Kaalai on the fast track

Silambarasan's Kaalai is fast shaping up. The movie produced by NIC Arts Chakravarthy and directed by Thimiru fame Tharun Gopi. Vedika, after a good outing in Muni, plays Simbhu's lady love in the movie while Sangeetha plays a pivotal role in the film. The latest buzz is that the crew of Kaalai would hop to Russia soon to shoot a couple of song sequences. Russia is turning out to be a favorite destination for Tamil directors. Recently cinematographer-director Jeeva had been with his Dhaam Dhoom crew to shoot a major portion of the movie in Russia and few scenes in Periyar was also shot in Russia. Kaalai also features yesteryear heroine Seema in a prominent role.

Kaalai to lock horns with competition

Producer NIC Arts Chakravarthy is back with vigor. He had produced a host of films starring Ajith in the lead role. Now he is busy producing Kaalai staring Silambarasan. The shooting for the movie is on. Meanwhile, the buzz is Chakravarathy is planning to produce a couple of more films before this year-end. S J Suryah will direct besides playing a lead role for a movie, while Dhanush will be part of his next project. Buzz is that Venkat Prabhu, who wielded the megaphone for Chennai 600028 will direct the movie. Kaalai is expected for release this Deepavali.

Sneha in 'Murattu Kaalai'

Sneha has been assigned to do the role enacted by Rathi in the remake of the yesteryear hit 'Murattu Kaalai'. Kalaignar TV will co-produce this Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's grandson, Gunanidhi's maiden production venture starring actor-director Sundar C in the lead role. The title of the film has not yet been announced. 'Murattu Kaalai' was released in 1980. Suman plays the baddie enacted by Jai Shankar and Vivek plays Suralirajan's part. The film would be directed by Selvabharathy. Sneha has been roped in to the Rathi's role. Buzz is that a glamour actress would play the character played by Sumalatha. Meanwhile Sneha is shooting for a film that is inspired by Vijayashanthi's Vyjayanti IPS. She dons the khakhi for the first time in her acting career.

Kalaignar Karunanidhi, AR Rahman at an awards show

The CavinKare Ability awards was presented amidst heavy security and thronging crowds at Chennai Trade Centre recently. The special guests of the evening included the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Kalaignar Karunanidhi, music director-singer AR Rahman, poet and activist Kanimozhi, women's activist Mohini Giri, CK Ranganathan, the Chairman cum MD of CavinKare and Jayashree Ravindran, the editor of Ability magazine. The awards were presented to those who got the better of their physical handicaps with sheer determination and courage. Our honorable CM, while speaking on the occasion, said that he was deeply moved and added that there are lakhs of others who need to be acknowledged and encouraged. The grand finale of the evening was a stunning piano recital by AR Rahman.

Kalaimamani awards announced

The state government has announced Kalaimamani awards Thursday. Popular film personalities including Silambarasan, Vishal, Jayam Ravi, Jeeva, Vineeth, Venu Aravindh, Kanja Karupu, Trisha, Navya Nair, Deepa Venkat, Aarthy and CID Sakunthala have been selected to receive the awards. Also lyricists Pa Vijay, Kabilan, Na Muthukumar and music composer Vidyasagar have been chosen for the honor. The list also includes names like playback singers Thippu, Madhu Balakrishnan and Bombay Jayashree, cinematographer Paneerselvam. A thrilled Trisha says,'I thank the State government for bestowing the rare honor on me. I deem it a privilege to win the highest award from the State government'. Thanking director Ameer for giving him a break in Ram, Kanja Karuppu, says, 'But for Ameer I would have been no where. It is a happy occasion for me'. Jeeva, currently shooting for Rameshwaram, says, ''I thank the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for bestowing the title on me. It is a tonic for me to do my job well'.

Kalaignar TV officially launched

The Kalaignar TV was officially launched on Vinayaka Chathurthy day (Saturday). The much-awaited television channel came into being on the festive day and it has lined up a series of programmes including tete-a-te with who's who of Tamil cinema including Kamal Haasan and Ilayaraja. Interestingly, the channel beams blockbuster Tamil movies including Mozhi, Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi, Periyar and Ayudha Ezhuthu. Not far behind is Sun TV lined biggies like Thimiru starring Vishal. Jaya TV, another prominent channel beams Sundar C's Thalainagaram. The launch of the new channel has led to intense competition among the satellite channels and sure to provide a treat for movie-buffs. The Kalaignar TV has caught a host of prominent serial production houses that includes Crazy Mohan, AVM, Kavithalaya, Annamalai Cine Creations and the mega-serial features big names like Kushboo, Devayani among others.
