Film on Pasumpon Thevar: the right information
Recently we wrote that a documentary film would be made on the legendary leader Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, directed by a journalist. Later we came to know that G.V. Gunasekaran, a filmmaker, is making a feature film on the leader under the title of Pasumpon U. Muthuramalinga Thevar. The director takes strong objection to the news saying that he is the one who has registered the title with South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and hence the legal owner of the title and the project. After verifying the documents we are convinced that Mr. Gunasekaran is making the feature film on the legendary leader. We do acknowledge and respect his right. Gunasekaran's project, in the meantime, is growing in a study pace. The director informs that the portions depicting the earlier parts of the leader have been completed. The selection for the actor to play the leader's role is on, he adds. "We have been meticulously searching for the right person to play the role. We hope that we would get an actor soon and begin the next schedule by January", said Gunasekaran with confidence.
History of Pasumpon Thevar on celluloid
I B Karthikeyan's Papillon Communications, which has several years of experience in the advertising industry, has made a documentary on the life history of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar. The documentary is being released on the occasion of Thevar's 100th anniversary. Titled 'Pasumpon Thevar Varalaaru', the documentary narrates the story of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar who worked for the poor and downtrodden people. Muthuramalinga Thevar was born in the Pasumpon Village in Madurai district and had worked with Netaji Subash Chandra Bose for the freedom of the country. M.P. Abraham Lincoln, who has served as a correspondent for several years with various dailies including Daily Thanthi, Dhina Bhoomi, Kathiravan, Dhinamalar, Dinakaran and Tamilmurasu and several weeklies has taken care of the research, compilation, script and direction of the documentary. The documentary is based on solid research backed by sufficient evidence for all the incidents narrated. The movie seeks to highlight the simple life style of Thevar, who was in possession of more than 32 villages. He shunned luxury and worked for the freedom of the country and to redeem the people who were suffering in slavery. The movie also portrays his donation of all the lands belonging to him to the needy, without showing any partiality towards any particular religion or caste. The filmmaker feels that Thevar, despite being a national leader, a distinctive spiritual person, and a social reformer, has been kept in the dark all these years. All the great deeds that he had done have all been hidden from the public eyes, says Lincoln. To present the true picture about Thevar's life history, Papilon communications has made a documentary after carrying out meticulous research on his life. The documentary running for about 75 minutes narrates with proof the service of Thevar in the freedom struggle and his contributions after the country became free. Advanced 3D technology and animation have been used to depict some of the sequences where no video footage is available. The documentary has been filmed extensively at several places including Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Tiruchy, Uraiyur, Pudhukottai, Thanjavur, Aaduthurai, Vellore, Kallupatti, and Pulichikulam where Thevar had lived and visited. The Muthukulathur incident which is recorded in history has also been filmed without any deviation from the truth. The Aimuga Vinayagar temple built and consecrated by Thevar is also featured in the documentary. The documentary features three songs penned by Yugabharathi. The music has been scored by Vijay Antony and actor Vagai Chandrasekar has lent his voice for narration.
Mozhi - Truly a Pesum Padam
Mozhi has not just set the cash registers ringing, but has also been receiving rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. Film critics call it a refreshing change in Tamil cinema, artistes call it a revelation to the fact that Tamil films are superior in quality, kids love it for the light-hearted humour, elders flock to it for the poignant emotion sans melodrama. That's Mozhi-packed and packaged in an impressive way to suit the tastes and temperaments of Tamil speaking audiences across the globe. If you thought we are talking just about film-buffs here in India, you are mistaken. Mozhi has taken audiences everywhere by surprise. A good example of this would be US of A, wherein audiences have been swarming into theatres to catch a glimpse of this film. And they come back to watch it, yet again, with families. A Duet Movies and Pyramid Saimira venture, Mozhi has captivated those that retain their emotions and sensitivity in an otherwise materialistic world. While we commend Prakash Raj for this attempt, we cannot but applaud Pyramid Saimira on their efforts to take this film to wider sections of the audiences. We welcome Pyramid Saimira to Tamil filmdom and wish that they continue to give us quality films that we can pride ourselves about. Those who saw Mozhi at theatres across the United States of America express satisfaction at having been able to see a heart-rending film devoid of commercial compromises. Theatres at San Jose and New Jersey have been witnessing packed houses and in places like Chicago and Minneapolis, the number of shows have been increased, seeing the increasing numbers of audiences. Theatres at Detroit, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle and so on, are all set to screen this film soon. It is to be remembered that the prevailing weather conditions at the US of A leave a lot to be desired. It has been pouring cats and dogs in some places and in other places, there is irrepressible snowfall. These, however, are not deterrents and do not stop people from seeing their favourite film Mozhi. With the encouraging initial reports, one expects to see this film turn into a bigger hit. Indiaglitz is happy to be part of this proud moment as we are the official online media partners for this film that has evoked enormous response.
