Bips aka Bipasha Basu is all set to cast her "jaadu and nasha" on screen once again. This time it is in Sanjay Gupta's Pankh directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyay. Interestingly, Bipasha is a mere fantasy of the 20-year-old protagonist Jerry (Maradona Rebello) and does not actually exist in the film. Explaining the complexity of the story director Chattopadhyay said, "Bipasha is Jerry's fantasy who exists only his mind. She is his alter-ego and loves to provoke him at a drop of her hat." Sudipto further explains, "The character of Jerry is very complexed. The film shows him as a famous child artiste who crossed dressed as a girl. Thus he is confused about his identity. There's a song, Jiya na Jala, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, where he fantasizes Bipasha seducing him, creating confusion in his mind about his real identity whether he is a man, woman or an eunuch. But Bipasha seduces him completely and is his sexual fantasy. Bipasha is his only solace from the ugly reality of life." The director reveals that he and designers Rocky S and Gavin Miguel worked hard on Bipasha's look in the film. "We wanted Bipasha to look like a Diva a la Sophia Loren and Liza Minelli in Cabaret. Also we had lengthy discussions on the scenes. And during the shoot Bipasha got so in with her character that as if she was visible only to Jerry and completely unaware of the actor's presence on the sets. Her entire attitude and behavior while playing the character made the entire experience very interesting."
Bipasha sports nine looks in Pankh
Priyanka Chopra played 12 characters in “What’s Your Raashee” and now Bipasha Basu is doing much the same in “Pankh” where she sports nine different looks. The actress plays an imaginary character in director Sudipto Chattopadhyay’s film and her different looks will reflect the attitude and mood of the hero, played by debutant Maradona Rebello. Releasing April 2, it is produced by Sanjay Gupta. According to Bipasha, whenever Maradona feels vulnerable, she has been given a soft look and whenever he is agitated or in self doubt, she is made to look harsh. Bipahsha also feels that designing her look was the complete teamwork of designer Rocky S, director Sudipto Chattopadhyay and new age producer Sanjay Gupta, who were instrumental and involved in designing the right look to match the attitude of the character. “Pankh” traces the life of a boy (Rebello) who plays a female artiste as a child in movies. When he grows up and wants to be launched as a hero, he goes through gender confusion and falls in love with an imaginary actress, played by Bipasha. “‘Pankh’ is a wild ride through the underbelly of the film industry. Bipasha plays an alter ego, a fantasy and we wanted her to look like the two divas – Sophia Loren and Liza Minelli from ‘Cabaret’. The conception and execution of the looks were a collaborative effort between the Sudipto, the director and designers Rocky S and Gavin Miguel,” Gupta said in a press statement. The film also features Mahesh Manjrekar, Lillette Dubey, Ronit Roy, Sanjeeda Sheikh and newcomer Amit Purohit.
Pankaj Kapoor -The man behind JAB WE MET
The title of Jab We Met has come under praise for conveying a young, contemporary and romantic feel to the keenly awaited Shahid-Kareena starrer. But not many know that it was the father-son duo of Pankaj Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor who came up with it. Says Shahid, "Actually it was dad's (noted character actor, Pankaj Kapoor) idea to have a Hindi-English title to make the film universally appealing. We did some intense brainstorming and finally hit upon Jab We Met! There were two other options but this one won hands down by a public vote." Smiles director Imtiaz Ali, "Initially when I heard the film's title, I wasn't sure. But with time, I got used to it and began liking it. Today I am convinced that it is the most appropriate title I could have asked for. It summarizes the theme of my film in three short words without giving the story away!" Jab We Met releases worldwide on October 26 by Studio 18.

When Pankaj Kapur took a risk for a mere umbrella
Pankaj Kapur has an interesting role to play in Vishal Bhardwaj's next release 'The Blue Umbrella'. After working with the enterprising director/composer in 'Maqbool', Pankaj Kapur is said to have given another terrific performance in The Blue Umbrella'. In the film, he plays the role of Nandkishore Khatri is an obstinate, pickle-loving 60 year-old-man who owns a tea stall in a village. He is like a child who is constantly at war with village kids and invariably tries to fleece off their little possessions. That being said, he is also a shrewd businessman, who knows the value of each rupee. He often cuts deals with the villagers, selling biscuits and toffees on credit in order to get what he wants. Although he has no real family to speak of, he has an affinity to the people of the village and treats them as his surrogate family. What he lacks in the way of education, he makes up for with his ability to charm the locals and foreign tourists. As soon as the blue umbrella crosses Nandu's eyes, his desire for it and his constant need to be the centre of attention in the village, overtakes him and clouds his rational thinking. To possess it, he is willing to risk almost anything.
