Director Gnanarajasekaran's much awaited Periyar, a movie on the revolutionary thinker, is being shot at a hectic pace in Karaikudi, Tiruchy and its adjoining villages. Sathyaraj plays the title role while Jyothirmayi and Kushboo dons the role of Nagammai and Maniammai respectively. Buzz is that the crew would be shooting a song sequence for Periyar in Malaysia. Scenes involving Sathyaraj and Kushboo would be shot there. The cast and the crew would be off to Malaysia on 9 November.
Periyar audio on 23 Dec
The audio of director Gnanarajasekaran's Periyar would be released on 23 December in Chennai by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi. The movie is about the life of rationalist thinker and the founder of Dravidar Kazhagam, E V Ramasamy Naicker, affectionately called as Periyar by his followers. Sathyaraj plays the title role, while Kushboo and Jyothirmayi play his wives Maniyammai and Nagammai respectively. It may be recalled that the Tamil Nadu government had granted a sum of Rs 95 lakhs as financial assistance for the making of the movie. The movie has eight songs set to tunes by Vidyasagar and the lyrics are penned by Vairamuthu. A grand function has been organized in Chennai on 23 December in which Karunanidhi would release the first copy of the audio of Periyar. A major portion of the movie has been completed and the buzz is that Periyar may hit the screens early next month.
Periyar to release in Feb
Periyar, the movie on the rationalist leader, will be released on 2 February, 2007. According to K Veeramani, President, Dravidar Kazhagam, 'The shooting for the movie is all over. The movie went to floors on 10 July and the director Gnanarajasekaran shot the film in various places including Pollachi, Chennai, Kerala, Malaysia, Germany and Russia.' Speaking about the movie, Veeramani said, 'Sathyaraj as Periyar is an apt choice. He did not just play the character but lived like the rationalist leader. He has given his best performance and will surely win greater laurels.' 'With post-production works happening in full swing, we are hopeful of getting the censor certification by the end of January, 2007. Periyar will hit the screens on 2 February,' said the director of the film, Gnanarajasekaran.
Periyar to be released on 25 May
Periyar starring Sathyaraj in the title role would be released on 25 May. The movie directed by Gnanarajasekaran is about the rationalist leader E V R Periyar has been censored and works are on to dub the film in other Indian languages besides French, German and English. It may be recalled that the State government had sanctioned a sum of Rs 95 lakh as financial assistance for making the film. Sathyaraj plays Periyar and appears in ten different make-ups. Jyothirmayi and Kushboo play prominent roles. Music is by Vidyasagar. Chief Minister M Karunanidhi recently watched the movie at a special screening and appreciated the director for his good work behind the camera. According to producer Swaminathan of Liberty Creations, since the movie's dubbing in other languages would take some time, it has been decided to formally release the film on 25 May.
Periyar in May
May will be a month for rationalists to rejoice. The movies Periyar and Ambedkar would hit the screens one after another during May. Both Periyar and Ambedkar fought for the downtrodden and championed the cause of Dalits. Their penchant for rationalist ideas is widely known. Ambedkar features Mammootty in the title role and the movie is being dubbed and released in Tamil. Noted producer Vishwas Sundar has obtained the dubbing rights in Tamil. Periyar starring Sathyaraj in the role of the rationalist leader will be released on 25 May. Directed by Gnanarajasekaran, the movie features Kushboo and Jyothirmayi in the roles of Maniammai and Nagammai respectively.
Periyar premiere in Malaysia
Sathyaraj's Periyar, the flick on the revolutionary leader of Tamil Nadu, will hit the screens on 1 May. The grand premiere of the movie would be held at Malaysia in the presence of Malaysian Minister Dato Samivelu on the Labors Day. The movie directed by Gnanarajasekaran has generated a lot of interest since the Tamil Nadu government came forward to co-sponsor the production. A sum of Rs 95 lakh was granted by the government towards the cause. Kushboo plays Maniammai while Jyothirmayi is cast as Nagammai in the movie, which has musical score by Vidyasagar and cinematography by Thangar Bachchan. Plans are on to dub and release the movie in various Indian languages. Expectations are high on the movie and buzz is that the title role played by Sathyaraj would bring him enough laurels and awards too.
