Lakshmi Rai - A Rai of hope

Lakshmi Rai, the girl from Belgaum, is pinning lots of hopes on her forthcoming film Dharmapuri opposite Vijayakanth and directed by Perarasu. Expressing joy of being part of a big venture, Lakshmi Rai, says, 'I am sure the movie will be a success. The songs are good, and so is the script. Moreover, it involves a big director and a popular production house. So I am expecting good results. Also, acting with an experienced actor like Vijayakanth was a great learning experience for me.' Perarasu had approached few popular actresses to be part of the movie initially. However they had rejected and hence the baton was passed to Lakshmi Rai. 'I don't know why they refused it. Vijayakanth is a popular hero and acting with him is a good way of learning the nuances, so I took up the offer.' Asked whether she would continue to do glamour roles, the actress says, 'glamour is integral part of being an actress. I hope Dharmapuri clicks and helps me continue my good run in the industry'.

Lakshmi Rai comes down with fatigue

Actress Lakshmi Rai was rushed to a private hospital in Chennai recently. Busy shooting for two movies Dhaam Dhoom in Tamil and Rock N Roll opposite Mohanlal in Malayalam simultaneously, she was admitted to a hospital after she complained of fatigue. The shooting for both films are taking place in Chennai and Lakshmi Rai has been acting in both films all around the clock. This over work what has resulted in her fatigue and she was advised immediate rest. After thorough checkup, the actress resumed shooting for the movies on Thursday.

Lakshmi Rai dubs for her role

Following Asin and Sneha, another heroine, whose mother tongue is not Tamil, has decided to dub for her roles. The girl, who made her entry in Tamil films with 'Karka Kasadara' hasn't got accustomed with Tamil even after staying in Chennai for two and half years. The 'Dhaam Dhoom' unit, however, has told her to dub for her role in the film. She has donned the role of a Tamil girl who has settled in Russia. So her 'Childlike' rendition of Tamil would go with the role, the team believes. Jayam Ravi, the hero of the film, goes to Russia on a five day tour and gets into trouble. Since his English or Tamil are not useful in Russia, he is not able to tell anybody about his problem. He meets Lakshmi Rai, who is a lawyer in Russia. She helps him get out of the trouble. In the process, you know what happens between them. 'Dhaam Dhoom' is expected to be released by Pongal. Lakshmi Rai is banking on the film directed by Jeeva, who passed away in Russia, for a break in her career. Let us see whether this film and her effort to dub enhance her caliber as an actor.

Lakshmi Rai teams up with Himesh Reshammiya

Lakshmi Rai is all set to star in a Hindi film titled 'Hey Gujju' with Himesh Reshammiya. The film is produced by Studio 18 and is to be directed by Satish Kaushik. Says Lakshimi Rai, 'I have waited for a long time for a Hindi film offer and finally I've got it. I play a Punjabi girl in the film and there loads of opportunities to come out with a sterling performance'. On her comfortableness playing a Punjabi lass, she says, 'Many of my classmates were Punjabi. I know how they talk, dress and have observed all of these in great detail. Never did I imagine these elements would come in handy for me. I am most comfortable playing a Punjabi and there are many people who have told me I look like a Punjabi girl. So, I guess that's what made me get the role'. 'I have been part of two glamorous song sequences that were shot on beautiful sets in Mumbai', she adds. Though Lakshmi Rai says she is getting Hindi film offers, she adds she would always maintain a strong base in Tamil films.

Lakshmi Ramakrishnan - a new treasure for Kollywood

Introduced by Lohidhadas in 'Chakkara Muthu', Lakshmi Ramakrishnan is a multi-faceted personality as a director, fashion designer, talented actress and a perfect home-maker too for four children. Lakshmi is even still called as 'Devayani Teacher' in Kerala, the name of her character in 'Chakkara Muthu', which was praised widely and won accolades. It was Karu.Pazhaniappan who brought her into the light of Tamil filmdom. She featured in the role of a typical mother of Sneha in 'Pirivom Santhipom'. Her performance as Karthik's mother in the recently released 'Poi solla porom' is also winning rave reviews and rapturous praise. She was offered to play as Vijay's mother in 'Azhagiya Tamil Magan' but the dates did not work out. She has directed 6 short films till now out of which two by names 'The Birthday Party' and 'Samagamam' were telecasted in Asianet and Podhigai. Lakshmi, who prioritizes movies based on the scope for her performance, has been roped in for 'Eeram' produced by 'S'Pictures, 'Leelai' produced by Aascar films and 'Ellam Avan Seyyal'.

Lakshmi Menon busy with Class 12 exams

Southern actress Lakshmi Menon couldn't attend the audio launch of her upcoming Tamil thriller "Naan Sigappu Manithan" Thursday because she was busy writing her Class 12 exams in Kerala, says actor Vishal Krishna. This is the second time in a row Vishal and Lakshmi have worked together after Tamil drama "Pandiya Naadu". "She wanted to be part of the audio launch but she couldn't make it because of her exams. She's writing her Class 12 exams in her hometown (Kerala). She will join us soon for the promotions of the film," Vishal said. Vishal-starrer "Naan Sigappu Manithan", which is about a character suffering from narcolepsy, is slated to release April 11.
