The music of Hrithik Roshan’s eagerly awaited film “Kites” has been launched and this is the first time a movie album has premiered on a radio channel. “I think, this is for the first time there is a music premiere happening on a radio channel, which is great. I am hoping for some good feedback,” Hrithik told reporters at the Radio Mirch studio here Thursday. There has been a lot of buzz about the film and finally the promotion has started. Asked how different the promotions will be from other movies, Hrithik said: “I am not the marketing guy, so I am clueless. I am just an actor and am happy doing acting. I don’t think on those terms. “They (marketing team) must be doing something to promote the film. They will tell me what to do and I will do whatever I can do.” Directed by Anurag Basu, “Kites” will be released in both Hindi and English. The film is about two lovers and their thrilling journey filled with precious moments and unexpected betrayal. Mexican actress Barbara Mori, who plays Hrithik’s love interest in the movie, is expected to come down for the promotion activities of the movie set for a May 21 release. “Yes, I think she will be coming down on the 20th of next month and help in promoting the film,” said Hrithik. Kangana Ranaut also features in the movie, but she has not been highlighted so far. “I really am not the person who decides on promotion and marketing. The film is a love story between Barbara and me. The idea to project the first promos of the film comes from the director’s vision, what he wants to tell the audiences and that’s how the promos are made,” said Hrithik. Asked whether he has flown kites, Hrithik said: “Yes, I remember papa used to teach me. We used to live on the 13th floor of a building… I was too small and I used to wonder that the kites seems so light but when it’s flying, it’s really hard to hold the ‘manja’ (string). I remember that really clearly because I could not hold it and it used to keep flying away from my hand.”
After ‘Kites Hollywood editor for Teen Patti
First it was Anurag Basu’s “Kites” that had Brett Ratner from Hollywood to put together the material. Now director Leena Yadav has roped in Oscar winning editor Hughes Winborne to edit her film “Teen Patti”, which is releasing Friday. Winborne, who has edited Will Smith starrer “In Pursuit Of Happyness” and “Seven Pounds” and also won an Oscar for his editing in Paul Haggis’s “Crash”, has ‘re-edited’ “Teen Patti”, which was first edited by Kaushik Das. “We needed that international sensibility to be placed on the footage. We sent a subtitled print to Hughes. But he soon did away with the subtitles. He got all the Hindi jokes and punchlines,” Yadav said. Why was it felt that a Hollywood editor would be able to give “Teen Patti” the global cut? “It’s really about getting the rhythm right. The Western audience has a different pace for movie viewing. That pace worked beautifully in my film,” said Yadav. An international editor was not all that “Teen Patti” got from abroad. The film also imported a stunt coordinator. The German stunt director Armin Sauer, who has worked with global biggies like Matt Damon in “The Bourne Supremacy” and Ralph Fiennes in “The Constant Gardener”, had been called to supervise the stunts. Yadav let go of all stops and made sure she pulled the punches as hard as Armin. “These stunts that Mr. Bachchan has performed are very real, very raw. Not for a second was I allowed to feel like a woman on the sets. Agreed there were a lot of men on the set and two intimidating stalwarts like Mr Amitabh Bachchan and Sir Ben Kingsley. But any director regardless of gender would have fely equally intimidated by these two stalwarts.” It’s generally said that female directors have a much tougher time directing a film than their male counterparts. Yadav says she has never had to suffer because of her gender. “Not once did I feel I was disadvantaged by my gender. On the sets, my authority was never questioned. Whether it was legends like Mr. Bachchan and Sir Ben or the newcomers, they all surrendered to my vision,” she said.
Bobby walks out of 'Kites'
The flight of the Kites was disrupted by a mere difference of opinion that blew out of proportion. The shooting of the highly awaited movie of Hrithik Roshan titled as 'Kites' which is under production suffered a setback as the director of photography walked out of the project. Cinematographer Bobby Singh got offended and left the sets as Rakesh Roshan shouted at him in front of all the crew members. 'Kites' is being directed by the critically acclaimed director Anurag Basu and Bobby Singh who has been part of his team for a long time has worked with the director in 'Metro', 'Who Lamhe' and 'Gangster'. Anurag always gives Bobby complete freedom while working and it seems that Rakesh Roshan was trying to implement his own ideas regarding the camera angles and lighting from the day one of the shooting. The final nail was fixed as Roshan Sr. got angry when Bobby did not agree with him on going for a shot with a particular camera angle. Rakesh Roshan was unyielding and insisted on the angle of his choice while Bobby also kept his opinion firm without compromising.
