More news →Give me a break, says Preity
The second half of 2006 can well belong to Pretty Preity Zinta. For she has two big releases in the form of Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' and Shirish Kunder's 'Jaaneman' which has already fetched a record-shattering Rs 7.4 crore for the Mumbai circuit. Preity recently won the 'IIFA Most Glamorous Star of the Year' award. But when she danced to the Arabic tunes of 'Laila o Laila' and 'Mehboob Mere' at the same event, one couldn't help but notice the not-so-pretty-flab on her stomach. In the day and age when actresses are fervently sweating it out in the gyms of the world, Preity needs to do something fast before too many tongues start wagging about her appearance. Meanwhile, Preity continues to remain in high spirits with two of her big releases round the corner. She also dismisses reports of her alleged differences with Rani Mukherjee by saying that Rani has proved lucky for her as all their movies together have done well. She goes on to say that if Karan is there for Shahrukh to ensure a hit then Rani is there for Preity to make a hit combo. As for the reports of her settling down with beau Ness Wadia by the end of this year, all she has to say is that the rumor mongers should give her a break. For when she has never hidden her relationship with Ness, then she won't hide her marriage dates either.
Call Me Bipasha, says Viveik
There's something about Viveik Oberoi that's putting-off and likable at the same time. At a recent press meet of 'Omkara', 'Saathiya' hero was dressed in all white with a shirt that was almost unbuttoned-till-the-belly. The shrug of shoulders and straightening of hair was a precursor to an obsessive I-Me-Am trip that followed. 'When Vishal Bhai came with the script of Omkara and told me that he wants to play Othello's Cassio, my first reaction was no,' Said Viveik. But why the thought of refusal? 'Cassio is a one dimensional character.' Hmmm'Whatever that means. Then why did he do the film and also happen to enjoy its filming? 'When I read the script, I loved it. The character of Keshu is the most flamboyant character of Omkara. He is the only character that breaks into English now and then in a Western UP milieu, is flirtatious to the core and is a 'Bahubali' who lords over people breaking into a fist fight now and then.' While Viveik was busy talking to the journos, Bipasha sauntered in his alley. The 'courteous' Oberoi willingly obliged the shutterbugs by posing with his arms on the lady's gym-toned waist. 'Call Me,' he said to Basu babe with his fingers on his ear-n-mouth respectively. To which Bipasha just turned around and mingled with her coterie of female-journalists-turned-admirers. Well, it's hard to accept but both the Lady (Ash, But Naturally) as well as Luck (Both his earlier flicks 'Home Delivery' and 'Pyaare Mohan' proved losers at the Box Office) have been eluding Viveik Oberoi. There was a time when he was the cynosure-of-envy as he walked hand in glove with Ms Rai around the world. Now, the vibes are cold and that confident smile is just-about holding on. Never mind'Next question! It seems Saif taught you how to play guitar on the 'Omkara' sets. 'I was taught how to play guitar by a very good guitar player Sarosh. Since Saif knows how to play the guitar himself he gave me a few tips. We bond really well,' he said. It was time to go. He left with a trademark swagger while a powerful whiff of perfume permeated the Air Conditioned surroundings. When I look at the promos of 'Omkara' I like the energy displayed by Oberoi boy. He has also been likable in 'Company', 'Saathiya', 'Yuva', 'Kaal' and I even liked his comic act in 'Pyaare Mohan'. Here's hoping he would concentrate on being as earnest while conducting himself in public life as he is while donning grease paints on the big screen.
U,Me Aur Hum gives Rakesh Roshan hiccups
Ajay Devgan's directorial debut U,Me Aur Hum has already been creating the required buzz. The movie will see Ajay Devgan and wife Kajol come together after Raju Chacha. The expectations from this film have been running high right from the nascent stage. The film which is set to release in April has given other films releasing in the very same month jitters. The dates of Devgan's venture will see a clash with Rakesh Roshan's Krazzy 4. It has been reported that Rakesh Roshan has been in talks with Ajay, requesting him to push forward the film by a week or so. Roshan wants to stick to April 11 and wants his film to be the solo release during that week. However, Devgan too has been insisting an April 11 release. Devgan states that he has a strategy in place that would prove vital for the promotion of the film. Thus, postponing the film would create a complete mess. Now, it's quite surprising that Rakesh Roshan fears Devgan's directorial debut even after backing the film up with a good star cast and item numbers by Hrithik and Shahrukh. Great going Ajay!
