Chiranjeevi’s 150th film to start with prison break scene

The regular shooting of actor Chiranjeevi’s 150th film, which is tentatively titled Kathilantodu, will start from later this month. The first schedule of the film will be shot near Kolkata where the makers have constructed a large prison set under the supervision of National award-winning art director Thota Tharani. The first shot of the film will be canned inside the prison set on which the makers are said to have spent a bomb. The first fifteen minutes of the film, which will be directed by V.V Vinayak, will unfold against the backdrop of prison. The first scene of the film will be a prison break sequence in which Chiranjeevi will con the jail officials and escape. It will be a scene straight out of Tamil blockbuster Kaththi, on which this movie is based. Although the makers have clarified that the film won’t be a frame-to-frame remake, we’ve learnt from trusted sources that lot of mass-appealing scenes will be retained. Chiranjeevi, who is making a comeback with a full-length after eight years, will be seen playing dual roles. Ram Charan is turning producer with this prestigious project, which will have music by Devi Sri Prasad. The makers are yet to rope in the leading lady and antagonist.

Al Qaeda plotting poison attack in US

Terror outfit Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is planning to attack American food supplies with poisonous chemicals, officials said. A source “with knowledge of the situation” said authorities have obtained information that indicated a possible plot by the AQAP to target food at hotels and restaurants in the US, perhaps slipping harmful agents into salad bars or buffets, Fox News reported Tuesday. “We don’t have a specific target or time frame, just the intent,” the source said. Nevertheless, authorities are not convinced that the outfit has the capability to actually carry out such an attack, the source added. CBS News recently reported that the plot may involve the use of ricin or cyanide. Officials from the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Agriculture, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have briefed corporate security officers in the hotel and restaurant industries about the potential threat, CBS News said. The White House’s chief counter-terrorism adviser, John Brennan, has described AQAP as “now the most operationally active node of the Al Qaeda network”. Brennan, however, said they have put “appropriate resources in place” to protect against attacks during the current holiday season. On Christmas Day last year, Nigerian national Umar F. Abdulmutallab tried to detonate his explosives-laden underwear over Detroit. He was allegedly trained and equipped by the AQAP. In October this year, two explosives-laden packages were sent from Yemen to the US, but the packages were intercepted overseas after Saudi intelligence officials shared information about the plot.

Honduras prison fire kills more than 350 inmates

A fire gutted an overcrowded jail in Honduras, killing more than 350 people, officials said Wednesday, as rescue teams found the charred bodies of inmates trapped in their cells by the blaze. Survivors described wrenching scenes of prisoners pleading for help as they were engulfed by choking smoke and flames, some unable to flee because they were still shackled to the bars of their cells in what is the world's worst prison fire in a decade. Those who were able "tried to save themselves by hurling themselves into the shower, sinks" and any other source of water they could find, one survivor said after the inferno in the prison in the central Honduran city of Comayagua. Some inmates escaped by jumping from the prison rooftop, and there were reports that others fled the crowded facility and were on the loose. Those who died were killed mostly by smoke inhalation. "More than 350 dead, it is an approximation. We cannot rule out that it could be a bit higher, but we are checking so we can give an official and precise toll for this tragedy," Security Minister Pompeyo Bonilla told reporters at the prison. The enormity of the disaster led President Porfirio Lobo to suspend Honduras's top prison officials, including the corrections chief, as well as those at the Comayagua penitentiary while an investigation is under way.

"I dont think a prison story like JAIL has been done before" - Madhur Bhandarkar

Percept Picture Company had announced its next hard hitting entertaining film JAIL. This movie will be directed by the master of the realistic cinema Madhur Bhandarkar, with Neil Nitin Mukesh as the protagonist. Madhur is well known for making out of the league sensible movies, which have been extracted from real life events. A press conference was held in Mumbai where all the cast and crew of the movie were present. Mr. Shailendra Singh, Jt. MD Percept Limited says, 'We are proud to announce JAIL with Bhandarkar Entertainment. After a successful run with Page 3, Corporate and Traffic Signal our relation with Madhur Bhandarkar has moved to the next level. With 3 national awards to his credit & accomplishments that quite speak for themselves, Madhur has established himself as a phenomenal film maker.' Jail is a hard hitting yet sensitive tale of an ordinary man Parag Dixit, played by Neil Mukesh, who finds himself inside the four walls of a prison thanks to a series of unfortunate events around him. The whole film is from his point of view and tells the stories of several other inmates of the prison. Some of these are under trials, convicts and also the cops who are in charge of maintaining the order in the prison. Jail gives a ringside view of the world that exists inside the walls of the prison spread across our country. Madhur Bhandarkar told about his new venture that, 'Jail is based on the under-trials and as the name suggests, it is the baseline of my film. I don't think a prison story like Jail has been done so far in Hindi Cinema. I always want to go into genres that are new to be explored. But there were too many practical problems. It'll be in the thriller format. I've been mulling the subject right from the time I made 'Chandni Bar'. Now I've completely revamped the film'. The shooting of the film is going to begin from October this year. The film is scheduled for a 1st May 2009 release. PPC and Madhur Bhandarkar have come a long way together with their successful association with Page-3, Corporate and Traffic Signal. Recently Madhur has won the National Award for the Best Film Director for PPC's Traffic Signal. With this award to his tally, he has struck a hat-trick of National Awards.
