Nandhi Awards - Sweet success for Trisha, Sneha

Tamil actresses have not only gone to Tollywood but also have managed to notch up egregious success there. Sneha and Trisha are good examples. They are not only top heroines there but also are winning awards regularly. The two smart young actresses have been selected for the prestigious Nandhi Awards announced annually by the Andhra Pradesh State government. They won the award for the year 2005 announced on Saturday. While Trisha was selected for her stupendous performance in Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, Sneha walked away with the honors for the movie Radha Gopalam. A thrilled Sneha was happy with the double whammy. 'I got the Kalaimamani award by the Tamilnadu government last year and now the Andhra Pradesh government has awarded me the coveted Nandhi award.' 'Radha Gopalam was hilarious as well as sensitive entertainer and it was a great experience shooting for the movie. I thank the entire unit involved in the making of Radha Gopalam for the award'. Trisha is also upbeat at winning the honour. She says, 'The award is a motivating factor for me to achieve more things. Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana has got me not just laurels but also fame and name in Andhra Pradesh'. Now the big test awaits them: That of living up to the new reputation.

Nandita turns director

Nandita Das, in many of her interviews has earlier expressed her desire to wield the megaphone, calling the shots. The actress who was the part of the cast in the latest Adoor film Naalu Pennungal in Malayalam seems to have studied much from the master director and is now giving serious thoughts about directing a film. According to the reports, her debut film as director, which is in Hindi, will start shooting in December this year. The actress, who is presently into location hunts for the film, has also confirmed the cast list though she hasn't made it official yet. It is learnt that she is very keen on casting Naseeruddin Shah and Paresh Rawal in her film. Though Nandita is reluctant to talk about the cast, Paresh Rawal confirmed that he is doing her film. Her film is all about family ties and relationships.

Nandita's debut movie

One of the most critically acclaimed actresses of our times, Nandita Das has completed her debut feature film as a director- 'Firaaq... In Such Times'. The movie which features seasoned actors like Shahana Goswami, Naseeruddin Shah, Raghuvir Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Deepti Naval and Tisca Arora, tells a plot about how violence affects people's lives. The movie cinematographed by one of her colleagues Ravi K Chandran, is edited by Sreekar prasad. The music composer of this move is Rajat Dholakia. 'Nanditha is more interested to sent her ' non-formula film'', a collection of five different stories, to festivals since her film is all about violence in lives. The actress who felt much consumed with her debut film feels that she will not be able to direct another in the near future. She claims that the language used in her movie is conversational, meaning free use of Hindi, English and Urdu. Nandhitha herself has scripted the movie with collaboration from Suchi Kothari, one of her friends who live in Auckland. The actress who is more known for her powerful performances in 'Fire', 'Bawander', 'Punaradhivaasanm', 'Kannaki', 'Diveree', '1947 Earth', 'Maati Maay', 'Azhagi' and 'Kannathil Muthamittal' but distanced herself completely from acting in her first directorial venture.

Nandita's film at the Toronto film festival

Nandita Das's directorial debut film 'Firaque' has been chosen to be screened at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival which will take place from the 5th of September. 'Firaque' made in Hindi is a moving tale that highlights the distress caused by violence in society. With reference to the gory Gujarat riots the film has managed rave reviews for showcasing humanness. Nandita Das is very popular among Tamil movie audiences because of her stunning performances in the films 'Azhagi' directed by Tangar Bachchan and 'Kannathil Muthamittal' directed by Mani Ratnam.

Nandhini to try for a crime thriller soon!

After giving a comedy adventure ‘Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru’, director Nandini is going to try for a thriller subject for his next film. Even sources say that Nandini’s next project would be a crime thriller set in the background of village. The movie is all about a sequence of murders that take place in a village and how the case is solved. Famous actors will play the lead roles in this yet to be titled film. And the movie is also being to be produced by a popular production company and plans are going on to release the film by the end of 2010.

Nandita in Vijay's Puli

Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Puli is taking a fast shape in the hands of director Chimbudevan. Latest we hear that Nandta Swetha has been roped in for a slick, yet important role in the movie. This sociao-fantasy film has completed most of the schedules. Puli shooting is currently on at a village set erected near Talakona. Filmmaker is caning some important sequences involving Vijay, Shruti Haasan and others. Shibu Thameens and PT Selvakumar jointly producing Puli on SKT Studios banner.
