A man who swore allegiance to Islamic State and had been sentenced for jihad links has murdered a French policeman outside his home in Paris. Witnesses told investigators the man may have shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he stabbed the policeman in the suburb of Magnanville. The attacker then held the 42-year-old policeman's wife and the couple's three-year-old son hostage inside the home. Explosions were heard at the scene as heavily-armed police moved in following failed negotiations with the RAID elite police unit. Officers discovered the body of the policeman's wife inside after storming the house. The attacker was killed during the police operation, according to French interior ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet. France's interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve described the killing of the officer as "an appalling terrorist attack" and said more than 100 people seen as potential threats have been arrested in recent weeks. The threat "is high in France, it's high in Europe, it's high in the Western world as shown by the events that happened 48 hours ago in the United States," Mr Cazeneuve added. Unconfirmed reports have named the suspect as Larossi Abballa, 25, adding he had been jailed for three years in 2013, six months of which were suspended, for "criminal association with the aim of preparing terrorist attacks", in a trial with seven other defendants. The couple's son was "in shock but unharmed", a prosecutor said. The Amaq News Agency, which is linked to IS, claimed the attack was carried out by an "Islamic State fighter". French prosecutors have launched an anti-terror investigation. A source told the AFP news agency: "The anti-terror department of the Paris prosecution service is taking into account at this stage the mode of operation, the target and the comments made during negotiations with the RAID." President Francois Hollande said in a statement that he "strongly condemned this odious act". "A police commander and his partner, a civil servant at the interior ministry, were shamefully murdered this evening," Mr Hollande said. "All light will be shed on the circumstances of this terrible tragedy," he added. Senior government officials will meet at the presidential palace early today to discuss the attack.
Disneyland Paris: Man arrested carrying two guns
French police have arrested a man carrying two guns at an entrance to a hotel at Disneyland Paris. The man, reportedly aged 28 and not known to security services, was also discovered with a copy of the Koran and a box of ammunition, police said. His bag triggered metal detectors as he entered the New York Hotel at the much-visited theme park. France remains in a state of emergency declared in November after the deadly attacks by jihadist militants in Paris. So-called Islamic State (IS) said it carried out the co-ordinated assaults that left 130 people dead. 'Routine screening' Disneyland Paris closed briefly after the November attacks, but the theme park remained open following Thursday's incident. "During a routine security screening checkpoint at one of our hotels, weapons were discovered in a guest's luggage through our X-ray machine," spokesman Francois Banon said. "The police were immediately notified and the individual was arrested. We continue to work closely with the authorities and the safety and security of our guests and cast members is our utmost priority." "There was loads of security, there were sniffer dogs, which you wouldn't see in any hotel and there was security as well," Ronan Flaherty, who was staying at the premises at the time, told the BBC. A police source told the AFP news agency that a preliminary investigation did not point to terrorism, and that the man had said he was carrying the weapons because he feared for his safety.

