Prince narrates a thief’s race for survival

Adrenaline pumping action, cutting edge technology and with three actresses wooing him, Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi is all set to make a grand comeback as the solo lead in action film “Prince” releasing Friday. Made at a budget of over Rs.40 crore (Rs.400 million) by producer Kumar Taurani, the two-hour-six-minute venture boasts of action sequences exceeding an hour. It is releasing with over 1,000 prints worldwide. Directed by debutant Kooki V. Gulati, “Prince” stars Nandana Sen, Aruna Shields and Neeru Singh as the female lead. Sanjay Kapoor and Dalip Tahil also star in the movie. “‘Prince…’ is my first action film and will showcase me in a new avatar. It’s a story that could be every man’s fantasy and every man’s nightmare,” Vivek had said. Shot across South Africa, Thailand and India, “Prince” narrates the story of a quick-witted thief who wakes up one morning to realise that he has a gunshot on his arm and has absolutely no clue about how he got it because he has lost his memory and that his life is at stake. In his quest to find answers he discovers his name is Prince, he used to work for a man named Sarang and that his girlfriend’s name is Maya. He is being hunted by the secret service of India I Grip, the CBI and the biggest white collared criminals in the world. He realises that he is the most wanted man in the country because only he knows the whereabouts of a heist, which contains a secret that is linked not only to his memory loss but something that also threatens the future of the human race. Prince tries relying on his razor sharp instincts to salvage himself, as the web of deception spins and he gets more entangled, as everyday he meets a new girl who claims to be Maya, he doesn’t know which side of the law he is on and above all he has only six days to live. Vivek lost 12 kilos for the film and had to undergo about five months of rigorous physical training that included skate-boarding, stunt biking, cable training, martial arts, kicks and punches practice. The 33-year-old has also jumped from a 32-storied building to a 28-storied one in the film and that too on a bike. Earlier, titled “Prince of thieves” and “Prince – It’s showtime”, the film has also been in the news for intimate scenes filmed on Vivek with his actresses. Noteworthy is that “Prince” is also releasing simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, apart from Hindi. Despite that April is low on Bollywood big releases thanks to the ongoing Indian Premiere League (IPL), producer Taurani is undeterred. “According to my report, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has not had the same craze this year as it had enjoyed in the last two seasons,” Taurani had told IANS. “Our film is coming in the middle of the series… The IPL craze is at its peak in the first two weeks and during finals so there will be a dull period in between when we will release our film… We are going big time,” he added. Also releasing Friday are romantic comedy “Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai” and Rahul Bose starrer “The Japanese Wife”.

Vivek Oberoi thrilled at good opening of ‘Prince

Actor Vivek Oberoi visited a cineplex here Friday night to do a reality check on the audience reaction to his “Prince: It’s Showtime” and says he was thrilled by the grand opening of the film despite an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match on at the time. “To be honest, I didn’t expect such a public response. I thought it’s a nice film and people will enjoy it. I even thought that IPL is on so it would be a bit difficult, and especially there was a match of Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab. When distributors and exhibitors called me and said that the halls are houseful, I thought I should personally visit and check it,” he told reporters. Vivek said he sneaked into a hall of the Gaitey Galaxy in Bandra 10 minutes to the film’s intermission. People watching the film were unaware of his presence until media camerapersons came inside the hall and distracted the audience. His fans started howling and whistling and took him on their shoulders, cheering his performance in the film. “I didn’t expect it to be this crazy and I am really sorry for the media people who kind of got pushed around. But I really enjoyed it. Especially, when people started whistling…,” he told reporters. Vivek went inside the hall unguarded, without any bouncer or police protection. But before the situation could go beyond control, he escaped from the hall through an emergency exit. The actor also said he was inundated by messages on social networking site Twitter. “I am in Twitter and you get instant feedback there. Some of them are so cute — while watching the film they kept on twitting me… right now you did this… now you did that… it’s mind blowing. It really feels nice when you get so much love,” he said. Vivek, who has done mostly multi-starrer films, said it was producer Kumar Taurani’s confidence that helped him do the film as a solo lead. “Honestly speaking I wasn’t very sure that I would be able to carry this film. No other known names… till now I have done mostly multi-starrer films so that the films get safe opening. But it was him (Taurani) who saw his prince in me and asked me to give my 100 percent. This is the biggest opening of my career by far,” he said. “Prince…” narrates the story of a thief who wakes up one morning to realise that he has lost his memory and his life is at stake. The film also features Nandana Sen, Aruna Shields and Neeru Singh. Vivek, who runs a school in Vrindavan for underprivileged girls who have been abandoned by their families, said he was planning to make a special screening of “Prince…” for them. “I want to do a special screening for the children in Project Devi in Vrindavan. There are 1,200 children there but in Vrindavan there is no 1,200 seat theatre, so I will have to divide them into two shows. My 1,200 small angels are very excited to see the film with me,” he said. Asked if he believes that the blessings of these children have brought him success, he said: “Most definitely. If you do some good work, being true to your heart, the blessings you get for it are incomparable. More important than anything else, that takes you to another level, at least spiritually you are very happy by that.”

