It is known that Bollywood’s recently released film Tanu weds Manu is being remade in Tollywood soon. A debutant director Gopi, who has earlier worked under Puri Jagannadh will direct this romantic comedy entertainer. Dil Raju and Nallamalapu Bujji will jointly produce the film. Tanu Weds Manu Returns' spins box office magic, makers 'relieved'
Tanu Weds Manu Returns" director Anand L. Rai, who was under pressure over viewers' expectations from the film, is a relieved man. His latest movie, starring Bollywood's 'Queen' Kangana Ranaut, has earned Rs.38.10 crore in its opening weekend. The sequel of the 2011 film “Tanu Weds Manu” marks the return of Kangana as Tanu, and a twin avatar -- Datto. The film, which released on May 22, received good response on its opening day by collecting Rs.8.85 crore. However, it took a drastic jump on Saturday and Sunday minting Rs.13.20 crore and Rs.16.10 crore, thus taking its weekend total to Rs.38.10 crore, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The story of "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" starts from where the prequel ended. It shows what happens to the lead pair after four years of having their marriage on the rocks. Starring R. Madhavan as Kangana's husband, the movie is winning applause for its entertainment value. Despite the fact that most of the sequels have not managed to entertain viewers and have proved to be a flop at the box office, "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" is turning out to be an exception. This has left the director "relieved". "I am feeling relieved. There was a pressure with the sequel, but I'm overwhelmed with the kind of response that I have received for his film. It is the small characters in the film who have played a pivotal role. I always feel each and every character in the film is extremely important," the "Raanjhanaa" director told. As far as the future of "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" is concerned, the film will have a clear run at the box office this week too as there is no big budget or multi-starrer film coming up apart from Arshad Warsi and Jackky Bhagnani-starrer "Welcome 2 Karachi", which releases on Thursday. It would be no surprise to see "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" crossing the Rs.100 crore mark soon, Devang Sampat, business head - strategy, Cinepolis, told. "The film opened to positive reviews and houseful numbers across the country. Made on a modest budget of Rs.30 crore, the opening weekend has collected around Rs.40 crore and with clear run next week as well, it will not be an understatement to say that 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' is racing for Rs.100 crore at the box office,” he added.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns' continues to dominate box office
Kangana Ranaut's 'swagger', R. Madhavan's subtle nature and Deepak Dobriyal's wit in “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” has struck gold at the box office, garnering rave reviews. And it's getting steady as it has amassed Rs.165 crore worldwide. Produced by Eros International and Colour Yellow Productions, and directed by Aanand L. Rai, "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" is a sequel to the 2011 entertainer "Tanu Weds Manu". The film has grossed over Rs.129 crore in India and Rs.36 crore overseas since its release, making it the first film to cross Rs.100 crore Net Box Office (NBOC) this year, read a statement. Focussing on the rediscovery of love between a married couple, the film features Kangana in a double role and has a supporting cast of actors Jimmy Sheirgill and Swara Bhaskar. The film got massive response not only from the critics and audience, but also from the film fraternity. Released on May 22, the entertainer collected Rs.38.10 crore in its opening weekend. Elated by the success, the director said: “Nothing can be bigger and more encouraging than this for a filmmaker. I’d like to thank everyone for accepting the film with so much warmth.” Nandu Ahuja, senior vice president, India Theatrical, Eros International Media Limited, noted that the film's success is audience's win too. “'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' is not just our film anymore, it now belongs to the audiences. After a long time viewers are enjoying a real entertainer and we are witnessing families flocking to cinemas and also repeat viewings. The success of films like TWMR reiterates our audiences’ appetite for content driven entertaining cinema,” Ahuja said.
'Tanu Weds Manu' helped Deepak get 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo'
Actor Deepak Dobriyal, known for his effective supporting roles in films, says he was offered a role in Sooraj Barjatya's "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" after his part in Tanu weds Manu "Sooraj-ji gave me a role in 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' and he told me, 'I gave you this role after watching your performance in 'Tanu Weds Manu'. So, I feel the response has been great and few characters leave a strong impact on the audience," Deepak said. The actor is once again receiving plaudits for essaying the role of Pappi Singh in the latest hit "Tanu Weds Manu Returns". Kangana Ranaut's double-role may have turned out to be the star of the Aanand L. Rai-directorial, but Deepak's role as R. Madhavan's on-screen close friend has also been roundly applauded.
