Close on the heels of completing Abhishek Bachchan ' Aishwarya starrer Guru, Manirathnam would wield the megaphone for another Bollywood movie titled Lajjo. The movie would star Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles. Now with Manirathnam venturing to do back-to-back Hindi movies, his fans in Tamilnadu are obviously upset. Adding to it, there were reports that the director had bid bye to Tamil. However Manirathnam said, 'Both my scripts ' Guru and Lajjo are more suited for Hindi audience. Hence I am doing them in Bollywood. I am keen to do a Tamil movie and hopefully by next year, I would do one. Hope my fans like my films and for them I feel language is no barrier', he adds.

Manirathnam and his movie music
Manirathnam is a movie-maker who has successfully managed to blend art and mainstream cinema. His movies satisfy the mass as well as the class audience. He understands both segments and his movies carry a unique blend. The songs in Manirathnam's movies, mostly set to tunes by A R Rahman, carry a special flavour and feel. Manirathnam is acclaimed as the modern-day master for film songs as he knows how to get a song in the film, without affecting the flow of the story. But Manirathnam has always maintained that he would like to make movies without songs. In fact, his original idea for Aayitha Ezhuthu was to make it without songs. Now Manirathnam says that it is impossible to make cinema in India without songs. At a time when his Guru with Abhishek and Aishwarya in the leads, is set to hit the theatres, Manirathnam says music is an indispensable component of Indian movies. In Guru too, the songs are outstanding, with Rahman strumming some great numbers.
Manirathinam on his film Guru
Manirathinam is a man of few words. He lets his movies do all the talking. With Guru set for release this Pongal, Manirathinam has opened his heart out on the movie and his forthcoming plans. Speaking about Guru, the director said that it is a movie that traces the life of two characters. The film is an account of the events that occur in their life from their teens till they grow old. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai play couples while Mithun Chakraborthy is cast as a veteran journalist. Madhavan plays a cub reporter under the tutelage of Mithun Chakraborthy. Vidya Balan plays his wife. The movie has six songs. 'It is my 20th directorial venture,' he said. Manirathinam says, 'All the artistes have lived the characters. The story begins in 1950 and is set around Mumbai.' What next? Manirathinam says, 'Once I complete a movie, I take rest for the next six months and spend my time with my son Nandha.' On rumours that Mani would soon direct a Hollywood movie, the director in his usual style, said, 'Why should I, when Hollywood movies are turning towards India?' One of the few directors to have emerged a successful producer, Manirathnam said, 'It is for my comfort that I became a producer. I need not compromise when I direct my own movie.'
Manirathinam denies reports
Director Manirathinam has denied reports that he would be directing Rajinikanth. A section of press had carried reports that Rajinikanth will star in Manirathnam's film, after Sivaji. However, the ace director has denied all the reports and said it was a mere media speculation. 'After my Guru, I am planning to rest for a while and then commence my Hindi movie Lajjo with Aamir Khan.' Manirathinam and Rajinikanth had earlier teamed up for Dhalapathy, which starred Mammootty and Aravindswamy too. Buzz is that Rajinikanth might do a movie for A R Murugadoss after Sivaji.
Manorama receives award from Kalaignar
In an event of great magnitude on behalf of Murasoli trust, actor Manorama, also called by many as 'Aachi' fondly, received the Murasoli award from Tamil Nadu CM Kalaignar Karunanidhi. Doyen of Tamil literature and writer Jayakanthan, and literary scholar Silamboli Chellappan also received the award from the Chief Minister, in recognition of their contributions in their chosen field. It is interesting to note that Manorama is the only female actor to have acted with our CM. She played the heroine in a play titled Manimagudam in which Kalaignar Karunanidhi acted as the hero. We congratulate the threesome and look forward to enjoying more quality information and entertainment from them in the coming days.
