More news →'Kabhi Alvidaa...' set for monsoon release
Mumbai, April 4 (IANS) The wait for this year's most eagerly anticipated film 'Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna' is over as director Karan Johar has decided to release it in August instead of during Diwali. As Amitabh Bachchan, who plays an important role in the film, is back under the arc lights after a surgery, the remaining portion of 'Kabhi Alvidaa...' ('KANK') is expected to be complete shortly and Johar has zeroed in on the date for release. 'KANK' is to hit the screens on either Aug 4 or 11. 'It can be either of the two Fridays,' Johar, who is currently neck-deep in post-production and recovering from a severe bout of laryngitis, told us. This would be the first Johar film that won't be released on Diwali. 'We can't afford any delays. The film has gone way beyond budget. I can't reveal the figure. But it's astronomical. And then on top of that, there are all these rumours about what I have made. 'People expect this Karan Johar film to be a shocker. To some extent they will be shocked. I have gone into a different area of cinema and human relationships this time,' said Johar. 'It takes me back to a state of complete honesty. I have done exactly what I want to do in 'KANK' without caring about box office results. To that extent 'KANK' is my most uncompromising film since 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'.' The Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preita Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan quadrangle, shot almost entirely in New York, goes into areas that might jolt audiences. 'How much so we shall soon know,' said Johar as he awaits his D-day.
Phir Kabhi Kabhi
This is the most exciting news in recent times. There is this entire bandwagon of producers and directors remaking old classics- from Farhan Akhtar to Rituparno Ghosh- from Don to Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam. But spring just seems to have come in. Yash Chopra has decided to remake his classic hit of the 70's Kabhi Kabhi. The film was originally made with Amitabh, Rakhi, Rishi, Shashi, Neetu and Waheeda in the lead. This time around, Yash Chopra's favorite hero of our times, Shah Rukh Khan will step into poet Amitabh's shoes. Akshay Kumar will essay Shashi Kapoor's role. The film is expected to be a little different from the original. It will not be a frame-to-frame remake. It will have a contemporary touch to it. The approach and feel of the film will be very modern. Of course we forgot, Priety Zinta would essay Rakhi's role. The USP of the film may be the fact that one can see SRK and Akshay Kumar together on screen. The combination might just work wonders at the box office. Things are still not on paper. So there might be slight changes here and there. But the good news is that spring season of remakes is here.
2 films titled 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna'
Now here is a classic example of coincidence. Two films, one of Karan Johar starring SRK and other of Biswaroop Roy share the same title 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna'. Director Biswaroop Roy's movie is produced by Ajit Singh and has singer Kumar Sanu for the songs. It is a musical tribute to encourage the audience to nurture a positive attitude and believe in one's dreams. Roy feels that positive attitude and hard work is the key to success. Roy also clears it out that they had already registered the title in 2005 and the same name thing is just a mere coincidence.
RED HOT - Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna teaser
While the publicity of 'Fanaa' has failed to pick up inspite of just a day remaining for its release and talkie promos of 'Krrish' being eagerly awaited after all the songs'n'dances, the next biggie [which is perhaps the biggest release of the year] in line is 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' that arrives on August 11. Here we present a brief teaser of this keenly awaited film by Karan Johar: "KANK is a saga of designer infidelity by Karan Johar. And yes, the candy floss quotient is still high inspite of a 'different' genre adapted by the film maker. The film has Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee discover the AGONY and ECSTACY of an extra marital passion in the brightly lit, big city of New York." The film boasts of an impressive crew that ranges from music composers Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, art director Sharmishta Roy and costume designer Manish Malhotra. With a starcast that also comprises of father-son pair of Amitabh Bachchan/Abhishek Bachchan along with Preity Zinta, KANK is undoubtedly year's most awaited film.
Tulip/Ashmit pair up in 'reincarnation' film - KABHI KAHIN
After number of superhit albums like 'Kashish Mix', Kash Aazma Le', 'Yadein' and many more, R-Vision is coming out with its new venture that is a feature film 'Kabhi Kahin'. "Kabhi Kahin' is being directed by Amol Shetge who has directed 'Gunaah', 'Rain' and lots of Marathi Films for which he has received awards also. The main starcast of the film comprises of Ashmit Patel, Tulip Joshi, Sachin Khedekar, Sanjay Narvekar and Anubhav Anand. Presently the shooting of the film is going on at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan in the debris of Kuldhara and Khaba. When asked about the film, Amol Shetge says, 'The film has a very unique and interesting storyline. Despite a complete romantic film it's a story of some friends with thrill, action and suspense as well. Based on the concept of reincarnation the treatment of the film is like it will maintain the curiosity and interest of the audience and they will eagerly wait for the next scene'. When asked about the location of the film in the debris of the Jaisalmer Amol responds, 'India is full of art, nature, elegance and there are lots of beautiful sights here. Even though many directors choose foreign locations for their film. This tradition is not good for our country. And when I got the location for my film in Jaisalmer, then what is the need to go outside?" He added, "I believe that to bring reality in our films we should choose the locations near to nature. It was my dream to shoot in the exotic locations of Rajasthan. And when R-Vision's proposal of 'Kabhi Kahin' came to me, I immediately decided to shoot this film in Rajasthan.' On the importance of beauty of actress in the film with the striking location, which one is more important for the success of the film, producer Ravindra Singh says, 'Beauty lies in the eyes of the person. In any film beauty has its own role to play either it's in the way of beautiful actress or beautiful location. Both the things are equally important for the success of the film.' As Kabhi Kahin is a romantic film, Ravindra Singh is not in the mood for any kind of compromise for the music. According to Ravindra Singh, 'With the story, we are giving much importance on the music also. We have done a lot of hard work on the melody of the songs. Moksh Group and Raes Bartiya have done a marvelous job on the lyrics written by Anwar Sagar. The songs of the film are easy on ear, as music is the USP of the film. With the melodious voice of Shreya Ghoshal and Madhushri, I have also given my voice in the songs.'
‘Rakta Charitra’ is not for people who like ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, known for his controversial comments, again spoke his mind when he said that his forthcoming film “Rakta Charitra” was not for people who are fond of Karan Johar’s family drama “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”. Varma and Johar have often locked horns on various subjects on social networking sites and in front of the media and Varma didn’t lose an opportunity to do the same at an event organised here, where the director showed 30 minutes of footage of “Rakta Charitra” to the media. “I wanted to give a small introduction to the film and that was the purpose of showing this footage to a certain section of the people,” Varma told reporters here. “I have done films of this genre before. But the difference in ‘Rakta Charitra’ or let’s say in ‘Company’ is that first, the latter has a urban setup and the second ‘Company’ is different in terms of the characters and the way it has been shot. “‘Rakta Charitra’ deals with very emotionally volatile people and is set in a rural atmosphere. It is a violent film. Having said that, violence doesn’t come from a psychopath. It comes from a certain necessity. It comes from a struggle, certain have nots between communities, families and probably a struggle for power,” he added. The film is a trilingual made in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil. It is based on the life of Paritala Ravi, a slain factionist and political leader from Andhra Pradesh. The film stars Vivek Oberoi, Surya and Shatrughan Sinha in pivotal roles and is scheduled to be released Oct 22. “In terms of the pitch of the film. I just want to quote an incident that happened with Hollywood filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. “When he showed his first film ‘Pulp Fiction’ to people, he apparently went on stage and asked the people that did any one of them like the ‘Rain Man’. About 30-40 people raised their hands. He told those people to leave because he said that this film was not for them,” said Varma. “So this film ‘Rakta Charitra’ is not for the people who like ‘Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham’.”
