Mirugam censored, given A certificate

Mirugam, which keeps on hitting the headlines and creating sensation for one reason or the other, is censored today (Dec 8). The movie has been given A certificate by a six member team that had two women in it. The members suggested 30 cuts to give the film U certificate. Director Samy was not ready to accept so many cuts and hence decided to accept 'A' certificate. The members wanted the movie to be sent to the revising committee, after seeing the first half. But the second half has, according to a member, moved them and impressed them a lot. They were all in praise for the director. The members also asked the director to mute the sound in some scenes. The movie is expected to hit the screens soon.

Mirugam: A sigh of relief

The sensation surrounding 'Mirugam', right from the slapping incident, continues till its release. After getting the nod from the censor board, the movie was in for a shock, which came in the form of a notice served by Blue Cross. The organization that works for the welfare of the animals has objected to the Jallikkattu (Bull fight) scene in the film. Blue Cross sent a notice to the censor board demanding to stall the release of the film. The unit was shocked. It had already got the oral clearance from the censor board and announced the release date. The board has withheld issuing the certificate following the receipt of the notice. Director Samy was simply shattered, as he did not expect such a predicament at the last moment. Finally he accepted to cut the Jallikkattu shot and the Blue Cross immediately withdrew the notice. Then the censor board issued the certificate and the movie is opening on December 14 as planned. Samy and the unit are now happy and eagerly awaiting he results of the movie. Meanwhile, an encouraging development took place for the 'Mirugam' team. Vijay ' Shriya starrer 'Azhagiya Thamil Magan', which was running four shows in Udhayam theatre, in Chennai, has been reduced to a single show and the three shows have been allotted to 'Mirugam'. This, the unit feels, is a sign of success.

Samy speaks on 'Mirugam'

'Mirugam' is a movie that will convey a strong message to the society, says director Samy. The movie starring Padmapriya and newcomer Adhi in the lead roles hit the headlines ever since Samy reportedly assaulted the actress on the sets for not performing well during the shooting. Following Padmapriya's complaint, Samy was banned from directing films for a year. Speaking about the film on the occasion of its release, Samy says, 'It is inspired by a real life incident that happened in Thiruvarur in 1970s. I came across an incident wherein a brutal youth killed his pregnant wife. I laced the story with commercial elements. Cinematography by Ramnath Shetty and Sabesh ' Murali's musical score has given life to the movie'. Samy further adds, 'Adhi's dedication towards the role deserves a mention. He toned up his physique, increased and reduced his weight according to the demands of the script.' He has some positive comments on Padmapriya as well. 'Equally appealing was Padmapriya. She has a strong role to play with in the script and has done her part well.' However, Samy adds that if Padmapriya had extended full co-operation, they would have completed the shooting long back. 'Anyway her character has come good and she would draw appreciation from masses after its release', says Samy.
