Abdul Kalam gave a Sivaji Dream for Vikram

The consummate actor Chiyaan Vikram is one of the few fortunate actors to have received his National Award for Best Actor for the film ‘Anniyan’ from the revered hands of the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Vikram who was deeply saddened by the passing away of the great man has shared that when he had an opportunity to meet him along with his family Dr. Kalam told him that he stopped watching films a long time back and the only actor he admired was Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan. Kalam who believed in the power of dreams blessed Vikram and also gave him a dream to become the next Sivaji Ganesan.

When Abdul Kalam asked Vivek to deliver a speech!

Although many actors are handling the mic for political meetings but comedian Vivek is going to wield the mic for a different purpose. Just a few days ago former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was invited by the students of Indian Institute of Sciences (IIS), to deliver a speech on the topic My Contribution to the society. But now the President turned busy with his prior assignments so is he unable to grace the event. But to our surprise APJ Abdul Kalam has proposed another person in his place to deliver the speech. Any guesses on who it was? Of course it’s our very own actor Vivek! Abdul Kalam has conveyed to the students of IIS that the actor will be delivering the speech of him (the President) on that particular topic. When Vivek heard about this he was thrilled and excited that the President himself has referred him to deliver the speech. This is the very first that a person from non sciences background is going to deliver the speech at IIS campus as regular it is done by the people from sciences. The speech is going to take place on April 14th, 2011 at IIS Bangalore campus. It’s not only that the students have requested Vivek to give away the speech in Tamil as many students attending the conference are Tamil. The speech is going to be remembered by the students for a very longtime as anything delivered with the flavor of comedy is certain to make a great impact in the minds of the students. Our heartfelt congratulations Vivek sir, we are sure that your will do a great job on delivering the speech about your contribution to the society!

Feels privileged to work with Kalam, says actor Vivek

Tamil actor-comedian Vivek, who was on a sabbatical for nearly two years, was working in close association with former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on the Green Kalam Project - an awareness drive on tree planting. He says the experience was indeed an honour. "He chose me as the face of his campaign over so many others. He could have chosen anybody in the industry, but he chose me and I couldn't say 'no' come what may. It was a privilege I couldn't let go of," Vivek said. "As part of the project, I was asked to plant 10 lakh saplings in Tamil Nadu. The number was raised to 1 crore after I had achieved the first goal. A lot of time and effort had gone into the campaign and therefore I couldn't take out time for films," he added. He is happy that he made best use of his sabbatical. "There is no feeling of regret spending time on the campaign. I think working closely with Kalam made me realise how simple he is in life. I was happy I have something to be proud of even on my sabbatical," he said. Known for his work in films such as "Run", "Saamy" and "Perazhagan", Vivek made a strong comeback in recently released Tamil action-drama "Singam 2". Does he feel the industry has become competitive? "It has always been competitive. South Indian films have most number of comedians and to see them all on screen at times, is unrealistic. I'm happy that the industry has room for so many of us," said Vivek. He is currently busy shooting for "Naan Than Bala" and "Killadi" and "Padam Pesum".
