Ram Gopal Varma’s Phoonk 2 special contest for 'Phoonk 2' challenging one and all to watch the film launches on the official website www.phoonk2.in is on. The sequel to the blockbuster hit film ‘Phoonk’. Where writer Milind Gadagkar makes his debut as a helmer, 'Phoonk 2' is ready and slated for release on 9th of April, 2010. Shooting and post production of the film is complete. The film is presented by Ram Gopal Varma, produced by Prashant Burra and P. Chandrashekhar and Co-Produced by Riaz Hyder. The PHOONK 2 Scare Contest * Before the release of "PHOONK" we had challenged that if any viewer could dare to see the film sitting all alone in a theatre and not run out scared he will get a Cash Prize of Rs.5 Lakhs. * The contestant who took the challenge didn't even last for 30mins and ran out of the theatre. * After the release, some people alleged that the contest was rigged and that they never felt fear while watching the film. So now without going into a pointless argument on the same, we the Phoonk 2 team have decided to open ourselves to a scientific evaluation of that claim. * For "PHOONK 2" we are going to implement our Contest in a very scientific way as never ever done before in the history of Cinema anywhere across the World. The viewer who will claim that he is not going to get scared will be fitted with a ECG machine while he is watching Phoonk 2 which will monitor his Heartbeat and Pulse rate and this will be shown live on a screen outside the theatre to both the Media and all concerned. * A normal person according to professionals has a certain average heartbeat and when subjected to any kind of an intense emotion the beats will considerably go up. So if the challenger claims that he had no fear while watching Phoonk 2 the monitor will tell whether he is lying or not and on the other hand if he can control his fear and thereby his heartbeat and not let it cross his normal heartbeat then he will get to win the cash prize. * The PHOONK 2 Team DARES any viewer to take this Challenge and watch PHOONK 2. * We intend to launch the contest on 10th March on our official website www.phoonk2.in. This contest is Restricted to only healthy people with no history of Cardiac disease and also only to people who are between 18 and 60 years of age. * The contest will be open for people across India and based on a computerized random draw people will be shortlisted, who then further will have to give a medical indemnification for further selection by our team and a medical professional who will eventually single out the final Challenger to be subjected to the test. The Challengers normal heartbeat will be recorded before and while the screening is happening. We will also make sure that the contestant is actually watching the film without closing his eyes by shooting him Live through a night vision camera and showing his facial ex-pressions to the media and all concerned on a screen outside the theatre. If at all he wins this challenge he will be awarded the Prize money right at the Venue in front of everybody.
If you are a braveheart, ‘Phoonk 2′ can fetch you Rs.5,00,000
Director Ram Gopal Varma claims “Phoonk 2″ is scarier than “Phoonk” and says that the person who can watch the film without getting scared can win Rs.500,000. “I am sure ‘Phoonk 2′ is very, very scary and I am sure no one would leave the theatre without getting scared. So we will do a contest under some scientific observation,” said Varma. “Someone who says he won’t be scared while watching the film will be shown ‘Phoonk 2′ in a theatre alone. He will be attached to an ECG machine to monitor his heart beat and the machine will be connected to a screen outside the hall. If his heart beat stays normal, he will win Rs.500,000,” added Varma. Varma says he has consulted a doctor about the contest. “The doctor says if an average man is subjected to extreme emotion, his heart beat goes up and one of the emotions could be fear. So, if a man sitting in a theatre is not showing any physical activity except watching a film and while watching the film, if his heart beat goes up, it will be something in response to what he watches on screen. In a film like ‘Phoonk 2′ the emotion will be only fear,” said Varma. Asked what if a viewer gets a heart attack, he said: “Firstly, the person who would dare enter this contest will have to sign a bond where it will mentioned that we are not responsible for his death. But there will be an ambulance and doctor outside the theatre.” “Phoonk 2″ was unveiled Monday. The contest will continue until it releases commercially April 9. Directed by debutant Milind Gadagkar, “Phoonk 2″ is the sequel of “Phoonk” which was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and the cast remains same. Asked why he didn’t direct the movie this time, Varma said: “‘Phoonk 2′ was Milind’s concept so I asked him to direct the film.”
