Winning accolades for her decent portrayals as heroines is Devayani. She is a popular name in every household today. His role as Abhi in the mega serial Kolangal on a prominent television channel has won her name and fame. Celebrating her birthday on Thursday, Devayani has done films in Bengali, Malayalam, Hindi and Telugu besides Tamil. She made her debut with Thotasinungi. But Devayani managed to make it big with Kadhal Kottai opposite Ajith. The movie was successful in establishing Devayani as the most successful actress in South Indian Cinema. Winner of Tamilnadu Government's Best Actress award for Kadhal Kottai and Surya Vamsam, she married director Rajakumaran. She was the leading lady in Rajakumaran's films Nee Varuvai Ena, Vinnukum Mannukum and Kadhaludan. Some of her prominent films include Bhaarathi, Bheeshmar, Ennammaa Kannu, Friends, Giri, Kaadhaludan, Kaathali, Kummipattu, Nilave Mugam Kaattu , Ninaikkaadha Naalillai, Ninaiththaen Vanthaai, Oruvan, Paattaali, Poonthottam, Samasthanam, Sema Ragalai, Senthalam Poovae, Senthooram, Sivasakthi, Sornamugi, Thenali, Vallarasu among others. Tamil is the title
With the State government announcing tax exemption for movies titled in Tamil, several production houses and directors immediately opted for Tamil titles to avail the benefit. Going a step further, some directors even chose to name their films after 'Tamil.' Vijay's forthcoming movie to be directed by Bharathan has been titled Azhagiya Tamil Magan Ivan. Meanwhile Jeeva's movie to be directed by a debutant Ram is named Tamil M.A. Director Rajakumaran, (husband of actor Devayani), will be commencing his next directorial venture early next month. To be produced by Devayani, the film would feature Rajakumaran himself in the lead role. The movie is titled Thirumathi Tamil. Rajakumaran's last directorial venture was Kadhaludan which starred Murali and Devayani in the lead roles.
