Producer K Manju who is lying low off late, is all set to make a bang again. This time the senior producer has got the call sheet of Upendra and is is likely to start a film with him soon. Another highlight of the film is, it will be directed by Uppi's long time friend and associate Loki who had earlier directed Upendra in 'H20' along with Rajaram. After that Loki directed only one film called 'Thabbali' which was also a disaster at the box-office. Though much details about the film has not yet divulged, it is being said that Upendra has accepted the film for Loki and will be launched soon. Upendra's favourite cameraman H C Venu and music director Arjun Janya will be the part of the film. The story, title and the cast and crew of the film is yet to be finalised.
Shiv is 'Punyavantha'
Not in very comfortable position in the box office of first half of this year hat trick hero Shivarajakumar is having bizarre of films on hand that is keeping him busy on the floor. In this year only 'Satya in Love' was average while 'Bandhu Balaga' crashed miserably in the box office. Currently he is acting in 'Nanda' for director Ananthraj and 'Paramesha Panwala' for director Mahesh Babu. He has agreed films for RS Films in the direction of Raghav Loki, 'Devaru Kotta Thangi' by director Saiprakash in which national award winning actress Meera Jasmine plays Shivarajakumar's sister, 'Hodi Maga' (title picked from his popular film 'Jogi' song) in the direction of Sathyaa.P, 'September 11' for K.Ganeshan, 'A.K.97' film in Om Prakash Rao direction, 'Bagyadha Balegara' in the direction of Saiprakash and for producer N.M.Suresh love story film that will be directed by Raghuram D.P. 'Cheluveye Ninna Nodalu' that will be shot in seven wonders of the world. Now the news comes from ace lyricist cum director Dr.Nagendra Prasad that Shivarajakumar is 'Punyavantha'. A.T.Lokesh of 'Dhuniya' fame of whom 'Zindagi' is releasing this week is the producer of 'Punyavantha'.
20% Success in 6 months
With the newcomers facing disaster in the last six months the Kannada film industry recorded 20 percent success from 50 films released. Darshan is the successful hero of the first six months of 2008. Two of his films 'Gaja and Indra' have done wonderful business in the box office. Both are remake films. He is 'Gajendra' of Kannada cinema! Golden star Ganesh 'Gaalipata' was good and 'Aramane' did not burn the fingers of producer K.Manju. Puneeth Rajakumar's 'Bindhaas' once again clicked but it was not stupendous like his last film 'Milana'. Sudeep's 'Mussanje Mathu' is average while another film 'Ghooli' reached the break even for producer Ramu. The surprise hits of the first half of year are 'Mr Garagasa' (Komalkumar) and 'Nanda Nanditha' (Yogish). Shivarajakumar's 'Satya In Love' was fair and it did not pushed the debutant producer Ramesh to the back seat. The over all investment of eight films succeeded in the box office was around Rs.25 crores and it earned nearly Rs.60 crores. While the rest of 40 plus films investment was Rs.60 crores and it bombed in the box office is a tragic tale. In the last six months 70 Kannada films went on the floors is another interesting factor. The debacles have not disturbed the newcomers it seems. There are some pretty new faces with Kannada origin. Pragna from 'Baaba', Aishwarya Nag from 'Neene Neene', Sonu from 'Inthi Ninna Preethiya', Haripriya from 'Manasugala Mathu Madhura', Ashwini from 'Varasdhara', Nanditha from 'Nanda Nanditha' and Bhavana Rao from 'Gaalipata' proved their ability and got good offers too with an exception to Bhavana Rao. The heroines from other states ' Hansika Motwani, Mamatha Mohan Das, Genelia, Navya Nayar, Sunaina, Gayathri, Poonam Kaur, Roma also appeared in one Kannada film each. Among boys Yashas of 'Yuga Yugale Sagali', Sandeep of 'Varasdhara' proved to be potential although their films failed. There are four promising director who succeeded too in the box office. Madesh from 'Gaja', Mahesh from 'Mussanje Mathu', Nagshekar from 'Aramane' and Ragav Loki from 'Satya in Love' showed promises. The films that faced debacle are:- Current, Kusuma, Hogi Baa Magale, Shivani, Manasugala Mathu Madhura, Varasdhara, Accident, Happy New Year, Chilipili Hakkigalu, Gange Bare Thunge Baare, Gnanajyothi Siddaganga, Thaayi, Baaba, Prachanda Ravana, Sundari Ganda Sadananda, Athmeeya, Neene Neene, Challatadha Hudugaru, Akasha Gange, Dharode, Huttidare Kannada Nadalli Huttabeku, Honganasu, Singapuradalli Shambulinga, Navashakthi Vaibhava, Beladingaalagi Baa, Rahasya, Avva, Hani Hani, Yuga Yugale Sagali, Inthi Ninna Preethiya, Marujanma, Bandhu Balaga and Channa. The results of three films released on 27th June ' Meravanige, Vasanthakala and Nee Tata Na Birla are yet to fall out.