From PHOONK to RAAZ - The most expensive horror movie ever made
The bumper opening of Phoonk has taken everyone by surprise! 2008 is a special year for horror as a genre, as not only have the people started lapping up horror movies, but it is one of the few years where many talented directors are exploring the genre. Perhaps the most anticipated movie of this genre ' Raaz ' The Mystery Continues ' will highlight the potential of this genre to the hilt. What differentiates Raaz ' The Mystery Continues from other horror flicks is the blockbuster music which is the trademark of the Bhatts. It's quite difficult to have moments which run a chill down your spine and the music that warms up your heart in the same movie. But with the creative genius of Vishesh Films and marketing skills of SONY BMG, Raaz- The Mystery Continues is all set to capture the Indian audiences with the first ever Musical Thriller of this year. If the response to Phoonk is anything to go by, it shows that cine-goers want quality entertainment ' the genre of the movie is quite incidental. In terms of entertainment, they will lap up a quality horror flick as much as a comic caper or an adrenaline pumping action movie ' as long as it entertains and gives them what they came for. Going back in time, there was a phase in the 60s and the 70s when some outstanding horror/thriller movies like Madhumati, Mahal and Woh Kaun Thi enthralled the audiences to become the biggest hits of their times, and classics forever. Incidentally, they seamlessly integrated a strong storyline and lots of spine-chilling moments with some chartbusting music. The 80s and the 90s ' with bad masks and make-up, worse performances and sleaze creeping into them - saw a phase of which relegated horror as a genre to a 'B-grade' genre. Raaz, in 2002, was perhaps the first movie which brought back the magic of the 60's and the 70's horror classics ' making it till date the only Horror/ Thriller Musical Blockbuster of the Decade. Incidentally, the only movie which will break this record in the near future will be the 2nd in series ' Raaz ' The Mystery Continues. Raaz 'The Mystery Continues is also touted as 'the most expensive horror movie ever made'. The creative genius of the Bhatts, some blockbuster music, the marketing skills of SONY BMG and now, the audiences giving a thumbs up to horror as genre ' these are reasons making Raaz ' The Mystery Continues hotter by the day in the trade circuits. Raaz 'The Mystery Continues is a supernatural thriller dealing with the myths and superstitions that are still widely existent in the contemporary Indian society. The film will tend to challenge one's beliefs about the supernatural phenomenon. The film has is being slated as the biggest project ever by the Vishesh Films who have joined hands with SONY BMG. SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT is the number one music company in the world and a global recorded music joint venture with a roster of current artists that includes a broad array of local artists and international superstars, as well as a vast catalog that comprises some of the most important recordings in history. It is the home to over 10,000 artists ranging from Elvis to Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez. In India SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT is the home to Film and Non-Film Superstars.
Ram Gopal Varma talks about PHOONK success
PHOONK has taken a huge opening at the box office. With near 100% collections all over and continuing to go strong show after show, the film has given Ram Gopal Varma yet another success this year after SARKAR RAJ. Ramu talks: "Any filmmaker primarily wants to make a film which people will acclaim. The collections are more the Producers and Distributors concern. But the collections also indicate how many people actually saw the film. Does one feel that the film has served the purpose because a few individuals like the Print & Television critics say it is good or is how many tickets audience bought? Without batting an eyelid even the most award savvy Director would say that it is the audience buying tickets which is important because it will at the end of the day it will be his primary objective to see that as many people as possible watches his work. In the year Satya released 'Godmother' got the National Award and Satya was completely ignored. Godmother ran for 2 weeks and Satya ran for 25 weeks in the same theatre and 10 year later Satya is remembered as a cult-film and the jury members of the National Award committee would have forgotten both Godmother and its Director; and worse they would not have been even bothered to follow that Director's career. I always knew that it is the audiences not the critic's reviews which made Satya work so tremendous. They gave as much or better reviews for Maqbool, Khamosh Pani, etc and we all know their box-office fate. A prominent critic mentioned in his review when Raat released that time, that it is an unintended comedy. Apart from him most reviews too trashed it. 15 years later many critics of present times term it as a cult-classic. That's not because Raat was ahead of times but the critics of today were just audience at that time and hence unbiased. Anyway to cut a long story short, not to undermine 'Mumbai Meri Jaan' or its maker who received raving reviews compared to 'Phoonk', I just would like him to answer sincerely from his heart whether he himself would have preferred glowing reviews and opinions from critics or the collections of 'Phoonk'?"
RGV clears out doubts on Phoonk and Raksha
Ram Gopal Varma known for churning out the best of horror flicks chilled our spines with his recent film 'Phoonk'. Of course, audiences shot up with adrenaline had their statements, 'Ae Ramu Ka Asli Show' and it urged Ram Gopal Varma to think about its sequel. In the interim, the Telugu version of Phoonk titled 'Raksha' had hit the screens last Friday. Witnessing its grand success, Ram Gopal Varma clears out the doubts prevailing amongst many that 'Raksha' is not a dubbed version of Phoonk and it's an original remake starring Jagpathy Babu and Kalyani in lead roles. "Many changes have been made between both the versions and Raksha is more emotional centering on family bonding" said Ramu whose dubbed version of Phoonk in Telugu has been released just in Hyderabad. Well, he is happy that Raksha directed by debutant Vanshi is doing extremely well at the box-office. The Telugu version of Phoonk will be dubbed into Tamil soon and Ram Gopal Varma is on the pursuit of apt title.