Manhunt for suspected Paris killer underway as his brother talks
As the manhunt unfolded for a suspect in the Paris massacre Monday, his surviving brother said he had no idea where the fugitive was hiding. Police were seeking the suspected attacker Salah Abdeslam, 26, and any possible associates. Officers set off explosions in Molenbeek, a suburb of Brussels, Belgium, but they say they failed to make any arrests Monday. "My parents are in shock and don't realize what happened," Abdeslam's brother, Mohamed, told reporters. He added, "We don't know, because of the current tensions, if he will dare to turn himself in." Mohamed Abdeslam was detained over the weekend and then released, according to his attorney. She told the RTL network her client "hadn't made the same life choices." A third brother, Brahim, killed himself in Friday's string of attacks. His mother suggested he took part in the suicide bombings because of "stress," Dozens of masked and heavily armed security officials had sealed off the area in Molenbeek and neighbors were told to stay out of harm's way. Mayor Francoise Schepmans said the operation ended after more than three hours. In all, five of the seven people who were detained over the weekend because of possible links to the massacre have been released, according to the Belgian federal prosecutor's office. Two others have been charged with being part of a terror group and links to a terror attack, the office said in a statement. The U.S. and Russia were among the nations rushing to France's aid. French president Francois Hollande announced Monday that he would soon speak with Presidents Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin to discuss pooling their efforts to destroy ISIS. The meeting with Putin could take place later in November, Russian state media reported. Hollande also urged his parliament to extend France's state of emergency for three months. Investigators identified a Belgian jihadist believed to be fighting alongside ISIS in Syria as the suspected mastermind behind Friday's attacks that killed at least 129 people. A French official told The Associated Press that Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a 27-year-old from Molenbeek, was also believed to have ties to the thwarted attack on a Paris-bound high-speed train this past August, as well as a failed plot to attack a Paris-area church. He is reportedly the child of Moroccan immigrants. The Telegraph that Abaaoud was the head of a terror cell based in Verviers, Belgium that was broken up by police this past January. However, he appears to have escaped the clutches of the authorities and made his way to Syria. Salah Abdeslam had been stopped at the French border with Belgium early Saturday, hours after the attacks, The Associated Press reported. Three French police officials and a top French security official told the news agency that border officers let Abdeslam go after checking his ID. By then, hours had passed since authorities identified Abdeslam as the renter of a Volkswagen Polo that carried hostage takers to the Bataclan, where 89 concert-goers were murdered by terrorists. Three Kalashnikovs were found inside another car, a Belgian-registered Seat Leon known to have been used in the attacks, in Montreuil, an eastern Parisian suburb, another French police official said. France launched a series of airstrikes targeting the Syrian city of Raqqa, its biggest campaign in months. Sunday's strikes killed an unspecified number of ISIS fighters but did not kill any civilians, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The airstrikes were a central topic at the G20 summit in southern Turkey Monday. Putin said other nations now realize that a joint plan of action represents the only effective means of fighting terror. He also said the Russian military was in contact with the Syrian opposition, which asked Russia to conduct additional airstrikes. He did not say whether Russia complied, and there was no public response from any Syrian rebel leaders. Western critics have lashed out at Russia for targeting anti-Assad forces not linked to ISIS. Speaking at the same summit, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau said his nation would not change plans to end its anti-ISIS fight. Twelve French aircraft, including ten fighter jets, dropped 20 bombs on a command and control center, a jihadi recruitment center, munitions depot and ISIS training camp in Raqqa, France's Defense Ministry said in a statement. The U.S. military had shared data with France about ISIS targets inside Raqqa and pledged to broaden cooperation with the French government, a senior defense official told Fox News. Raqqa is the de facto capital of ISIS' "caliphate." The U.S. has conducted the vast majority of coalition attacks on ISIS territory up to this point, and has been almost solely responsible for all coalition bombings of ISIS inside Syria. However, the nature of Friday's attacks, which devastated France and shocked the world, changed the calculus.
Electric cars set to hit Paris roads
Paris will on Sunday launch an ambitious electrically powered car-share service that it hopes will not only improve the quality of life in the City of Lights but also herald a revolution in sustainable urban transport. But the “Autolib” venture also constitutes a risky gamble both for Bertrand Delanoë, the Socialist mayor of Paris, and for Vincent Bolloré, France’s best-known corporate raider and buccaneering entrepreneur, who is supplying the electric cars and operating the new service. In the volatile French pre-electoral political climate, Mr Delanoë hopes to repeat with the electric car project the huge popular and political – albeit costly – success of the Vélib bicycle-sharing scheme, which he launched four years ago. The city of Paris, and its neighbouring suburban communes, have together invested more than €200m to construct the necessary infrastructure, from parking spaces to battery recharging stations. Organisers hope the project will eventually reduce the numbers of privately owned cars in the city’s crowded boulevards, while also cutting pollution.
