Can you believe that for a movie's shoot, over 500 sanyasins were taken on a train? Yes, director Bala has taken by Varanasi Express, over 500 sanyasins and beggars to Varanasi. This is for his movie Naan Kadavul. Beginning 3 December, Bala would commence shooting for Naan Kadavul at Varanasi. Arya plays a young sanyasin in the movie. Azhagam Thamizhmani, Secretary, Tamil Film Producers Council, plays his father. Bhavana plays a visually challenged person in the movie. Initially it was rumoured that Bala had axed Arya from the movie and launched a search for a fresh face. Bala has put an end to all speculations by going to Varanasi for the movie's shoot. Speaking from Varanasi, Bala confirmed that shooting would commence on 3 December and till then, the search for locations would go on. A major portion of the movie would be shot there and the rest in Thenkasi in Tamil Nadu. Naan Kadavul will hit the screens late next year.
Naan Kadavul getting ready
Quietly shooting for his Naan Kadavul is director Bala. A major portion of the movie was shot in Varanasi followed by another schedule shot in Chennai in huge sets resembling the famous Palani temple was put up. Bhavana plays a blind girl in the movie and she is optimistic that the role would fetch her enough awards. Arya has not committed any new offers and is engrossed in Naan Kadavul. Bala, who normally takes his own time to complete his film, is on a different mode now. He is shooting the movie at a brisk pace to ensure that it hit the screens by the middle of this year. 'Dialogues by Jayamohan would be a major highlight of the movie besides the musical score by Ilayaraja,' says Bala.
Naan Kadavul for Deepavali
Director Bala is a busy bee now. He is working tirelessly to get his long-pending Naan Kadavul starring Arya completed and release it for Deepavali. Karthiga has replaced Bhavana in Naan Kadavul. She plays the role of a blind beggar. After much delay, Bala recommenced shooting for the film at interior areas of southern Tamilnadu. The movie is shaping up fast. The second schedule is now shot in Periyakulam and Kumbakarai. Buzz is that Bala is planning for release this Deepavali. Movies like Kamal Haasan's Dasavatharam and Vijay's Azhagiya Tamil Magan are getting ready for Deepavali.
'Naan Kadavul' on Republic Day
Director Bala's 'Naan Kadavul', which has been under-production for almost a year, is finally nearing completion. Directed by Bala, 'Naan Kadavul' has Arya in the lead role. The film witnessed change of heroines for at least three times. Finally Pooja was chosen to play the female lead to Arya 'Naan Kadavul' shooting resumed a few months ago. Ilayaraja does the music for the film. Now efforts are on to release the movie on republic day (26 January, 2008). The long wait for Arya may finally come to end next year.
Naan Kadavul: Off to Kasi to end shooting
'Naan Kadavul' team would be off to Kasi to shoot the remaining portions of the movie featuring Arya and Pooja. The movie directed by Bala, had been in the making for over a couple of years. Initially Ajith was supposed to play the lead. However he was replaced by Arya. Similarly Bhavana was touted to play the female lead. She was later replaced by Pooja. A major portion of the movie was shot in Theni and Periyakulam district. Finally, the crew is off to Kasi to can some important sequences featuring Arya and Pooja. Sources close to Bala said that the climax sequences would be shot there and the shooting would eventually end by the beginning of next month. However they are tight-lipped on the movie's release.
'Naan Kadavul' in troubled waters
It is a film that heightened the curiosity element of Tamil movie lovers big time. The interesting title and director Bala's unique way of storytelling seemed just perfect for some magnificent entertainment. The producers of the film, Pyramid Saimira and director Bala unfortunately do not see eye to eye. This has resulted in a further delay to the movie's release. Reports indicate that 'Naan Kadavul' has knocked on the doors of the Producers' Council to settle their disputes. Sources close to the producers said that they agreed to fund the project with a condition that they would invest Rs 7 crores. But now, director Bala is now demanding Rs 15 crores to complete the film. However, sources close to Bala have a different version. They said: 'It's Bala's habit to ensure quality and reality in the films he makes. He pumped in his own money to shape up 'Naan Kadavul' in a big way. Now he is asking back what he has invested.' The movie has been in the making for a long time. Unfortunately, the delay has disappointed film-buffs, who are waiting for the movie. Starring Arya and Pooja in lead roles, the movie has musical score by Ilayaraja. Bala's last directorial venture was a long time ago with 'Pithamagan'.
