Actor Shahid Kapoor, whose "Shaandaar" turned out to be a box office debacle, has started shooting for “Rangoon” with his "Haider" director Vishal Bhardwaj. The actor, who has been giving hints about his look in the upcoming project with different styles of beards, started shooting for the film on Thursday, said a source close to the actor. However, the filming location has not been revealed. For the film, Shahid went all the way and opted for a beard, and recently shared his new look with a slick moustache on Twitter. “Rangoon” is a love story based in the 1940s, against the backdrop of World War II. It also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut. Bhardwaj has earlier delivered hit films like “Kaminey” and “Haider” with Shahid, and perhaps “Rangoon” will recreate the magic at the box office. Meanwhile, Shahid's last box office outing with “Shaandaar” turned out to be a damp squib.
Viacom18 Motion Pictures to co-produce 'Rangoon'
Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming directorial “Rangoon” will now be co-produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures along with Sajid Nadiadwala and himself. The period romance-drama film, set in the 1940s, will star actors Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut. With the music by Bhardwaj, the lyrics of the film's songs have been penned by Gulzar. “Our endeavour at Viacom18 Motion Pictures has been to redefine a mainstream Hindi film. In that quest, we have always produced films that marry great content with a wide commercially appeal. "Our unique collaboration with Vishal and Sajid who are filmmakers of great pedigree in their own space reflects that approach,” Viacom18 Motion Pictures chief operating officer Ajit Andhare said in a statement. Bhardwaj says that amalgamating a story with experts from the industry is like a dream come true for him. “I am delighted that a project so close to my heart has not only started shaping up well, but will be portrayed as an epic story of love and drama in a never seen before avatar,” he said. “Rangoon” is set to release in October.
Post 'Shaandaar', it's 'Rangoon' time for Shahid
Shahid Kapoor is clearly not bogged down by the debacle of “Shaandaar” at the box office as he says there are “miles to go before I sleep”. Moving on, the actor is now focusing on his next project “Rangoon”. “Time to prep for #Rangoon. Miles to go before I sleep. Keep it real you all. And believe. Because...,” Shahid tweeted on Thursday. The actor also shared a photograph in which he is seen with a beard. He seems to be brooding while looking outside his car's window. To be helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, “Rangoon” is a love story based in the 1940s, against the backdrop of World War II. It also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut, and is scheduled to take off in early 2016. Meanwhile, the much anticipated film “Shaandaar”, which marked Shahid's first film after his marriage, bombed at the box office and also failed to impress critics as they described the movie as slow paced or avant-garde gone awry. Treated like a fantasy film with a backdrop of an ostentatious Indian wedding, Vikas Bahl's "Shaandaar" also features Alia Bhatt, Sanah Kapoor, Sushma Seth and Pankaj Kapur among others. It was released on October 22.
