Dr.Vishnuvardhana is playing the title role in Dinesh Baboo directorial 'Master'. The talented actress Suhasini plays 'Mrs Master'. At the stroke of 08-08-08-08-08 (8th second 8 minutes 8 am 8th date, 8th month and 2008th year) 'Master' is going on the floor in Bangalore. The last film the pair appeared was in 'Mathad Mathad Mallige' directed by Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar.
46 Films in fray
For the Karnataka state film awards for 2007-2008 there are 46 films in the contest. As many as 17 Kannada films in it have not been released and remake films like 'E Bandhana, Sundari Ganda Sadanda, Mr Garagara, Satyavan Savitri and hotchpotch 'Bindhaas' films are dare enough to enter the Karnataka sate awards. There is absolutely no provision for remake films in the state awards. The films censored before 31st March 2008 have also made entry to get awards. Gubbachchigalu, Chilipili Hakkigalu, Deepa, Naanu Gandhi, Ekalavya are the children film. For the state awards best hero Dr.Vishnuvardhana, Shivarajakumar, Puneeth Rajakumar, Golden star Ganesh, Premkumar, Ramesh Aravind, Vijay, Chetan are key contestants. For best heroine Umasri, Daisy, Neethusri, Bhavana, Priya Hasan, Lakshmi Hegde, Shuba Punj, Bhavana, Sonu and others are in the contest. Birse and Badhuku are Tulu language films.
'Hrudayagala Vishya' - Between hearts
'Hrudayagala Vishya' meaning between hearts is the new film taken up by 'Mr Bakra' director Vasanth. Prashanth of 'Orata I Love You' and 'Maharshi' is paired with Madhu Priya. Madhu Priya has acted in ready for release 'Gang Leader' under production 'Chamatkarakke Namaskara' and Tamil film 'Katruvullavare'. The affluent student falls in love with a poor girl via a mobile. Till last reel in the film they will not explain the love but internally they will be in love. The members in the family of hero give importance to money while heroine family says love and affection is most important than money. Falling in love is not a crime. It is not like nefarious activities. This is what director Vasanth is focusing in his second venture. Hanumantharayappa a real estate businessman is producing this film. Editor of 'Hai Bangalore' Ravi Belegere is playing the head of 70 member family in this film. He writes a book 'Thumbida Samsaradha Sukha Jeevana' on the significance of huge family and living together. That novel will be released in one of the scenes of the film.
Sherlin in Kannada
The seductive item dancer Sherlin Chopra is coming to Kannada film 'Madesha'. The sensuous dancer has quoted Rs.35 lakhs for the item song. Imran Sardaria who showed the steps to Mumaith Khan in 'Orata I Love You' is preparing for Sherlin Chopra dance number in the film 'Maadesha' that star Shivarajakumar in the lead role. Sherlin Chopra alias Mona alias Menaka has appeared in hot dance numbers in naughty Boy, Game, Dosthi, Red Swastik. This is her first south Indian assignment. Ravi Srivatsa is the director of Kannada film 'Maadesha' in which Sherlin has given consent to dance. Last year on Kannada screen the audience saw the dance numbers of sex bombs Raki Sawanth in 'Geleya', 'Mumaith Khan' in 'Orata I Love you' and Mallika Sherawat in 'Preethi Eke Bhoomi Melidhe'.
2007: The year that was - Part I
Another interesting and commendable year has passed for the Kannada film industry. It is interesting because the bizarre of newcomers entered the film industry. Nearly 200 films went on the floor in this year. It is a record in the history of Kannada cinema. Most of them are newcomers. Thanks to 'Mungaru Male' and 'Dhuniya'. Out of 200 films that went on the floors only 92 Kannada films got released in the year 2007 recording 20 percent of success. The winners in the box office are - Dhuniya, Arasu, Sixer, 16 to 60 (re release), Pallakki, Hudugaata, Cheluvina Chittara, Sri Dhanamma Devi, Satyavan Savitri, Manmatha, Orata I Love You, Yuga, Chanda, Shukra, Milana, Aa Dinagalu and Krishna made profits. It has been very fruitful and unforgettable year for Ganesh. The Golden Star prefix he got to his name is apt. His films 'Mungaru Male' (released on 29th December 2006) 'Cheluvina Chittara', 'Hudugaata' and 'Krishna' of 2007 made a whopping business of over 100 crores in less than one year. 'Mungaru Male' completed one year run and he became a brand ambassador. In the first quarter he has films like 'Gaalipata' and 'Aramane' set for release. All his films so far from 'Chellata' completed 100 days screening is another notable record in the career of Ganesh. He is the darling for producers. The second in the queue of popularity and making a strong ground is Vijay. Although he was in controversy his films like 'Dhuniya, Yuga, Geleya and Chanda' did tremendous business of Rs.50 crores. The power star Puneeth Rajakumar films 'Arasu and Milana' gave him the regular 100 mark and also earned roughly Rs.20 crores of rupees in the year 2007. Among the heroines Pooja Gandhi, Amoolya and Rashmi earned laurels. Directors Yogaraj Bhat, Soori and S.Narayan remained in the limelight for the terrific results of their films. It is a wonderful year for music director Mano Murthy, cameraman Krishna and Satya Hegde. It has been a debacle for all the senior actors and actresses. The similar was the situation in 2006. Dr.Vishnu's 'Mathad Mathad Mallige, Ekadanta, Kshana Kshana and his special appearance in No.73 Shanthi Nivasa' failed to click. The result of 'E Bandhana' is not yet known. Shivarajkumar films 'Gandana Mane, Santha, Thayiya Madilu failed to keep the cash registers ringing. The result of 'Lava Kusha' yet to be ascertained not only for Shivarajkumar but also for Upendra as his other films like 'Parodi, Masthi, Anatharu' bombed. The similar is the situation for Darshan, Sudeep, Dhyan, Premkumar, Vijaya Raghavendra, Murali, Ramya (except Arasu), Rakshita, Radhika, Rekha (except Hudugaata).
Events and honors: 2007 Part II
The formation of Dr.Rajakumar Trust to transplant eyes and the government of Karnataka clearing the decks and allocating Rs.10 crores and making the blue print for Dr.Rajakumar memorial at Kanteerava studio is the major development. Other events and honors include: * Dr.Rajakumar was posthumously honored the prestigious 'Sri Raghavendra Swamiji Anugraha' award. * Union minister and Kannada film actor Ambarish gets the NTR award for his service. * SP Balasubramaniam got the prestigious 'Basavasri'award. * Phalke committee recognition came to Mr R.Lakshman the veteran film producer of Kannada cinema. * 'Mungaru Male' silver jubilee, Jothe Jotheyali, Kannadadha Kandha, Arasu, Dhuniya, Sri Dhanamma Devi celebrated 100 days event. * Prem and Rakshita married in an extraordinary style. * Actor Vijaya Raghavendra married Spandana daughter of ACP Shivaram. * Master Kishen film goes to Giffoni, Italy film festival and gets two awards and he won Silver Elephant at the 15th international children film festival held at Hyderabad. * Rockline Venkatesh celebrated the silver jubilee of his married life with Pushpa Kumari at Gayathri Vihar palace. * Shivarajkumar new house was inaugurated on 18th October. On the same day his new film 'Bandhu Balaga' song recording muhurut was held. Shiv's house is situated on Hebbal ring road. * Rakhee Sawanth in 'Geleya' and Mumaith Khan in 'Orata I Love You' made debut in Kannada films. * Smt.Parvathamma Rajakumar, Ananthnag and Suresh Urs gets Kannada Rajyotsava awards.
