More news →“To win awards, you need to perform for half the money at award nights” – Akshay Kumar
While Akshay Kumar has entertained one and all with his comic talent, the actor has also won tremendous acclaim from both the critics and audience for his serious, topical films like Baby, Special 26, Khakee, and Airlift. However, neither the actor nor those films have received any awards at any of the popular Bollywood award functions held every year. When quizzed about the same at a recent interview, Akshay simply said, “To win awards, you need to perform for half the money at award nights. That is the simple funda to win awards in Bollywood. It is not that I don't get the awards; it is just that the reality of awards in India is completely different.” However, when asked about where he categorizes the National Awards in this distasteful scenario, and why Baby didn’t win any National Awards, the actor spoke with pride about the greatest cinematic honor in the country: “I think National Awards are the only credible award in India. I think, if Baby was not nominated at the National Awards, it must not have been worth it.” Wow…Akshay shows once again why he’s one Bollywood actor who’s not known to mince words, and never shies away from calling a spade a spade.
'Krazzy 4' in deep trouble
Can you believe it? Four music tracks including the title track of 'Krazzy 4' are stolen from a jingle. Well that's what Ram Sampath is saying. Ram, a composer of advertisement jingles has to his credit the music soundtracks of the super hit 'Khakee' and 'Let's Talk' too. With the esteemed advertising award 'Abby' in his kitty, it is also not possible to completely do away with his allegations as a mere act to bring home some easy publicity. In a petition submitted before the court, Ram claims that title track and the remix versions are copies of his Sony Ericsson mobile ad jingle, which came out in 2007. He also has demanded a compensation of Rs 2 crores to the damages caused by the Roshan family. Now Rakesh Roshan, Rajesh Roshan, their production house Filmkraft productions and Super Cassettes industries will have to give explanations to clear the charges. Time will bring out the truth and we hope the title track and its versions will not bite the dust.
"If SOAL isn't a superhit, it would be 2007's biggest surprise"
Biggies have just started arriving this summer and though there are at least a dozen of them before the year ends, for the moment all eyes are set on SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA. With its high profile starcast boasting of names like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Suneil Shetty, Vivek Oberoi and Tusshar Kapoor, the film is currently the hottest in the trade circles. Says a leading film distributor on condition of anonymity, "SOAL has all in it that makes for a super hit film. Think about the hysteria that Abhishek Bachchan generates today just on his own. And with Sanjay Dutt towering the cast along with Big B, it is surely going to be a 'taali-maar' experience for both multiplex and single screen crowds. Tusshar has a habit of throwing surprises time and again. Remember KHAKEE? And finally Viveik is looking good as he seems to be wearing the same attitude and mannerisms from his COMPANY days. Regarding Suneil, he has never ever disappointed in a multi starrer." He adds, "All this and more makes me so comfortable about the film's fortunes. Believe me, SOAL would take a huge opening weekend for sure and since I am told that the final product is turning out to be highly exciting too, the film would surely sustain well. Leave aside some other so-called biggies arriving this summer, but all said and done, God forbid, if SOAL isn't a superhit, it would count as the biggest disappointment of 2007 so far."
Sexy Sam Rocks at 64
Sexy Sam turns 64 today. And the euphoria doesn't seem to be dimming amongst his multitudinous fans all over the world. Even though he is not celebrating his birthday today due to the ill health of his mother Teji Bachchan (89), the deluge of fans still continue to converge outside his colossal bungalow 'Jalsa' since morning today. These fans brought cards gifts from all over India (Many of them have been coming every year for the last several years). Apart from this there have been reports of people worshipping his photographs and praying for his long life. The popularity of Big B continues to soar though he himself in his typical self-effacing style appears to be embarrassed by the hullabaloo around a 'mere birthday' as he himself says. Amitabh Bachchan is one of the biggest mascots of India. He is known the world over, not only amongst a surfeit of Asians, but even amongst foreigners ranging from Britishers, Americans, Dutch, Germans, Kenyans, Indonesians, Malaysians to name a very few. His appeal spreads over three generations. His films like 'Deewar', 'Sholay', 'Amar Akbar Anthony', 'Lawaris', 'Abhimaan', 'Trishul', 'Namak Halal', 'Satte Pe Satte', 'Dostana', 'Parwana', 'Anand', 'Zanjeer', 'Coolie' and 'Agnipath' have a timeless appeal. Then there was a time period when he went through a lean period. The fiasco of his firm ABCL, the debt that followed, five year break from films and an image crisis as the public didn't accept his grown-up-man romancing-nubile-nymphets feature in films like 'Lal Badshah' and 'Chote Miya Bade Miyan'. Amitabh Bachchan weathered that storm with amazing dignity and composure. And then 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' happened in his life. The country discovered its compassionate quiz master with impeccable Hindi and ageless mannerisms. Big B entered his best phase thereafter. Although he calls himself a character artiste, yet today his name spells class and success. Films like 'Black', 'Khakee', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum', 'Dev', 'Sarkar', 'Bunty Aur Babli', 'Baaghbaan', 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' and 'Mohabbatein' re-established him like never before. He is seen promoting all sorts of products on the small screen ranging from hajmola, suiting shirtings, cars, pens, washing powder, batteries, real estate etc. And his list of forthcoming films is amazing too: 'Cheeni Kum', 'Eklavya', 'Bhootnath', 'Baabul', Johnie Walker', 'God Tussi Great Ho' etc. The biggest recent news related with Bachchan is his persona as Gabbar Singh in Ram Gopal Verma's forthcoming 'Ram Gopal Verma Ke Sholay'. In other words Sexy Sam is Rocking. MusicMazaa wishes Amitabh Bachchan heartiest birthday wishes and here's hoping that he continues to dazzle the world of cinema with his stellar performances.
Big B v/s Big B this August
It is going to be Amitabh Bachchan v/s Amitabh Bachchan this August as two of his films get set for a release within a fortnight. First to come would be the biggest film of the year, 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna', that arrives on August 11. There are no questions about the box office outcome of this mega movie by Karan Johar that looks like a sure shot blockbuster. The same though cannot be said about 'Zamaanat' that releases a week after i.e. August 18. A long-in-the-making film by S. Ramanathan, it is finally gearing up to see the light of the day with film's publicity beginning again! Last year too, a similar scenario was witnessed when Paheli and Sarkar were released on two consecutive Fridays. Before that in 2004, Big B had 'Dev', 'Lakshya' and 'Deewar-Let's Bring Our Heroes Home', which released on 11th, 18th and 25th June respectively. The closest call was witnessed in the same year when 'Aetbaar' and 'Khakee' released on the same day i.e. 23rd January!
