The Unbreakable' has been completely broken and registered a measly 15 lakhs. At just about 1 crore, it is a disaster for Sohail Khan on the same lines as 'I - Proud To Be Indian'. Sneha Ullal, who started off with a hit in the form of 'Lucky - No Time For Love' now has a miss in 'Aryan - The Unbreakable'. 'Babul' crashed completely in its 3rd week and zero interest shown by anyone from the cast or crew to help in further promoting the film and keeping the audience's interest alive in watching it at theatres further proved that everyone had resigned to fate. With just 1 crore coming from the entire country, a 16.5 crore current total of 'Babul' is just not impressive. The beginning and end of year was just not happy for Amitabh Bachchan as he saw both 'Family - Ties Of Blood' and 'Baabul' performing poorly at the box office. With no new releases other than 'Bhagam Bhag' working universally at the box office, it was a great opportunity for 'Dhoom 2' to consolidate on its now-biggest-grosser status. Apart from a 21 crore week for 'Bhagam Bhag', 'D2' was the only film to register good numbers as it collected 4 crores in its 5th week. The film did quite well in both Mumbai [65 lakhs] and Delhi [57 lakhs]. Standing firm at 80 crores and still counting, it has set a huge benchmark for newer films to follow. Million dollar question is - will the record be broken in 2007? 'Vivah' is now not just 'a journey from engagement to marriage' but 'a dream journey' for everyone who has been associated with the film. With a nominal 20% fall and the 7th week registering more than 1.5 crore, 'Vivah' is now just a shade below 25 crores. The biggest surprise success of the year gone by. In the future 'Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamana' is the sole release of the coming week but it is not even getting a decent chain of theatres for itself. This Rekha-Mahima-Kim-Vasundhara starrer chic-flick is not coming at majority of multiplexes which tells the tale. No fireworks whatsoever are expected from the film.
Box Office Analysis-January 11 , 2007
First weekend performance of latest release There was absolutely no surprise when 'Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamaana' came on Friday and opened to miserable houses. A stuck project with minimal publicity and practically zero awareness, the film marks a disastrous beginning to 2007. The film doesn't stand a run beyond one week at the theaters. There was another small time film called 'Game' [starring Sameer Dharmadhikari, Sherlyn Chopra] that released at select theatres but met with a similar fate at the box office on its opening weekend. Last week's movies 'I See You' came as a dampener at the very end of a highly successful 2006. If the opening was miserable, the following days too didn't see any footfalls to cheer about. Releasing at select theatres across the country, the film couldn't even cross 1 crore mark as it wrapped up its first week at a shade above 75 lakhs. In an age when a solitary B center with decent credentials can generate as much revenue in an opening week, it was highly disappointing to see Arjun Rampal's debut production sinking without a trace. Both Mumbai and Pune came up with approximate 11.5 lakhs while Delhi couldn't even cross 10 lakhs. One feels sorry for the leading actress Vipasha who was off the press before the film's release and now is hardly talked about due to massive blow taken by the film at the box office. From the past 'Bhagam Bhag' is the sole movie that is running across India with decent collections to show. After a 21 crore first week, the film took a little less than 50% fall to end at 12 crores. This has proved that the film has held itself well due to sheer appreciation from the paying public. Never mind the critics backlash it got on it's release; just like 'Malamaal Weekly', 'Bhagam Bhag's is yet another audience hit for director Priyadarshan. Standing at 33 crores, the film is now hit at the box office and marks a positive comeback for Govinda. Meanwhile Akshay Kumar has only consolidated his superstar position with the film doing very good business in A centers like Mumbai [around 2.5 crores] & Delhi [1.25 crores] and even other B and C centers. Suniel Shetty now has reasons to smile since he has first hit to his credit as a producer after the downfall of 'Khel' and 'Rakht'. With zero competition from the new releases, 'Kabul Express' held on well in the 3rd week by dropping less than 50% from the second week. The film collected around 1.5 crores and has now crossed 11 crores to be categorized as an average success. The film's biggest success zone is Mumbai from where it generated more than 50 lakhs. On the other hand Delhi surprised as it moved up from 3 lakhs to around 7 lakhs. One wonders if the collections revealed from the city last week were accurate and came from all the theatres. Another surprise that is baffling many is that while Arshad Warsi was clearly the film's lead with John in a supporting role, it is being assumed/termed otherwise in numerous sections of media. Not fair! With even Salman Khan coming and accepting 'Baabul' to be an all India flop, there is absolutely no debate left about the film's performance at the Indian box office. The film continued to sink to lower depths as it collected just about 65 lakhs in it's 4th week. After barely crossing 17 crores, the film should be only dealing in a few lakhs or so to end below 17.5 crores. A rare failure for a film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee together in principal roles. The film may just about manage to do well on the satellite medium once it is premiered on the small screen. Meanwhile 'Dhoom 2' continued to add to its tally with more than 2.5 crores being added to its 80 crore total of last week. At 82 crores, the film should manage to touch 85 crore mark in its final run. In fact the film was most consistent at Mumbai [50 lakhs] and Delhi [45 lakhs] where it slid down just marginally from 65 lakhs and 57 lakhs respectively. It is 50 days for Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao as their 'Vivah' showed a jump from its 6th week total of 1.5 crore to 1.8 crores. A rare happening in the world of Hindi cinema, especially in today's market. At 25 crores, the film is a Superhit all over the country. Now would that prompt Sooraj Barjatya to continue making family films for his banner or would he be diversifying into different genres? As a film lover, one would want him to opt for the latter and surprise the audience! In the future First big release for 2007 comes in the form of 'Guru' and all eyes are set on the film to see if it turns out to be a worthy follow-up to many a superhit films that 2006 has given to audience. Mani Ratnam may not have tasted success at Hindi movies box office but while 'Dil Se' is now almost considered as a classic with re-runs on satellite medium and 'Yuva' being a case study for cinema students, the tables have turned around for the director! This proves that his films were probably way ahead of their times but boasted of high quality nevertheless. If one looks from sheer commercial point of view, 'Guru' seems to be a much more comfortable box office bet than the two aforementioned films. The delay has only helped in film's publicity picking up in a big way and the star power and hit music should ensure that film takes a good 70-80% opening. Other release of the week is 'Anwar' and though its postponement from December to January has helped in creating awareness about it, it still is not the kind of film that many would love to flock on the day of its release. The film looks promising with good performances and story telling but a dark/disturbing theme coupled with lack of star factor would go against a safe opening.