After Ace Khan and King Khan, make way for Prince Khan

Race has raced ahead and has turned to be the biggest blockbuster of Bollywood this year. Says a noted trade analyst, "Race has done fabulous business and is expected to garner huge returns for its distributors. It has definitely won the race where the moolah is concerned." He also points out that one actor to have gained exceptionally from the film is Saif. He says, "The industry always spoke of the three Khans when it spoke of star power '€” Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman. Then Hrithik Roshan made it to the premium list and also Akshay Kumar. These five actors called the shots, commanded the best fee, while their films fetched incredible prices. Post RACE, Saif Ali Khan has joined the club." While SRK is famously called the King Khan (King of Bollywood), one actor who can aptly be called Prince Khan (Prince of Bollywood) is Saif Ali Khan. He has now embedded his royal stamp in Bollywood. Saif has always spelt sophistication and style. And now it is his body of work that speaks realms of his diverse acting talent. Whether it was Ek Haseena Thi, Dil Chahta Hai, Omkara, Being Cyrus, Parineeta, Salaam Namaste, Kal Ho Na Ho, Hum Tum, Parineeta or the recently released Race, Saif has punched his mark successfully.

Ticket price not hiked for 'PK'

The “PK” team have decided not to hike the ticket price for the Aamir Khan-starrer, which is coming out Dec 19. "The team feels that the film is universal and everyone should be able to see it," said Aamir's spokesperson in a statement. With the release of a big film, the theatres tend to hike the ticket price. However, the “PK” team was adamant not to effect any change in price. Also starring Anushka Sharma, the Rajkumar Hirani directorial has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Jaaneman fetches record distribution price?

Since last few months, one hot topic of discussion in the distribution circle is the price being fetched by 'Jaaneman', especially in the Mumbai territory. It is a known fact that Mumbai is the hottest and most cash rich territory when it comes to flow of money. Hence there have been speculations galore about the final price at which 'Jaaneman', a film that reunites Sajid Nadiadwala, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, the winning combo of HIT 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi'! The figures quoted have ranged from 4 crore to 8 crores over last few months but as per distribution sources, the final price has been pegged between 7-8 crore, an astronomical amount nevertheless. The distribution house to do this is 'Ashtavinayak Films' that has made a steady progress in the least few years since it entered the distribution circuit as a new player. The market has boomed over last few weeks with first 'Fanaa' and now 'Phir Hera Pheri' garnering record collections. Factors like intense publicity, good quality of films and mushrooming multiplex screens have all played a major role in pushing people out of their homes and enter theatres. Things only look HOT in weeks to come as biggies like 'Krrish', 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna', 'Omkara', 'Jaaneman', 'Dhoom - II' and 'Don' arrive one after another, each carrying a potential to be bumper blockbusters!

Mallika's price for AKS - 15 lakhs per minute!

Mallika Sherawat's coffer has got phenomenally fat ever since she gave her a nod to play a part in Himesh Reshammiya's debut film as a leading man - 'Aap Kaa Surroor'. Apparently she has charged, hold your breath, as much as Rs. 1.5 crore for acting in the film. Well, this is not all because as per sources, she has only 10 minutes presence in the film. All of this means that her asking price for the film is as steep as Rs. 15 lakhs for every minute she appears in the film. Whew! Unbelievable as it may sound but our source confirms that this is indeed true. Also, though it may be unbelievable but it is certainly not surprising for majority of insiders. Readers may remember that for her few minutes appearance in an event hosted by a 5 star hotel on New Years eve, she had charged a whopping amount that had raised many a eyebrows! Mallika's popularity has only soared up post the release and success of 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects' & 'Guru' while her subsequent signing of 'Dasavatharam', a project where she features as a CIA agent opposite Kamal Hassan, has only added as another feather on her cap. Since she has become overtly selective off late and is only green lighting projects that excite her in a big way, 'Aap Kaa Surroor' seems to be THE big project with which she has associated herself, both for the benefit of financial gains as well as those that come due to the fact that she is now one of the most talked about female actress ever since her association with the film was revealed. Directed by debutant director Prashant Chadha, 'Aap Kaa Surroor' is a Vijay Taneja film which has been shot extensively in Germany, Thailand and India. Aiming at a June 29 release, the film stars Hansika Motwani as the leading lady paired opposite Himesh.
