Munnabhai and the Gandhi connection

While the world is talking about ton loads of money that films like 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna', 'Dhoom-II', 'Don' and other such biggies are expected to make before an eventful 2006 ends, they are forgetting that one of the most interesting sequels (or an episode, as the makers wish to call it) is gearing up for a release this September! The name is 'Munnabhai Lagey Raho'! But this time around Munnabhai and Circuit are not alone as they have one more character for company! Who is HE? Is HE none other than 'Father Of The Nation' GANDHI? That's the impression one gets after having a first look at the film's promo that designs a distinct portrait of Gandhi made of clouds in the sky! If this is so, then how does that happen? Does Munnabhai and Circuit do a time travel or someone like Gandhi [or Gandhi himself] arrives in 2006? Lots of questions! No ready answers! And the makers are not ready to divulge anything about the film's plot! Are you interested now?

Munnabhai Lage Raho is not a sequel, says the Director

'I would like to reaffirm that Lage Raho Munnabhai is not a sequel to Munnabhai MBBS,' says director Rajkumar Hirani. Then what exactly is it'.Bole Toh Mamu? 'My latest is a continuation of the concept. It is a different episode in the life of Munnabhai,' he clarifies. 'Munnabhai Lage Raho' is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year as it hits theatres on September 1st. Starring Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan, Jimmy Shergil, Diya Mirza and Boman Irani, 'Lage Raho' may be the biggest event in Sanju Baba's life after 'Munnabhai'. Arshad Warsi who is basking in the glory of his latest release 'Golmaal' owes his second innings in Bollywood to his 'Circuit' act in Munnabhai MBBS a couple of years ago. Sanjay Dutt on his part wanted the title to be 'Munnabhai Meets Mahatma Gandhi' but when an opinion poll seconded 'Munnabhai Lage Raho' he decided to go with the flow. The promos of the film are already creating curiosity value on the small screen as Munnabhai plans to serenade the Multi Screens this September with his Robin Hood act. Once Again!

Munnabhai's Music Disappoints

Rajkumar Hirani's 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. A sequel to the super hit 'Munnabhai MBBS' the crackling chemistry between Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi is one of the finest camaraderie-teams in Hindi cinema. Abbas Tyrewala's witty dialogues were applauded for the ingenuous usage of the local idiom with a more poignant emotion. The music of 'LRM' was released recently and its CD cover is more interesting than the music score. It has a Stamp with Sanju, Arshad and Vidya Balan perched atop a mo-bike while contours of Gandhi ji are dotted in the sky. There's a seal from Munnabhai proclaiming: Apun Ka Gaana No.1 written upside down. While Anu Malik's situational music picked up after 'Munnabhai MBBS' became a rage, Shantanu Moitra's music score will also be depending heavily on the visuals of the film. There's nothing outstanding in any of the songs. And except for an innovative 'Samjho Ho Hi Gaya' (Where Sanju and Arshad take to the mike too), all the other songs are just about ok. In fact one of the numbers 'Pal Pal'.Pal Pal' is a blatant copy of Cliff Richard classic 'Theme For a Dream'. After the magnetic appeal of 'Parineeta' and 'Yahaan', the music of 'LRM' is a let down from Moitra whose strength lies in melody and not parody numbers.

Munnabhai continues to rock after 50 days

'Lage Raho Munnabhai' has turned out to be one of the rare films to have enjoyed a consistent set of loyal audience over the weeks. With minimal drop in collections over each of the weeks, it is now one of the ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTERS after completing 50 days at the box office. What is remarkable is that the film has achieved this feat at a large number of centers unlike innumerous biggies that normally loose steam after their earnings come to close in 4-5 weeks. Hence it doesn't come as surprise that work has already begun on the third in the series of 'Munnabhai'. Though an official confirmation is still awaited for the same, what has been made quite clear is that an announcement would be made only when the script would be ready and turns out to be better than that of 'Munnabhai MBBS' and 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'.

Munnabhai and Circuit: From Friends to Foes!!

The Munna Bhai series saw actors Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi display an excellent camaraderie as the duo shared everything a friendship could offer'..well now they will be seen not as friends, but foes' chasing each other, or rather Sanjay chasing Arshad as cop after alleged criminal!! In Indra Kumar's Dhamaal, Sanjay Dutt plays a dashing cop who is after the life of four lovable and foolish idiots (Arshad, Aashish, Ritesh and Javed) who find themselves in an uncanny situation, one after the other. Says Arshad laughingly, "Yes, Munnabhai is out to finish me off in the film!! Sanjay is this very determined cop, who wants to make our life pure hell! Jokes apart it is a very fun filled film and people will see quite a different side to mine and Sanjay's chemistry in Dhamaal!" Will Munnabhai catch Circuit? Well, now that's something we must watch out for as Dhamaal releases 7th September!

Munnabhai's desire bites the dust

His intentions may be honest and without any hidden agendas, but the ghosts of his past are still hunting and haunting him down. Mumbai's own Munnabhai would not have thought that the slight hint given by him to follow his late father Sunil Dutt and sister Priya Dutt into politics would ignite such a wide spread protest from the public. At a function organized by a people's representative in memory of his father's third death anniversary, Sanjay Dutt had let out a spark that he held a desire to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The resident associations of the Mumbai North West parliamentary constituency represented by Sanjay's sister Priya Dutt immediately showed their resentment in the Bollywood star being given a chance to be an elected leader stating that a public representative should have a clean history. The people also held on to their opinion that Priya Dutt is a natural and good leader as she is impartial in making her decisions, understands the problems and is supportive and that Sanjay in no way can substitute her. So the spark of political ambition let out by the star was blow off before it could be transformed into a fire. Sanjay is seen as a bad example to follow and the chairperson of the H West Ward Citizens Trust went on to say that Sanjau Dutt becoming an MP is a grave threat that has to be destroyed in this stage itself. Munnabhai is a character that is loved by the old and young alike and was seen helping the needy and teaching the present generation the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. The B-Town superstar might now really get the hang of the meaning of the two popular terms- real life and reel life and that people may take home the goodness that oozes out of the roles of the screen idols and forget what happened once the screen goes black, but in real life it is not the same.
