'Filmmaking has changed. Choreography has changed accordingly,' says veteran Choreographer Saroj Khan's son Raju Khan who is basking in the glory of his dance moves in Hrithik Roshan's 'Krrish'. He has choreographed over 1500 songs and has also won a national award for Lagaan. He is starting on his directorial venture Showbiz under Mahesh Bhatt's banner. 'I can't talk about 'Showbiz' right now as we are still at the scripting stage and it won't be proper to say anything about it,' he says. His views about his first love Choreography are rather radical. 'There was a time when along with the lead pair, dozens of chorus dancers gyrated their bellies needlessly. Songs then were meant as a breather where people went out and smoked. Today, the duration of a film has been curtailed. Mostly songs that add to the story are kept so the choreography has to be more meaningful and it has to take the story forward. I think the ego should go out of a dancer to make the song look more plausible. He doesn't have any other option if he wants to be around for long,' he says. And what's his opinion on her mother who is instrumental in the success of Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi? 'I sincerely feel she is the ultimate Choreographer. She actually knows what it means to make musical steps according to her own liking.' The new generation of Choreographers is ruling the roost right now. They are young, hip and prone to fast-success. Maybe they should take a cue from Raju Khan's long-n-successful career and aspire for a longer career rather than doing too many things simultaneously.
Raju Sundaram turns to direction
Several choreographers are turning towards direction and achieving successes as well. Lawrence who made his debut with Mass earned a good name as director and then he proved himself not only as director but also as an artiste with 'Style'. Now his latest flick 'Muni' in his direction is ready for release. Again he is getting ready to direct Nagarjuna for 'Don'. Likewise, Prabhudeva, who is well-known among the audiences as India Michael Jackson, turned a director and his debut film 'Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana' was a sensational hit. His next film 'Pournami' also won laurels and he earned the name as a poetic director with that film. Again 'Pokkiri' in Tamil under his direction was also a massive hit. Presently, he is getting ready to direct Mega Star Chiranjeevi for 'Shankar Dada Zindabad'. Amma Rajasekhar turned a big director with 'Ranam', while Suchitra Chandrabose proved a good director with 'Pallakilo Pellikuturu'. Now, noted choreographer Raju Sundaram is going to turn a director. He prepared a good story and narrated it to two heroes. Of them, one top hero had evinced interest in the subject and gave his nod to do the film from next May. Now, it is reliably learnt Raju Sundaram had started exercises on developing the subject.
'Raju Bhai' shooting in progress at Sarathi
The shooting of 'Raju Bhai' directed by Suryakiron and produced by Dr M Mohanbabu on the banner of Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures, with Manoj, of 'Donga-Dongadi'-fame and son of Mohanbabu as hero, and Sheela of 'Sitakokachiluka'-fame as heroine, is progressing well at Sarathi Studios in Hyderabad on a fast pace. Presently some key scenes are being shot there. It is well aware that a song was choreographed on noted comedian Sunil for this film. The producer is making efforts to complete all the formalities soon and release the film as a summer gift.
'Raju Bhai' in post-production works
Dr M Mohanbabu had portrayed different characters in over 500 films and earned the name of a versatile artiste. At the same time, he had produced over 46 films on the banner of 'Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures'. He is now busy producing his Production No. 47 in which his second son Manchu Manojkumar, who played hero in films like 'Donga Dongadi' and 'Sri', is playing the title role. Sheela is playing the female lead while the film is being directed by Surya Kiron who had earlier directed Satyam of Sumanth. The film, which is the remake of a Tamil movie, had started its post-production works recently and dubbing work is in progress at Prasad Labs in Hyderabad. The producer is planning to bring out the film as a summer gift. It is reliably learnt that 'Raju Bhai' is the title under consideration.
'Raju Bhai' to be released on Dasari's birthday
The shooting of 'Raju Bhai' directed by Suryakiron, presented by Smt Nirmala, and produced by Padma Shree Dr M Mohanbabu on the banner of Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures with Manchu Manojkumar and Sheela in the lead was successfully completed recently. The audio is most likely to be launched during this week. Yuvan Shankar Raja gave melodious tunes for the flick. It is the remake of a successful Tamil film 'Chittam Pesaradu'. However, there will be some changes to the basic story of the original and 30 per cent of the film was changed to suit the nativity. Though Manoj made his debut into films sometime ago, he did not get the adequate break in films. However, Manoj performed in this film as if it is his debut venture. The heroine too had a good scope to perform and will not remain as a glamour doll who shakes legs with the hero in a couple of songs. Ganesh Acharya, a famous choreographer from Bollywood is working for the movie. The speciality is that each song would run with a special concept. First an introductory song, second ' when the hero falls in love' in this pattern. There is a special song choreographed on Sunil. Producer Mohanbabu says, 'Presently the film is busy in re-recording and dubbing. After completing all the post-production formalities, we are planning to release the film on the birthday of my mentor Dasari Narayana Rao on May 4.'
'Raju Bhai' readies for release on May 11
Shooting of 'Raju Bhai' directed by Surya Kiron and produced Padma Sri Dr M Mohanbabu on the banner of Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures with his second son Manojkumar as hero and Sheela as heroine is nearing completion. This is the 47th film on the banner. Producer Mohanbabu says, 'We are remaking a successful Tamil film 'Chittam Pesaradu' as 'Raju Bhai'. However, we made some 30 per cent changes to the original to suit the nativity. Manoj personally did some risky shots on his own, without depending on dupes. Though everyone claims that their film would be a definite hit, they would have some doubt over the success of the film in their minds. But I am very confident that the film would be a definite super hit, because there is a very good story. There are no second thoughts about its failure. We are planning to release the film on May 11 after completing all the formalities.'
