Director Priya, whose maiden directorial venture Kanda Naal Mudhal, won appreciation from the film buffs and had a decent run at the box office, is gearing up for her next venture. According to reports, Priya's next film would be produced by actor-director K Bhagyaraj. She has reportedly come up with a story which convinced Bhagyaraj. Search is on for a hero and once the cast is finalized, the movie will hit the floors. Priya, a one-time associate of director Manirathinam made her debut with Kanda Naal Mudhal, produced by actor Prakash Raj.
Periyar in Malaysia
Director Gnanarajasekaran's much awaited Periyar, a movie on the revolutionary thinker, is being shot at a hectic pace in Karaikudi, Tiruchy and its adjoining villages. Sathyaraj plays the title role while Jyothirmayi and Kushboo dons the role of Nagammai and Maniammai respectively. Buzz is that the crew would be shooting a song sequence for Periyar in Malaysia. Scenes involving Sathyaraj and Kushboo would be shot there. The cast and the crew would be off to Malaysia on 9 November.
Priya Mani's hopes on her forthcoming release Paruthi Veeran
Priya Mani, introduced by Bharathiraja in Kangalal Kaidhu Sei, had acted in half-a-dozen films, the young actress is pinning all her hopes on her forthcoming release Paruthi Veeran. She says, 'I learnt the art of waiting patiently to strike the right chord in films. I carry with me the rich experience of working with Bharathiraja and Balu Mahendra (Adhu Oru Kanaa Kalam). Now with Paruthi Veeran, I am more confident to face the camera.' Is she moving towards offbeat films? No, says Priya Mani. 'It's quite rare for heroines to get meaty roles. Fortunately all my films so far projected me in a prominent role. Everyone expected me to climb greater heights after Adhu Oru Kanaa Kalam. But it did not do well. But I am confident that Paruthi Veeran would make amends for it'. Expecting an award for her performance in Paruthi Veeran, Priya Mani has dubbed on her own for the movie. The movie would be released for the Pongal festival.
Priya Raman comes to small screen
Priya Raman, a once popular heroine in Kollywood, will make her debut in small screen with a mega-serial to be telecast in a prominent Tamil channel beginning Monday. Priya Raman, who married actor Ranjith, had acted in a few tele-serials in Malayalam earlier. Girija, directed by Arundhavaraja would be aired in a popular television channel beginning 4 December starring Priya Raman in the title role. Says Priya Raman, 'After marriage, I decided to stay away from acting and involved myself in producing movies. But I got a few offers to act in Malayalam serials.' On doing a Tamil serial, she says, 'The prominent production house AVM approached me to do the role. Moreover, Arundhavaraja narrated a gripping storyline to me. I felt this could be a nice platform to re-launch myself in Tamil.' Girija is targeted at womenfolk. It would have all ingredients to attract them, says the director.
Periyar audio on 23 Dec
The audio of director Gnanarajasekaran's Periyar would be released on 23 December in Chennai by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi. The movie is about the life of rationalist thinker and the founder of Dravidar Kazhagam, E V Ramasamy Naicker, affectionately called as Periyar by his followers. Sathyaraj plays the title role, while Kushboo and Jyothirmayi play his wives Maniyammai and Nagammai respectively. It may be recalled that the Tamil Nadu government had granted a sum of Rs 95 lakhs as financial assistance for the making of the movie. The movie has eight songs set to tunes by Vidyasagar and the lyrics are penned by Vairamuthu. A grand function has been organized in Chennai on 23 December in which Karunanidhi would release the first copy of the audio of Periyar. A major portion of the movie has been completed and the buzz is that Periyar may hit the screens early next month.
Periyar to release in Feb
Periyar, the movie on the rationalist leader, will be released on 2 February, 2007. According to K Veeramani, President, Dravidar Kazhagam, 'The shooting for the movie is all over. The movie went to floors on 10 July and the director Gnanarajasekaran shot the film in various places including Pollachi, Chennai, Kerala, Malaysia, Germany and Russia.' Speaking about the movie, Veeramani said, 'Sathyaraj as Periyar is an apt choice. He did not just play the character but lived like the rationalist leader. He has given his best performance and will surely win greater laurels.' 'With post-production works happening in full swing, we are hopeful of getting the censor certification by the end of January, 2007. Periyar will hit the screens on 2 February,' said the director of the film, Gnanarajasekaran.
