'Paruthiveeran' gets special mention at Berlin

Tamil film Paruthiveeran, by Ameer Sulthan, was honoured with a "special mention" from the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) at the 58th Berlin International film festival. The film festival concluded here last night. The 2007 Tamil box-office hit evoked a very enthusiastic response from German and European film enthusiasts when it was shown in the International Forum of Young Cinema, the section focusing on young, experimental and avant garde films from around the world. The film's international premiere at the Berlinale was attended by Ameer Sulthan together with Tamil cinema's new discovery Karthi, whose debut performance in the film earned him wide acclaim at home and abroad. The three-member NETPAC jury, which included Indian film critic Meenakshi Shedde, gave the organisation's main prize to "United Army" by Japanese director Wakamatsu Koji. The film paints a critical yet emphatic picture of the militant student movement of the 1960s that spawned one of the most violent terrorist groups ever.

Paruthi Veeran audio launched

There is a global appeal for Tamil cinema and efforts are on to take it to greater heights by infusing young blood, said director Ameer. The young brigade of Kollywood comprising Vijay, Suriya, Jeyam Ravi and Jeeva among others gathered in Chennai on Monday for the audio launch of Paruthi Veeran, directed by Ameer featuring Suriya's sibling Karthi in the lead role. Ameer expressed confidence that Karthi will emerge a top star in Kollywood capable of doing varied roles. A proud brother, Suriya, expressed his gratitude to Ameer for bringing the actor out of Karthi. Describing Karthi as a talented actor, Suriya said he has got in him the determination and aptitude to learn the nuances of acting. With the able guidance of Ameer, Karthi will have an unforgettable debut, he said. Ronie Screwala, head, UTV Entertainment, flew all the way from Mumbai to take part in the celebrations. On the occasion, he said, 'There is a global recognition for Tamil cinema and my production house will soon produce a Tamil movie'. Releasing the first copy of the audiocassette, Vijay, the man of few words, conveyed his best wishes to Ameer and his team. Also who spoke on the occasion include director Selvaraghavan, actors Jeyam Ravi and Jeeva and music composer Yuvanshankar Raja. The star attraction of the evening was the presence of Jothika. Accompanied by Suriya, she took part in the celebrations. Also four songs were screened on the occasion.

Paruthi Veeran, Pokiri censored

Paruthi Veeran and Pokiri slated for release on Pongal day have been censored. Both the movies have been given 'UA' certificate by the Regional Censor Board. Pokiri stars Vijay and Asin in the lead roles and is directed by Prabhu Deva. Expectations are high since Vijay makes his appearance after a gap of one year. Similarly, director Ameer's Paruthi Veeran stars Suriya's sibling Karthi in the lead role. Ameer is busy giving final touches to his movie and the dubbing and other post production works are on at AVM Studios in full flow. Says Ameer, "My Ram has created a lot of expectations among the masses for my next movie. I should live up to their expectations. Hence I am giving final touches to my end product with utmost care. With just a few days left, I am keen on rendering a quality movie for the masses. I hope the director Ameer in Paruthi Veeran will make the producer Ameer very happy," he says.

Paruthi Veeran confirmed for Feb 23

Ameer's Paruthi Veeran is confirmed for a release on February 23. The film featuring Karthi, Suriya's brother, was in the making for over a year. This rural theme movie is being talked of highly, as Ameer is seen to be a sincere and serious filmmaker. Besides, Yuvan Shankar Raja's pastoral beats and lilt are already a big hit. Studio Green is releasing the film. Priya Mani plays the heroine opposite Karthi. The interesting irony is that Karthi's movie is clashing with his sister-in-law Jyothika's Mozhi which is also slated to hit the screens on February 23. It must be a tough call for Suriya, perhaps.

Paruthi Veeran, truly different

Paruthi Veeran, as we all know by now, is the debut of Karthi, Suriya's sibling, and Priya Mani plays the female lead in this Ameer directed film. Indiaglitz has already given an interesting piece of information on the film's hero Karthi crooning few lines for a song in this film. Now, we have more for you. These days, artistes dubbing in their own voice has become a rarity. This is more so in the case of heroines, for, more often than not, our heroines are from languages other than Tamil. Of course, the directors and producers may have their own justifiable reasons for this. But then, it is also a fact that dubbing enhances an artiste's performance, for, the right modulation and diction can do wonders to lift the artiste's performance. Paruthi Veeran has set a trend in this regard. All the artiste's including Karthi and Priya Mani have dubbed in their own voice and no dubbing artistes have been involved. Besides, since the film has a rural backdrop, enough attention was given to keep the film free from techno-gadgets. One cannot spot a mobile phone or a TV set in any frame of the film.