Film industry dharna
The entire Kannada film industry is sitting on a 'protest fast' on Friday 4th April 2008 in front of busy traffic area Town Hall in Bangalore from 10 am to 5 pm. The call for this is given by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to protest the attributions made by Tamil Nadu chief minister M.Karunanidhi in the Hogenakkal issue. There will be no film activity in Bangalore in the 'Dharna' time. The Kannada film industry has also supported the bundh call given for 10th April by Kannada Horata Samithi protesting against the TN CM statements. There will be no film activity on that day also said Sa.Ra.Govindu. The cable operators in Karnataka will switch off the Tamil channels on 10th of April from morning 6 am to 6 pm supporting the stand of Karnataka. To the raging controversy between the two states of Cauvery water sharing issue adds one more water project battle that is Hogennakkal. The Kannada film 'Satya in Love' starring hat trick hero Shivarajakumar, Genelia in lead roles produced by debutant T.N.Ramesh and directed by newcomer Raghav Loki doing good business in Karnataka running from 28th March at Srinivasa theatre Hosur and PVR in Chennai has been called back informed director Raghav Loki speaking to this correspondent over telephone. 'Satya in Love' screening in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, New Delhi are unaffected.
'Satya In Love' coming in big way
Super star hat trick hero Shivarajakumar's highly expected film 'Satya In Love' by debutant producer T.N. Ramesh and director Raghav Loki with charming and sizzling Genelia playing the lead with some fine stunts from Peter Hynes is ready to treat the cine goers from 28th of this month. In as many as 100 plus theatres 'Satya in Love' could be watched. The point to be noted at this stage is that 'Satya in Love' is releasing at places like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra besides releasing all over Karnataka. The humble producer Ramesh remembered the cooperation he got from Dr. Rajakumar family. I did not ask for the story but when I saw the first print recently in the early morning show I was totally impressed. Raghav Loki has done 100 percent better. He will be one of the finest directors of Kannada cinema felt Ramesh. He is releasing the film now from Bahar Films. Even though the film has come bit late it is latest and curiosity is intact because the media has supported like that said the director Raghav Loki eagerly waiting the response of audience and media. The reason why U/A certificate been extended is because of a portion of the film having blood. Without that there will be no force says Raghav Loki. This is the 50th music direction of Gurukiran. 'Bandhu Balaga' shoot over
Superstar Shivarajkumar starring family package film 'Bandhu Balaga' by producer Soorappa Babu and Kamalakar has completed shooting in 43 days. The shooting of this Janardhana Maharshi story and screenplay film was held by director Naganna at Mysore, KGF, Bangalore and other places. Ramesh Babu is the cameraman. Hamsalekha has written the lyrics and composed the songs. Both Soorappa Babu and Kamalakar are waiting for the big hit as their earlier ventures 'Kadamba' and 'Jyeshta' starring Dr.Vishnuvardhana directed by Suresh Krissna failed miserably in the box office. A sentiment film with human values in it 'Bandhu Balaga' has Ram Shetty's stunts. Shivarajkumar, Poonam Kaur, Jyothirmayi, Shashikumar, Doddanna, Hema Chaudhary, Manadip Rai, Honnavalli Krishna are in the cast. This is set for April release says producer Soorappa Babu. Around this time Shivarajkumar's 'Maadesha' is also getting ready. In March middle Shivarajkumar and Genelia starring Rs.7.5 crore venture, 'Satya in Love' that has for the first time 4K Digital Intermediate technology is releasing says director of the film Raghav Loki. Will it be three films release of Shivarajakumar in two months time?
