The megastar's character in Thoppil Joppan has no similarities with Kottayam Kunjachan. Joppan is a very interesting character, which has a genuine humour touch. It is the humour element and realistic narrative style, which attracted Mammootty the most. He agreed to do the project without a second thought. Interestingly, Mammootty is playing a middle-aged planter who hails from Thopramkudy, of Idukki district. He is using the Idukki slang for his role, which is a very normal character with no larger-than-life elements. The movie, which marks the comeback of director Johny Antony, stars Mamtha Mohandas and Andrea Jeremiah in the female leads. Thoppil Joppan is produced by Noushad Alathoor for Grande Productions.
