Naksha celebrates 50 days

Sachin Bajaj's debut action adventure flick 'Naksha' has completed 50 days at the box office. This well made film was released a week after 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' and trade believes that if only there would have been a gap between the two flicks, 'Naksha' would have done a much better business than it has eventually done. The film has done reasonably well but has been termed as a non-success due to its heavy budget. Also the low phase of both Sunny and Viveik also impacted its eventual total, though one needs to admit that it was Sunny's star power at number of centers that made it generate decent revenue there. In addition, since the film was more in the running at the single screens rather than the multiplexes, the total doesn't truly reflect the decent crowd it got in. Nevertheless, in the world where box office success is the obvious parameter of a film's popularity, 'Naksha' may well go down as an also-ran, though one wishes that Sunny and Viveik truly make a worthy comeback soon!

NAKSHA team in FOOL N FINAL

Call it a coincidence but an entire team of last year's release NAKSHA finds itself in FOOL N FINAL. Cast of NAKSHA comprised of Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Viveik Oberoi and Sameera Reddy and each of them also form an integral part of FOOL N FINAL. A multistarrer action/comedy/thriller FOOL N FINAL has Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha Takia leading the cast and is an all around fun caper. Directed by Ahmed Khan who debuted with Sunny Deol/Suneil Shetty/John Abraham/Sohail Khan starrer LAKEER a few seasons back, FOOL N FINAL is the second release within a year's time for producer Firoz Nadiadwala after PHIR HERA PHERI [2006].

Promo watch - Naksha

Bollywood has seen a variety of genres on which films have been made. While during last few months comedies have been working in a big way, a couple of years back it was the horror genre that worked with the audience and a little before it was sex'n'sleaze that enticed the viewers to the theatres. There have been family movies, social flicks and usual action dramas but rarely have there been films belonging to adventure genre! Yes, there have been films belonging to 'road' genre but none in the recent times that have explored the outdoors in such an extravagant way as the soon-to-be-released 'Naksha', an action/adventure, promises to be! A Secret Guarded By The Gods A Power Desired By Mankind A Map, The Key To It All As soon as the opening fire-lit captions begin the promo of 'Naksha', you know you are in for an unique'n'intriguing ride. With the message about the film's subject being revealed in a tantalizing manner, you are hooked in a matter of 5 seconds to check what is Naksha' all about? Gods, power, map, key - is it a mythological flick or a treasure hunt? Is it set in modern times or deals with ancient times? Vibrant beats of 'tabla' take you through a journey forward as the camera zooms past hills, ravines and seas to take you to a world hitherto unknown! And when Sunny Deol arrives on the screen dressed in a Robin hood outfit with an outstretched bow and arrow, you are finally assured that it is actually a Hindi film that you are watching! Two Men Will Unravel The Past Battle The Present To Safeguard Our Future A tale about past, present and future would never have got such exciting as is conveyed in the subsequent shots! And there are two men who will aspire to beat the mightiest of all! While one is Sunny Deol, a few seconds later you get to know that the second man in question is Vivek Oberoi who is shown kicking and boxing around the baddies in the middle of the mountains! Zingy'n'pacy background music is just an ideal companion of this adventure thriller that reaches its crescendo when a huge cave comes on screen with a mega gate that resembles like a monster's face! Dark lights create suspense around the proceedings as kicks, punches and some raw action happen all around! Wait, this is not all as Jackie Shroff's character is introduced from behind! In the cave made of huge multistoried pillars and boasting of a massive ambience, Jackie's huge built is further enhanced by his specially designed costumes that give him a fearful persona. As a main baddie in the film, he makes for quite a towering impact as shots of a crumbled browned out map arrives on the screen. As the promo progresses, the long distance shots of the three people in search of the map, Sunny Deol, Viveik Oberoi and Sameera Reddy, are shown traversing the mountains, hence giving the film a larger than life appeal. Air, water and earth are encountered as the heroes jump from the mountain peaks, beat the gushing river flows through rafts and fight a battle with the villains on the earth as the protagonists try to 'unlock the mystery' by getting hold of the 'naksha'! What is it that these men are trying to get hold of? What is its relevance to the past? Why is the present insecure about this? And how does our future depend upon this subject? To get answers to all these questions, watch out for this debut directorial venture of Sachin Bajaj that unleashes on the big screen this September!

Naushad: The Taj Mahal of Indian Film Music

The era of pristine melody is over. For the master creator, like the white dove of peace, shall no more flutter its wings near the piano key. Veteran music composer Naushad Ali may have passed away, but the priceless jewels beaded together by his perfect craftsmanship shall always reverberate in the corridors of collective memory. The magic of Mughal-e-Azam, Mother India, Ganga Jamuna, Anmol Ghadi, Rattan, Mere Mehboob, Baiju Baawra, Udan Khatola and Ram Aur Shyam shall never be recreated. For there can never be another Naushad. Akbar Khan's Taj Mahal was his swan song and like a soldier, he died with his boots on. The story of his life is straight out of any gripping Hindi Film. Nights on footpath of a ruthless Bombay city, earning peanuts out of repairing harmoniums and composing for small theatre groups, he found hope when he joined music director Khemchand Prakash as an assistant. In 1940, Naushad got his first break with Prem Nagar and with the success of Sharda and Rattan, he touched heights of stardom by charging a whopping Rs 25, 000/- per film. The brilliance of Noorjahan (Jawan Hai Mohabbat), the solemn timbre of Suraiya (Man Leta Hai Angdai) and the magnanimous range of Lata Mangeshkar (Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya) were his sparkling-yet-austere gifts to the world of music. Uma Devi's Afsana Likh Rahi Hoon is like a whiff of fresh air that still manages to open the windows of imagination. The world of Hindi Cinema went on to laugh with Uma Devi who enacted comic roles as Tuntun after Ali asked her to give acting a try. Naushad did things differently. His biggest contribution to Hindi Film Music is the incorporation of Indian Classical Ragas in many of his compositions. Colossal doyens of Classical Music (Ustad Amir Khan and D V Puluskar in Baiju Baawra and Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan in Mughal-e-Azam) exclusively graced his songs. Risk taking came naturally to him as he always believed in taking chances. Whether it was using a 100 piece orchestra for Aan or 100 chorus singers for Mughal-e-Azam, he didn't think twice before going ahead with his plans. By successfully blending western instruments with the Indian classical, he showed the path to many aspiring music composers of all generations. The path breaking achievement in the field of sound mixing and separate recording of vocals and musicians is his invaluable contribution in the field of Music Recording technology that will always be remembered. In a career spanning six decades, Naushad sahab gave music in a mere 66 films. On an average he took two weeks to compose a song, while today, a music director can do a couple of complete films in that duration. The preference of quality over quantity is evident in the staying power of his songs even after such a long period. Even though, young DJ's may mix Naushad's melodies in hundreds of ways, they can never come close to the essence or the soul of the painstaking thought process. Someone rightly said: There is only one Taj Mahal. And there can only be one Naushad Ali.
