OMG! MANI RATNAM TO BREAK HIS 3 DECADE LONG TREND?

Mani Ratnam is someone who believes that there is so much of scenic beauty in India and he always prefers to can his films here unless otherwise, his script demands an overseas shoot. Only on two occasions earlier, he has gone abroad to shoot and on both instances, the story demanded it.   He had gone to Sri Lanka for Kannathil Muthamittal and for his biography on Dhirubhai Ambani, he had to shoot a few portions in Istanbul.   Now the latest rumors doing the rounds is that for Kaatru Veliyidai, Mani Ratnam would apparently be heading to Europe for the first time for a song sequence. Though we are still waiting for a confirmation from the team regarding this, the chances for this to happen look weak unless the story really demands it.   We know that the story has a strong connection to Leh, Ladakh and there were a few shooting spot stills that had snow backdrop. To match the snow backdrop, perhaps, they could head to places like Switzerland. But a dream song sequence in Europe is something that does not sound like Mani Ratnam’s style. Let’s wait and see.

Mani Ratnam's next titled as Kaatru Veliyidai with Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari as leads

Director Mani Ratnam has begun his next film with Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari as the leads. RJ Balaji is also on board this flick which is produced by Madras Talkies and will be distributed by Sri Thenandal Films. It is said that Karthi will be essaying the role of a pilot in the film. AR Rahman scores music, Ravi Varman heads the cinematography department, Sreekar Prasad handles the cuts and Vairamuthu pens the lyrics for this venture which begins its shooting in Ooty from today, the 7th July. . The unit has released its first look with the title Kaatru Veliyidai, a popular refrain from Maha Kavi Bharathi’s poetry, used in Veera Pandiya Kattabomman years ago. The phrase was also heard in Theera Ula song from his last film OK Kanmani. Incidentally, one of Mani Ratnam’s earlier films was titled as Kannathil Muthamittal, again, a phrase from Bharathi’s. The first look poster oozes youthfulness and love all over with Karthi giving his best romantic looks with a mischievous glint in his eyes with heroine Aditi appearing to have been completely smitten by Karthi’s charm. Looks like one more romantic flick in the offing.

Rajini made me realize; says Chakravarthy

Popular actor Chakravarthy says “Initially I believed that commercial cinema was not my cup of tea. But I had to overhaul my views after I met Superstar Rajinikanth.” He further adds “Rajini made me realise that a commercial movie is equally challenging to conceive and make. Now I have great respect for this genre too and this is the reason behind acting in Kacheri Aarambam.” “My earlier Tamil movies including ‘Kannathil Muthamittal’ and ‘Sarvam’ showcased me differently. But Kacheri… was a unique experience. I felt great doing the film.” says Chakravarthy. Chakri reveals a secret by saying, “Coming to the RGV School, I have developed a passion for a different kind of cinema. So when director Thiraivannan approached me for Kacheri… I did hesitate a little. But in a couple of days, I was taken in by the script and the energy of the filmmaker.”

Sathyaraj plays dad for Madhavan

Known for making movies which are set in a rural milieu, contained with the elements of pragmatism, Thankar Bachchan's next directorial venture will have two smart actors of Tamil cinema. Satyaraj, with his first-rate movies like 'Vedham Pudhidhu', 'Poovizhi Vaasalile' and Madhavan with his distinctly ahead movies like 'Kannathil Muthamittal', 'Ayutha ezhuthu', 'Rang de basanti' are undoubtedly high-grade preferences of Thankar Bachchaan. Satyaraj, who shared an excelled rapport with Thankar and rendered one of the best performances in films he has done hitherto in 'Onbathu Roobai nottu', was immediately impressed by the script and gave his nod in agreement to play Madhavan's father. Madhavan's zeal for quality movies is well-known and is more noticeable from the breed of movies he opts to feature in. In this Thankar's movie, which is being buzzed to be produced by Ayngaran International, Madhavan plays a down-to-earth, magnanimous, realistic character. The filming is expected to commence soon.