'Tell me your identity' - Ajay Devgan
The actor/director who is know to keep a low profile, recently made a sweet gesture by talking to fans over the internet on the occasion of Friendships Day almost the entire day ! Apparently Ajay was looking for an appropriate day to interact with fans and took this opportunity to answer friend requests all over the web based social networking sites and communities like Facebook, Myspace along with his personal website. Unlike Ajay's abilities and understanding of the technical aspects involving film making, nowadays Ajay concentrates and devotes a lot of time on his computer and web. Interestingly it was observed that Ajay also insisted on the true identity like the picture of the person who wishes to be his friend before accepting their request. Looks like nothing stops the man from insisting on perfection. All we have to say is, Good going Ajay, as there are millions who wish to reach you!
'Not me: it's about Sallu and Anilji' Katrina Kaif
Close on the heels of completing production works for Yuvvraaj; Katrina Kaif is much excited and curious about film's release. Of course, one more factor delighting is mastering the toughest musical instrument Cello. 'Perhaps, don't take it granted that original music pieces were played by me. I am not an expert, but felt happy on Subashji's appreciation of facial expressions while playing it'. When asked whether she is the binding factor in this musical drama? She replies, "As the tagline goes, Music and Love binds all the characters together. Well for me, the special binding factor is relationship portrayed between Sallu and Anilji'" With whom did she feel comfortable working with? Again she brings in two of her favorite personalities, "With Anil Kapoor, I feel like working more and with Sallu I raise questions to me, 'are we working or relaxing'. So, it's been off different times with these favorite people".
Missed me doing action? Coming back soon, says Suniel Shetty
Suniel Shetty is taking a U-turn and returning to where he started in Bollywood – action. The macho actor, who is taking a sabbatical from producing movies after facing losses, is pumping his muscles to crush some bones on the big screen for a resurrection. “There are plans to come back to action. I am working hard on my body and fitness for that. I will do something that is extra extraordinary. It will be a patriotic film,” Anna, as he is fondly called, said in an interview. “The script is ready and I am playing a central character in the film. The action in it will be unbelievable. Hopefully, it will work,” added the 49-year-old, who drifted to comedy with movies like “Hera Pheri” and “Hulchul” for a new innings. Asked if the film will be a contemporary or period outing, the fit actor nodded for the former. Prodded to reveal more, he said: “I wouldn’t like to talk about it until it happens. But it’s just that they (the characters) are in the raw, in the jungle and up in the mountains. So there will be a lot of commando oufit action up there.” Suniel, who will reach the milestone age next year, is also pumping metal hard for the film and to mould his muscles into an age defying body cover. “I am training hard for it. I am much leaner now and far more ripped than I was, but I want to go down even further. I want to be very sporty than I have ever been. I want to be really lean and ripped,” said the actor, who looked everything but his age in a more toned than ever avatar. “I am also hitting 50 next year and when people believe they are getting older at that age, I want to believe I am younger,” he added looking dapper in full sleeve black t-shirt and blue jeans. So will the movie be a home production? “No home productions for me right now because in the two years I did productions, I lost a lot of time as I was not acting. There’s too much stress with productions,” said the actor, who couldn’t impress lady luck when he turned producer in 2003 with his banner “Popcorn Motion Pictures” and produced duds like “Khel” and “Rakht”. Suniel injected action in the comman man’s home as a desi Schwarzenegger in his 1992 debut “Balwan”. While he jumped bridges in the movie to save women from goons and slithered in paint in a dark godown to break the antagonist’s jaw, he became the contemporary He-Man in Bollywood. A Black Belt in kick boxing, he kept the decade packed with more of muscle power in outings like “Waqt Hamara Hai”, “Mohra”, “Suraksha”, “Shastra”, “Rakshak”, “Krishna” and “Aakrosh” and “Dus”, to name a few. “I missed action and I am happy that films like ‘Wanted’, ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Dabangg’ brought back action in such a big way. It is larger than life,” said the actor. Apart from fame, the action image, however, proved fatal for Suniel when it came to comedy. “It (comedy) was something that was natural in me but because of my structure and because of the action that I did, people didn’t see that side of me. But I am not held on to my forte by doing only action as the thing that sells. I wanted a change of image and I am working towards it,” said the father of two, who received critical plaudits for his role in the Maoist drama “Red Alert: The War Within”. Apart from action and comedy he also has to his credit patriotic outings like “Border”, “Refugee” and “LOC: Kargil”. For his almost two-decade journey in Bollywood, he said: “There have been highs and lows but the day I get out of the industry, I just want people to say, ‘he was a nice guy… he was a good actor and a good human being’. That’s why I also make a conscious effort to make sure that I don’t hurt anybody,” he said, sporting a childlike smile. A “family man”, who likes to keep it low-profile, the actor also owns restaurants specialising in Udupi cuisine and clothing boutiques. “I am also trying to revise my water sports business in Mumbai.” As for films, his other future projects include a venture on capital punishment and “Thank You”.
